Chapter 129: Saving the Gray Wolf
Chapter 129: Saving the Gray Wolf
After successfully evacuating the edge of the Japanese camp, Lei Tao hurried on according to his pre-arranged plan, desperate to reunite with the guerrillas as soon as possible. While on his way, he spotted a gray wolf lying at the foot of a roadside tree. Instinctively, Lei Tao drew his pistol from his waistband and expertly aimed it at the wolf. However, after a brief standoff, he realized the wolf was barely breathing and showed no intent to attack. He slowly sheathed his pistol, his guard slightly lowered. Cautiously, he approached the wolf, and upon closer inspection, he discovered its right hind leg was injured. Sharp splinters had lodged in the wound, and the surrounding fur was stained with blood.
Lei Tao's emotions instantly became complicated. After a moment of internal struggle, he decided to help. The image of the wolf attacking the Japanese soldiers resurfaced in his mind, and he wondered if this was a form of fate and reward. Just as Lei Tao bent slightly and reached out to help the wolf remove the splinter, the wolf, as if sensing danger, suddenly woke up. Its eyes widened with alarm and anger, and a deep, menacing growl erupted from its throat, attempting to frighten the approaching human away. It struggled to stand, its injured hind legs paralyzing its power, but it maintained a fierce presence, ears pressed back, teeth bared, and a continuous "woooo" of warning wails.
Seeing this, Lei Tao hurriedly stopped and whispered, "Don't be afraid, I'm here to help you." But the gray wolf didn't understand and still maintained a defensive posture. Lei Tao had no choice but to take out a piece of lamb leg he had prepared from the Bagua Gyro space and gently threw it not far away from the gray wolf. The gray wolf was stunned at first, then sniffed the lamb leg warily, and the hostility in his eyes eased a little. Lei Tao took the opportunity to approach again, moving more slowly and gently. As he approached, he soothed in a gentle tone: "I won't hurt you, I just want to heal your leg."
As Lei Tao approached the wolf's injured leg, he carefully examined the area surrounding the wound. He then retrieved a pair of small tweezers and disinfectant from his space. He gently grasped the wolf's leg, moving as gently as possible to avoid causing it to resist due to the intense pain. The wolf, though somewhat uneasy, perhaps sensing Lei Tao's intentions, trembled slightly and refrained from further aggressive growls. Lei Tao carefully parted the hair around the wound with the tweezers before slowly dripping disinfectant onto the wound. The moment the disinfectant touched the wound, the wolf flinched. Lei Tao quickly soothed, "Bear with it, it'll be fine soon." Then, with complete concentration, he grasped the end of the splinter with the tweezers and slowly extracted it from the wound. With each splinter removed, he gently applied pressure with clean gauze to stop the bleeding. With the last splinter removed, Lei Tao breathed a sigh of relief. He then applied some anti-inflammatory ointment to the wolf's wound and carefully bandaged it with gauze.
The gray wolf seemed to understand Lei Tao's kindness. The hostility in its eyes had completely disappeared, replaced by a gentleness and gratitude. It gently wagged its tail and let out a low "wooo" sound from its throat, as if expressing its gratitude to Lei Tao. Lei Tao looked at the gray wolf, whose wounds had been bandaged, and a relieved smile appeared on his face. He stood up and continued on his journey to find the guerrillas. The gray wolf watched him go away until his figure disappeared at the end of the road.
