As they stepped out of the passage, a cool night breeze, scented with the fragrance of earth and grass, blew upon them, instantly dispelling the lingering gloom and fatigue. Lei Tao reached to his waist and pulled out his worn but polished flashlight. With a snap, a blinding beam of light instantly ripped through the darkness, illuminating a small area around him. He held the flashlight high, walking slowly and carefully, examining every shadow.

Just then, a faint sound emanated from the nearby forest, as if someone was scurrying through the brush. Lei Tao reacted with remarkable speed, instantly raising his rifle and signaling everyone to take cover. Like well-trained soldiers, they quickly hid behind nearby boulders and trees, daring not to breathe. In the silent night, only the heavy breathing of the crowd stood out.

The flashlights were fixed on the patch of grass from which the noise had come, and everyone's heart was in their throat. Everyone followed closely behind Lei Tao, walking along the rugged path through the valley, one foot deep, one foot shallow.
