The Lord Of Blood Hill

Chapter 644: We’re Doing This for His Own Good!

Chapter 644: We’re Doing This for His Own Good!

The next day, Pacino looks haggard. The steward of the residence asks with concern, "My lord, did you not sleep well last night?"

Pacino forces out a smile. "It was all right. I just was not used to the pillow."

The steward hurriedly says, "Please forgive me, my lord. I will replace it for you at once."

All day, Pacino is distracted.

Even his youngest son notices and cannot help asking, "Father? What is wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Can we still go see the great lion statue today? And Silver Peak Square too. I have not been there yet."

Only after his son asks twice does Pacino come back to himself.

But he does not answer the child's question directly. Instead, he lowers his head and thinks about something.

After a while, Pacino frowns and asks, "Son, I have a problem right now."

"I know something that may be harmful to my friend."

"If I tell him, we may be in danger."

"Should I pretend I know nothing, or should I risk warning him?"

His youngest son tilts his head. "Father, you already said he is your friend. Are you not close? Why would you not tell him?"

Pacino crouches down and holds his son's shoulders. "Because I am afraid. I am afraid of danger."

His youngest son clenches his fist to cheer him on. "Father, you are a warrior. You are our hero. You will not be afraid."

Pacino is silent for a long time. Then he stands and shields his son from the glaring sunlight. "Good. I have been useless my whole life. It is time I act like a hero for once."

Watching his youngest son happily run to fetch his wooden sword, the smile on Pacino's lips slowly turns bitter.

Afterward, he forces himself to calm down.

If he were Henwell, what would he do now?

After thinking for a long time, Pacino raises a hand and rubs his cheeks hard, relaxing the muscles on his face and revealing a gentle smile.

"Prepare the carriage. I am taking the young master sightseeing today."

Over the next two days, Pacino takes his son all around Silver Peak City, as if he wants to enjoy the city to the fullest.

On the third day, Pacino leaves Silver Peak City with his son, while his caravan carries many goods.

Inside the carriage, Pacino carefully studies the map Henwell gave him, trying to find the best route.

Pacino stays highly alert throughout the journey, but the thing he worries about never happens.

Over the next few days, nothing unusual happens.

Only when the caravan enters the territory of the Grand Duke of the Eastern Territory does Pacino finally breathe a sigh of relief.

There have been no accidents along the way. Did he guess wrong?

He sends some gifts to Duke Marcus, but Pacino does not meet the duke.

This makes Pacino anxious, but then he thinks that his concern is only a guess and that he has no real evidence.

Warning Henwell's father-in-law now would clearly be rash.

So Pacino does not ask to meet Duke Marcus again. After resting for two days, he heads in the direction of Iris City.

At this time, Pacino's mood has relaxed a great deal. But just as he is about to leave the Eastern Territory, a group of people catches up from behind.

Pacino breaks into nervous sweat, clutches the longsword Henwell gave him, and prepares to face unknown danger.

But as the cavalry approaches, Pacino relaxes again.

That is the Mistflower war crest of the Grand Duke of the Eastern Territory. These are Marcus's personal guards.

The leading knight comes before the carriage and bows. "My lord baron, His Grace has just returned. When he heard that you had left, he specially sent us to bring you back."

"You are Young Master Spencer's friend. If we simply let you leave like this, it would be a failure of hospitality from the MacLeod family."

Pacino returns the greeting with a smile. "Thank His Grace for his concern, but I have business now and must go to Peace Haven to inform Henwell."

"So I must hurry on my way. When I return, I will certainly visit His Grace."

"I expect Lady Melissa will also have letters for me to bring back."

The cavalry captain says, "My lord baron, you should come back with us. If there is urgent news, you can tell His Grace as well. Eastern Mist City has extraordinary communication, after all."

"If the matter is truly urgent, His Grace can directly notify the lord of Blood Hill, saving you the hardship of travel."

Pacino freezes for a moment, then nods. "That is fine. Then I will trouble His Grace."

"Right. I need to send Henwell a bottle of fine wine. I will have a subordinate ride ahead and deliver it first."

The cavalry captain suddenly raises a hand to stop him. "No."

Pacino asks in confusion, "Why?"

After a long pause, the cavalry captain forces out a reason. "That bottle of wine is extremely expensive. If it is accidentally damaged on the road, would that not be a great pity?"

"His Grace will soon go south to Peace Haven to visit the eldest young lady. When the time comes, taking the wine along with you, my lord baron, will be safer."

Pacino frowns. "How do you know that bottle of wine is extremely expensive?"

"Since it was given by His Majesty Amir, it must be valuable..."

Pacino raises a hand and cuts him off. "No. How do you know that bottle of wine was given by His Majesty to Henwell? His Grace would not tell you even such a small thing, would he?"

The knight captain is silent for a moment. "My lord baron, trust me. We bear no ill will."

"You are Henwell's friend and also the young master's friend. We will not make things difficult for you."

"This is all for your own good. Likewise, we bear no ill will toward Lord Henwell. After all, he is the husband of our eldest young lady."

Pacino's hand grips his sword hilt. "What if I insist on leaving? Are you prepared to attack?"

"If what you say is true, and you really treat me as your young master's friend, then let my son go."

"I will not surrender. I must go to Peace Haven."

Seeing Pacino prepare for battle, all the caravan guards become alert.

These dozens of guards can be considered capable fighters. Pacino specifically arranged for them to train in Peace Haven.

Now, facing more than a hundred elite cavalry, the guards know they have no chance of victory, but none of them intends to retreat.

The cavalry captain frowns and thinks for a while. "My lord baron, you misunderstand. We have no intention of attacking you. If you insist on leaving, we will not forcibly stop you."

"It is only that the road ahead is difficult, and friend and foe are unclear right now. I personally admire your courage, my lord baron."

"But I still hope you will consider it again. We truly bear no ill will toward you, and you should believe we bear no ill will toward the lord of Blood Hill either."

Pacino says, "I only ask one thing. No matter what you are planning, no matter whether you think it is for Henwell's good, does Henwell know about it?"

The cavalry captain answers with silence.

Pacino laughs softly. "Heh. If you do not tell Henwell, how do you know it is for Henwell's good?"

"If Henwell truly wanted that result, you would certainly not hide it from him."

"Since Henwell does not want it, he must have his reasons. What you are doing is not for his good."

The cavalry captain bows. "Take care, my lord baron. If there is danger, please return to the Eastern Territory immediately."

After the Eastern Territory cavalry leaves, Pacino collapses weakly back into the carriage.

He does not know exactly what is happening, but he now understands that someone in the kingdom wants to do something harmful to Henwell, and all of Henwell's staunch allies have been sent away.

Almost the entire kingdom is hiding this matter from Henwell, including the Grand Duke of the Eastern Territory.

Looking at the route on the map, Pacino gives a bitter laugh. "Heh. What is this supposed to be? A reverse Path of Honor?"
