Chapter 93 Cluster Thinking
Chapter 93 Cluster Thinking
The chilling sound echoed through the cave.
Dark red tides surged in from all directions, forming an unstoppable red wave that engulfed any intruders.
A cold, slippery sensation enveloped my entire body, while a fishy, foul odor filled my nostrils.
Xinwu waved his arms, trying to break free, but the number of worms was so enormous that they piled up on top of him, depriving him of every inch of space to move.
Several exceptionally thick worms crawled up his neck. The cold, soft bodies rubbed against his skin, twisted, and approached his face, trying to pry open his teeth and crawl into his mouth.
Foul-smelling viscous fluid dripped from the corners of his mouth, and the suffocating pain was robbing him of his reason.
The fire of the heart ignites, only to be extinguished due to the master's weakness.
Just as he was on the verge of death, a sharp pain pierced through the illusions and pulled him back to consciousness.
This pain became the only anchor point connecting us to reality.
Xinwu gritted his teeth, and following the direction of the pain, he grabbed the thing that was biting him in reality and pulled it outwards without hesitation.
The skin and flesh were torn.
The damp, dark cave shattered like a mirror image.
His senses returned, and Xinwu lost his balance and fell to the ground.
The exclamations of the surrounding priests became clearer.
A wave of exhaustion washed over him. He braced himself on the ground, his stomach churning. The sticky sensation in his mouth from the hallucination was too real. He opened his mouth wide, trying to vomit something, but could only manage a painful retching, nothing came out.
My back was soaked with cold sweat.
Xinwu raised his head and looked at the half-worm that he had pulled off and thrown on the ground, which was being surrounded by several priests with torches. His voice was hoarse.
"What... are those...?"
Before the surrounding priests could respond, a sharp electronic noise exploded in his mind.
"(╬Ò‸Ó) How dare you hang up on me! You mere Xinwu."
Jane's voice boomed through the connection to the divine power, making his already throbbing head buzz.
An exquisite iron cube floated in from outside the door, and the emoticons on the light screen flashed wildly, in a fit of rage.
"Do you even know how dangerous that was? A bunch of junk external frequencies were trying to pull you in, all of it unprocessed and unfiltered garbage data! If it weren't for the great Jane's quick reflexes, forcibly cutting off the connection, your brain would be burnt to mush by now!"
Xinwu collapsed to the ground, gasping for air, utterly exhausted, with no energy left to argue with the divine messenger.
In front of him, the half-torn soft body was still writhing.
The elder priests finally recovered from their shock. They hurriedly picked up torches and the stone pestle used for pounding medicine, and smashed and burned the dark red mass into a pile of charred, mangled flesh.
Fear filled the room as the priests whispered prayers, pleading with the gods to completely destroy the unclean monster.
But the gods did not respond.
The fact that inanimate objects separated from their hosts could still suddenly attack and injure people was completely beyond their previous understanding.
Beasts from another world brought panic.
Xinwu looked at the pile of wreckage; the strange feeling he had when he fell into the illusion had not completely faded.
In that dark and damp space, he sensed a vast, chaotic, yet strangely intertwined cluster.
"That's not a hallucination." He used his hands and feet to push himself up to stand up.
"( ̄- ̄) Of course it wasn't a hallucination. The guy who bit you just now was part of a Gestalt cluster. They all share a brain, and each person is a part of it. Your inner fire's perception of consciousness is like a universal plug, connecting you into their messy main network."
"However, they are essentially mindless beasts. No matter how large the herd, their individual consciousness cannot compare to that of the great Lord Jane." (^ω^) Jane turned the screen towards him, "What exactly did you see in there just now?"
The sacrificial area fell silent.
Xinwu opened his mouth, but found it difficult to describe it with the right words.
"I saw a cave." Cold sweat trickled down Xinwu's forehead. "There were worms there, so many, so many... an endless expanse."
"( ̄- ̄) That's natural. The greatest advantage of a complete Gestalt cluster is its sheer number. But no matter how many there are, it's useless. Before the great Jane Austen, they will be burned to ashes in no time."
The sacrificial area has returned to quiet.
The priests dared not utter a sound and retreated outside the door.
Xin Wu stared at the charred, mangled flesh on the ground.
In the fog, the Firefowl could not send out scouts to investigate, not even someone as capable as his father.
Even the strongest among the Salaried Clan risk being besieged and killed if they rashly leave the city. They must find a way to break through the city's defenses.
That brief connection was their only way to reach the enemy's core at the moment...
Xinwu clenched his fist and looked again at the divine messenger in mid-air.
"Divine messenger, I want to try again."
"(O_O)? Try what?"
"I want to connect again, maybe... I can."
"You'll most likely die. Your father, Xin Zang, became so outstanding by absorbing the treasures of the kobold society with the help of the gods and the power of his inner fire. But you're going to be connected with mindless beasts. What's inside is no less than poison to intelligent beings. I'm not a god, so I can't help you relieve the pressure."
"But this is something only I can do..."
"You're not the only one who possesses the Heart Flame. Xin'an and your father, Xin Zang, can both do it, and they have a higher chance of surviving than you." For some reason, Jian seemed somewhat indifferent at this moment, making Xin Wu feel like a stranger.
He couldn't discern the emotions from the divine messenger's unique physical structure, but inexplicably, he felt pressure emanating from the divine messenger—pressure from a superior.
"Please, messenger of the gods..."
The metal box hovered in mid-air, the halo on the screen fluctuated violently, and Jane was unusually angry.
"(╬Ò‸Ó) You intelligent beings, can't you just live a normal life?!"
The piercing shouts echoed inside the stone house.
"You short-lived creatures will die sooner or later, why bother taking your own lives? Even if you manage to join the war, what difference will it make? The war won't change because of one person! You'll most likely die empty-handed, serving no purpose other than causing worry to those around you!"
Xinwu refused to compromise and maintained his pleading stance.
But then the metal cube came crashing into them.
Losing his balance, Xin Wu fell backward. A burst of white light appeared, and a white plastic chair materialized out of thin air, binding him to the seat with inescapable threads.
Jane hovered in mid-air, the emoticons on the screen a chaotic mess.
"What do you take me for?!"
"I am your messenger of God! Your messenger of God! What I say is forbidden, is forbidden!"
After speaking, Jane realized she had gone a bit too far, and with her emotions calming down, she turned her face away.
"You think I'm worried about you? In my long life, you people of the Fire Clan are nothing but mayflies..."
The metal box turned and floated towards the door, unwilling to linger any longer.
"I just didn't want to see Xin'an sad because of your death!"
The messenger disappeared outside the door, and the last few electronic voices that came through were intermittent and seemed to be tinged with sobs.
