Chapter 2756 - 2757: Sinking into the Sea
Chapter 2756 - 2757: Sinking into the Sea
Princess Ya’an finally boarded the official ship. Empress Yazi came to see her off. Although she looked reluctant, her eyes were much brighter, and she looked much better overall.
"This is something Shangzi asked me to give you." Empress Yazi handed Bai Ruozhu a rather large box.
Bai Ruozhu had just helped Empress Shangzi drive out the poisonous insect the day before and wondered why she hadn’t given it then.
Empress Yazi smiled, "She was too upset at the time and forgot. She originally wanted to come and deliver it personally today, but her body is too weak to bear the sea breeze at the Pier."
Bai Ruozhu nodded, "Let her rest well. Let the past be the past."
Once on the ship, she opened the brocade box and found inside a Pearl Shawl, adorned with many Sea Pearls, each round and full, exuding a soft pink light.
This Pearl Shawl was not cheap and had some years on it, yet it was well-preserved.
"This is too precious," Bai Ruozhu guessed that this Pearl Shawl must hold extraordinary significance for Empress Shangzi.
Jiang Yichun helped her close the box, "Keep it, it’s her token of affection. At worst, when Princess Ya’an returns to Fusang, you can ask her to bring a grand gift for Empress Shangzi."
Bai Ruozhu nodded, "That would be good."
The helmsman on the boat signaled with flags, and soon three ships set sail one after another. A large crowd waved farewell from the shore, and Bai Ruozhu and her companions waved back from the deck, feeling a touch of emotion.
Bai Ruozhu had seasickness medicine distributed. After taking it, no one showed symptoms, but the Prince of Fusang’s guard was very seasick.
"Didn’t take the medicine?" Bai Ruozhu went to check upon hearing the news.
The guard looked pale, "I used to fish when I was young, so I thought I wouldn’t get seasick."
Bai Ruozhu smiled wryly, "Take it quickly and rest a bit."
With a flushed face, he said, "I did take it a moment ago, but I threw up soon after, and I’m not sure how much stayed down."
"Then take another pill." Bai Ruozhu handed him another pill.
Qiu Zhi muttered not far away, "Ten taels of silver, just wasted like that."
Shanhu went to tweak his ear, "Stop being a money freak, go help Lord Jiang."
"Yes, yes."
Shanhu, now free from the shackles of Yuchen Palace, found sitting on the boat challenging due to her pregnancy. Luckily, her health had always been good, and with Bai Ruozhu’s medical adjustments, it wasn’t too strenuous.
Yuchenzi and Xuchenzi hadn’t joined them, saying they planned to find their family and visit Zhongyuan later.
Shanhu was reluctant to part with her masters, but she knew children couldn’t be without their fathers.
However, a tricky problem lay ahead—Mount Longhu’s sect rules. The two were avoiding the topic, neither willing to bring it up first.
Take each step as it comes.
The prince’s guard felt better after taking the seasickness medication and sought Bai Ruozhu to express his gratitude. Bai Ruozhu told him it was nothing and to focus on protecting the prince.
...
In the ship cabin, Sibao was sulkily tearing paper. If the torn pieces were pieced together, they would surely form an ink-drawn ugly figure with a big black face drawn over it.
"Stupid Gong Feng, dead Gong Feng, didn’t even come to say goodbye, so outrageous!" Sibao grumbled.
After tearing the paper, she sulkily lay on the bed, soon overwhelmed with grievance, and tears started falling.
In Tangfen Restaurant, Gong Feng had broken his third plate. The apprentice assisting beside him asked worriedly, "Chef, are you okay?"
Gong Feng stopped his actions, staring blankly.
Suddenly, he set down the spatula in his hand and walked briskly outside.
"I have to leave for a few days, you all handle the kitchen." he said.
"Chef!" the apprentice anxiously chased after him, but he was already out of sight.
Gong Feng hurried to the Pier, but the ship had already departed, and even the farewell crowd had left. He sighed slowly, turned around, thinking he must be insane.
"Young man, need a boat? I can ferry you." an old voice suddenly spoke up.
Gong Feng stopped, "No, no need."
Just as the old man was about to row his boat away, Gong Feng suddenly leapt lightly onto the small boat.
"Old man, could you lend me the boat for a few days? Here’s some silver for you to rest at home for a few days, okay?" he said quickly.
"You don’t need me to row? You can do it yourself?" the old man asked apprehensively.
"I can, please." he handed over the silver.
The old man pushed the silver back, "This is too much, enough to buy two of my little broken boats."
"Then consider it bought, use the silver for your old age." Gong Feng said.
"Alright, alright, thank you." the old man said happily.
Once the old man was ashore, intending to remind him a few more times, he turned around, and Gong Feng and the boat were nowhere to be seen. He rubbed his eyes; had he not been dreaming? Could it be an Immortal who saw his poor living conditions and specially came to help him?
The old man knelt and kowtowed three times before standing up and leaving.
Gong Feng used a demonic method to accelerate and was already headed for the open sea. How could a small fishing boat compare in speed to the Harmony? Thus, he had to use demonic power to catch up.
Two days later, Gong Feng finally saw the three large ships, the largest being the one Bai Ruozhu and the others were on, the Harmony.
He was utterly exhausted, his demon power greatly depleted, yet to recover.
"Wait a minute! I am Gong Feng!" he shouted toward the Harmony.
But his voice couldn’t reach the ship from such a distance, especially with the wind and waves at sea.
Seeing his distance from the Harmony growing ever wider, Gong Feng fell helplessly onto the small boat, agony written on his face.
Couldn’t catch up, was it meant to be missed just like this?
A wave hit, causing the small fishing boat to sway violently, and he, unable to balance himself, fell into the water.
"Isn’t that a fishing boat over there?" Teng Liu, with sharp eyes, asked the sailor beside him.
"It really seems to be."
Teng Liu quickly reported to Bai Ruozhu, who didn’t hesitate, "Take a few people and send a small boat to check it out. If it’s a fisherman, help save them if you can."
"Yes, madam."
Teng Liu acted quickly, gathering some strong swimmers and sending out a small boat.
The small fishing boat was empty, nobody in sight.
"Could the person have drowned already?" someone asked.
Teng Liu noticed a scrap of fabric on the boat’s railing, "Two people stay with the boat while the rest dive with me to see, there might be someone recently fallen overboard."
"Okay."
If they were still on the officer’s ship, they wouldn’t normally meddle in such affairs. The officers above didn’t allow them to, but now they served different masters. Bai Ruozhu liked to rescue people, and Jiang Yichun, despite his cold demeanor, had a warm heart. The couple’s influence made their followers compassionate, no longer indifferent.
Teng Liu and his team dove into the sea, soon finding someone floating in the water, unconscious.
They quickly rescued the person and realized it was Gong Feng.
"It’s one of our own. Luckily we came over; let’s hurry and get him back to the ship for the madam to treat him." Teng Liu was greatly surprised but also a bit relieved, thankful they intervened.
