Chapter 24 Lu Mingfei
Chapter 24 Lu Mingfei
Today, Shilan Secondary School welcomed a distinguished guest, an elegant old gentleman with silver hair and a British style. He was incredibly handsome, eliciting screams from the girls in the school.
The elderly gentleman was from Kassel College in Illinois, USA, and was the college's principal. He had come specifically to recruit two outstanding students.
Su An, Class 6, Grade 12.
Chu Zihang, Class 6, Grade 12.
When Angers stepped into the office, the principal and other school leaders thought he was a fraud, but when Angers showed them the picturesque scenes of Kassel College, they were completely convinced.
They had no choice but to believe that every advantage of Kassel was verifiable, and exquisite pictures were compiled into a book, which made the leaders more and more alarmed as they flipped through it.
Whether it's events and competitions or elite alumni from all walks of life, Kassel College excels in every aspect. Most importantly, Angers came specifically for this occasion and brought generous scholarships.
Handsome and beautiful boys and girls, dressed in dark green school uniforms, unleash their youth in the paradise called Kassel College, where the best students can receive full scholarships of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The principal was overwhelmed with happiness. Two full scholarships worth hundreds of thousands of dollars! The students at Shilan High School were so outstanding that a foreigner had come all the way from afar with a huge sum of money to recruit them!
The principal was beaming with excitement. The students under his tutelage had achieved such great results, and he, as the principal, couldn't help but feel proud. He puffed out his chest with a radiant smile.
However, out of caution, the principal still asked, "Chu Zihang's grades are indeed excellent, but Su An has consistently ranked last in English in our grade. Is your school's admissions office really sure they haven't made a mistake?"
"Of course not, how could we mistake a hero? Such a noble student is like a diamond in the sand, impossible to overlook."
"We don't quite understand..." The school leaders became more and more puzzled as they listened, and exchanged glances.
"We heard about Su An's heroic deeds on the other side of the ocean and were deeply moved by his spirit, so we rushed over without stopping."
"It's all for the sake of admitting this genius to our University of Kassel; we at the University of Kassel need him!"
The principal was at a loss for words. Would foreigners on the other side of the ocean really read news about acts of bravery in Binhai City?
Of course not, but faced with the generous scholarship, the principal forced a smile. He couldn't refuse the fact that "Shilan High School has produced outstanding students," especially two of them.
Amidst the pleasant atmosphere, the leaders of Shilan Middle School quickly accepted the departure of Su An and Chu Zihang, and were pleased with the outcome.
Of course, the principal has a small suggestion.
"Could we have them give a speech, to share their thoughts before saying goodbye?"
Angers smiled wryly, "The prerequisite is that we can find Su An. I don't know where he went either."
...........
Su An walked through the gate of the literary society.
The lush green ivy mingled with the sunlight, and the bookshelves were filled with classic works of all ages. It was a cozy activity room, but the place, which should have been bustling with activity, was now empty except for a boy.
The boy had chestnut-colored black hair, and looked listless like a dried cucumber. His head bobbed up and down, nodding off intermittently. He was holding Marguerite Duras's Lover, but upside down.
"Lu Mingfei".
Su An woke up Lu Mingfei, who wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth and looked surprised and delighted when he saw Su An.
"Su An, you're not dead! Cough cough, I mean, it's so good that you managed to get away unscathed after doing something heroic! The media won't tell you the specific details, they just call you a hero. To be called a hero, I thought you were going to die. If you had died, we wouldn't be able to play StarCraft anymore."
Lu Mingfei chattered on and on, while covering up the fact that he was turning the book "The Lover" upside down. He fawned over Su An, making her tea and taking out snacks from the drawer. His movements were smooth and efficient, as if he had done a lot of work.
"Why are you the only one left in the literary club?"
Lu Mingfei's face darkened, and he poured out the whole story like beans.
It turns out that Shilan Middle School requires club activities to be completed on time. In order to avoid the supervising teacher making a surprise visit, the members of the Literature Club often draw lots to decide which unlucky person will stay in the activity room. Their main duty is to keep watch, which is similar to the job of the mountain patrolling boy in Journey to the West.
But for some reason, Lu Mingfei always seems to have incredible luck and manages to get a short-term contract, making him the unlucky one who has to stay.
"Where are the others? Where did they go?"
"Go... Zhao Menghua suggested eating hot pot, and Chen Wenwen and the others agreed. Now they should be gathered around a copper pot to cook tripe."
Lu Mingfei took a bite of the potato chip with a blank expression, looking just like a wilted, dehydrated celery stalk.
"Don't you have any ideas?" Su An raised an eyebrow.
"I know Zhao Menghua always cheats and leaves the shortest slips for me, but what good would it do if I told them? It wouldn't make a difference if I exposed them, and they still take me out for hot pot."
Lu Mingfei kept rambling on, saying he didn't care, but his eyes grew dimmer and dimmer. He curled up in his chair, as if using his small arms to create a distance between himself and the world.
Su An snatched the potato chips from Lu Mingfei, poured them into his mouth, and ate them all with a crunch.
Lu Mingfei paused for a moment, then weakly asked, "If you still want some, there's some in the cupboard..."
Su An slapped her hands against Lu Mingfei's face and stared intently at him:
"Damn it! Why didn't you fight back when someone stole your things? Whether it's potato chips or the woman you love, there's no reason to just give them away!"
Lu Mingfei managed to remain calm when he heard "potato chips," but upon hearing "beloved woman," his face instantly turned red, and he stammered, "Wh...what beloved woman..."
"Even a fool could see you like Chen Wenwen!"
"I, I...I'm not..."
"You're not trying to tell me that your passion for literature is what keeps you staying in the literary society, even if you're unlucky, you're not going to complain?"
Lu Mingfei was enraged. He glared angrily at Su An, but then softened after half a second.
He remained silent, turned around, opened the drawer, opened another bag of potato chips, and began crunching away.
"At least I can eat potato chips for free, so staying here isn't so bad. And you've been discharged from the hospital, so we can play StarCraft again. I'm not as miserable as I thought."
Su An sighed deeply.
"I'm going abroad."
"What?" Lu Mingfei's composure crumbled in an instant.
"I have been pre-admitted to a school in the United States and will be boarding a flight abroad in three days."
Lu Mingfei finally panicked. His mouth trembled uncontrollably, and after a long while, he slowly managed to stammer, "Going abroad is a good opportunity...it's great."
Su An couldn't take it anymore, so he grabbed Lu Mingfei and pulled him towards the door.
"Follow me!"
