Chapter 102 Ghostly Encounters
Chapter 102 Ghostly Encounters
Lin Feng then turned to the orange cat and said seriously:
"Brother Ju, Instructor Su called and said the fog is strange tonight, and it's easy to get lost in a 'ghost wall' (a type of illusion). Do you have a way to break it?"
"Meow~" came the orange cat's thought, brimming with arrogance, "Being trapped in a maze? A child's play!"
"With this guy here, he can scratch through any wall! Besides, the fog is actually better; it'll provide cover, which is actually a good thing for us!"
Its nonchalant attitude was like a reassurance, putting Lin Feng's mind at ease.
"Then let's get ready to go."
Lin Feng carefully examined the peach wood stick, then picked up his backpack, unzipped it, and gestured to the orange cat.
The orange cat stood up, lazily stretched, and then strolled over at a leisurely pace, crawling into the bag and settling into a comfortable, cross-legged position.
Lin Feng carefully put his backpack on.
Wasim stretched his thick neck, making a few crisp "crack" sounds, then tucked the peach wood stick into his pocket, nodded to Lin Feng, and opened the dormitory door first.
Outside the door, the corridor lights were dimmed and eerily blurred by the fog pouring in from outside.
Sato Ichiro followed them to the door and whispered a warning, "You two, be careful!"
Wasim stopped, turned around, and patted Sato's slightly thin shoulder hard with his large hand.
Take care, and see you later.
Lin Feng nodded to Sato: "Until we meet again."
The two stopped and walked along the dimly lit corridor shrouded in thick fog toward the stairwell.
When they went down to the first floor, the light was on in the room of the dormitory supervisor, Uncle Wang. He was sitting by the window, seemingly waiting for them.
"Where are you two going so late?" Uncle Wang raised his eyelids, his cloudy eyes filled with scrutiny and coldness.
Lin Feng's mind raced, and he was about to make up an excuse that he had "acute gastroenteritis and needed to go to the school hospital" when, before he could even speak, the zipper on his backpack was suddenly ripped open from the inside.
The orange head popped out.
The orange cat's amber pupils narrowed to a thin line in the dim light, precisely locking onto the face of dormitory supervisor Uncle Wang.
It made no sound, but just stared at Uncle Wang silently, with a hint of contempt and warning.
In an instant, Wang Bo felt as if he had been pricked by an invisible ice needle, and his body trembled visibly.
The scrutinizing expression on his face instantly crumbled, replaced by a look of fear and confusion.
Uncle Wang rubbed his eyes hard and looked away.
"Strange...strange..." Uncle Wang muttered to himself, his voice tinged with panic, "How...how come I'm seeing hallucinations again...this awful weather..."
He muttered something as if trying to comfort himself, waved his hand, and stopped looking at Lin Feng and the others.
Lin Feng and Wasim exchanged a glance, both seeing a hint of surprise and understanding in each other's eyes.
It was also the first time I experienced the joy of "borrowing the tiger's power"!
Without another word, the two quickly passed through the dormitory building and plunged into the thick fog outside, where it was so dense that one couldn't see their own hand in front of their face and it seemed to swallow everything.
………………
Studio:
"Holy crap! The orange cat emperor killed the dorm supervisor with just one look! So domineering!"
"666666! That orange cat is tough, doesn't talk much!"
"Dormitory Supervisor: What the hell did I just see? A cat head – maximum intimidation!"
"Hahaha, that's hilarious! The old man was completely stumped!"
"Orange cat: Look me in the eye, you little brat!"
"We've got it! With the orange cat around, I feel like we can easily take over the back mountain!"
"Let's go! Let's go! High-energy warning ahead! Brothers, protect yourselves and start spamming the chat!"
........................
Meanwhile, in the girls' dormitory building.
Evelyn and Anna, carrying backpacks containing a red dragon and a peachwood stick, were stopped by the dormitory supervisor on duty as soon as they reached the lobby on the first floor.
The middle-aged woman was overweight, and her face looked particularly gloomy in the dim light, blocking the doorway like a wall.
"Where are you two girls going so late?!"
Evelyn said casually, "Auntie, we want to go for a run on the playground, a night run, to get some exercise."
"Running?" The middle-aged woman narrowed her cloudy eyes, her lips turning down in a smirk. "No way! Go back to sleep! That's the rule!"
As she spoke with a firm tone, a faint black aura began to emanate from her body, and the surrounding temperature seemed to drop several degrees.
Anna felt the chill and instinctively shrank behind Evelyn.
Evelyn's smile remained unchanged, but her eyes sharpened for a moment as she quickly realized that forcing her way in was not a wise move.
"Okay, okay, Auntie, don't be angry, we'll go back now."
Evelyn pulled Anna along and turned to walk upstairs, behaving very "obediently".
But they didn't actually go back to their dorm.
The two quickly slipped into the third floor, where there was a small storage room for cleaning tools.
Evelyn deftly took a handmade device wrapped with transparent plastic tubing and tape from her backpack—
The cavity clearly shows layers of pale yellow crystals and dark red powder filling the space.
This is a simple smoke generator that she made during the day by sneaking into the school's chemistry lab using readily available materials.
"Potassium nitrate was mixed with sucrose, and a little iron oxide was added for coloring."
She explained briefly, while aligning the magnesium strip fuse on top of the device with the scraper, "and covering my mouth and nose."
As soon as she finished speaking, she slammed the fuse on and simultaneously used her other hand to trigger the fire alarm on the wall!
"Waaaaah—waaaah—!"
The piercing alarm instantly resounded throughout the entire dormitory building!
As the alarm sounded, a thick plume of smoke billowed from the storage room.
"Fire?! What happened?!" A terrified shout came from downstairs, followed by the heavy, hurried footsteps of the middle-aged woman running up the stairs—she had to check the situation; it was her duty.
Just as the older woman turned into the third floor, Evelyn and Anna, like two nimble cats, darted out from their hiding corner, rushed down the stairs, rushed out of the dormitory building, and plunged into the thick, impenetrable fog outside.
As soon as they entered the thick fog, the two immediately sensed that something was wrong.
This fog doesn't just obscure vision; it seems to have a life of its own, damp, cold, and sticky, clinging to the skin with a malicious, writhing sensation.
The surroundings were eerily quiet; even the alarm that had just sounded in the dormitory building seemed to have been shut out.
"According to my memory, if we go through this pomegranate orchard, we'll see the path leading to the cafeteria," Evelyn said softly, trying to remain calm.
The two walked quickly, their shoes making a soft rustling sound as they rubbed against the pebbles on the ground.
However, after walking for about five minutes, when they should have already passed through the pomegranate garden, they were surprised to find that the familiar building entrance with the "Girls' Dormitory" sign was back in front of them!
"How is that possible?" Anna's voice trembled slightly. "We were definitely walking in the opposite direction of the dormitory!"
"It's a maze!" Evelyn calmly assessed, but her clenched palms were sweating. "There's something wrong with this fog!"
