Chapter 52 The Truth Spanning Two Years?
Chapter 52 The Truth Spanning Two Years?
After finalizing their plans, Lynn and her two companions began packing their luggage.
In the room, Lynn was packing his bags with his head down. Finally, he picked up the prophecy book that had lost its magic, thought for a moment, and then casually prepared to put it into the leather buckle at his waist.
Although this book of prophecies may seem like worthless paper now, it might be worth some money if sold to a collector.
He had only made half of the movement when a faint, aged voice came from behind him.
"young people,"
Cromwell, standing behind him, stared intently at his waist. "You're carrying something quite interesting."
Lynn paused, then casually pulled out the book and waved it in his hand: "Grandpa, do you recognize this?"
"I vaguely remember it, can I take a look?"
Lynn hesitated for a moment before handing the book of prophecy to Cromwell.
Cromwell's eyes changed as he picked up the book: "It really is it, the grimoire of the Great Sage Evish... I never thought I would see it again after so many years."
"You've met him before!" Lynn was no less surprised than him.
"I've seen it, but it's not the real thing. When I was young, I was fortunate enough to see a replica of it at the hands of a magician. It's said that this is one of the great sage Evish's most prized works, allowing the holder to see any future they desire."
"but……"
Cromwell moved closer, examined it carefully, and clicked his tongue in disappointment. "The magic on it has completely disappeared."
"I guess it was not long ago that it exhausted its magic, bringing me to this day two years later."
Upon hearing this, Cromwell was taken aback at first, then shook his head vigorously.
"Impossible. The core of this book is about observing the future, not interfering with time. As far as I know, the only magic that can interfere with time is the magic of the goddess."
Lynn frowned even more deeply, a huge mystery rising in his mind.
If this book hadn't brought me to the future two years later, what exactly happened in the special agent captain's room back then?
What did you learn from this book?
Cromwell pressed on.
"At the time, I only had time to read the first sentence."
Lynn recalled the scene, "It said I would be teleported two years into the future."
"That's all?"
"Yes, I was teleported right after I read that sentence." Lynn nodded.
Cromwell gave a strange look upon hearing this. "If that's the case, then you might have already read the rest of the content."
"?" Lynn looked completely bewildered.
What do you mean by "reading only the first page is equivalent to reading the rest"? Can you speak like a human being? I don't understand.
"This book is not meant to be read with your eyes," Cromwell said.
"what?"
Now not only Lynn, but even Laoffen next to her was confused.
"This is a book of prophecy; its content will evolve in real time based on how you see the future."
Cromwell said, "Perhaps you saw further into the future and learned that during the two years you 'skipped,' something happened that you couldn't resolve, or that required your absence to be effective. Or perhaps, somewhere in the future, there's a hurdle that requires those two years to overcome."
"So, you're saying that I, at some point in the future, initiated this teleportation?"
Lynn was stunned.
If it's true, what terrible thing happened in the past two years, or in the future, that would force someone to resort to such an extreme measure as "disappearing for two years" to avoid trouble?
"Possibly," Cromwell nodded.
"It seems this journey is more troublesome than I imagined."
Lynn gave a wry smile and put the book back into his waistband.
After all that rambling, the mystery remained unsolved, and instead, a danger warning was added.
"Don't think about it anymore, let's go!"
Cromwell suddenly roared, picked up his spiked club, and walked outside.
Lynn and Laoffen exchanged a glance, both gave a wry smile, then picked up their bags and followed.
Since you've already been thrown onto the chessboard, you can only grit your teeth and go all the way to the end, to ask the bastard who set this up, who might be your future self, what he's up to.
……
After the three left the village, they hired a carriage and arrived in Hellit in the afternoon.
This is a typical border town, with towering city walls lined with patrolling soldiers.
Cromwell, carrying the metal mace, looked around curiously.
As soon as Lynn entered the city gate, he was drawn to a large building in the distance.
It was a fortress built entirely of black rock, with its only entrance facing the town. It was surrounded by towering walls and dense arrow towers, creating a rather imposing atmosphere.
"That's an imperial prison."
Laofen followed his gaze and explained softly, "Most of the Shadow Warriors who committed crimes in the capital are imprisoned there."
Lynn narrowed his eyes, and the image of a squinty-eyed nun appeared in his mind.
Lorelei, the one who helped him remove the magic from his body.
"Is that nun named Loretta still alive?" Lynn asked casually.
"She's not dead, she's in prison," Laofen said.
"Since we're here, let's go see her. Maybe we can find out something about what happened back then."
After finishing his sentence, Lynn walked straight to the prison gate.
Cromwell followed behind, carrying his spiked club, muttering, "Prison is great, everyone in prison is a genius."
Two soldiers at the entrance immediately crossed their swords and blocked the way.
"Stop right there, what are you doing?"
Lynn stopped and smiled innocently: "Visiting prison."
"Who are you going to investigate?"
"Lorene".
Upon hearing those two words, the expressions of the two soldiers changed drastically.
What was originally just routine indifference has now turned into vigilance, even a hint of hostility.
The soldier on the left took a half step back and reached for the alarm whistle at his waist.
After all, the warriors in the movie are all serious criminals. Ordinary people wouldn't even dare to mention it, let alone visit them.
"The warriors in the shadows are traitors to the Empire, imprisoned at the lowest level, and forbidden from being visited by anyone," the soldier said.
Just then, Raofen, who had been silent all along, took a step forward, reached into the pocket of her robe with her right hand, pulled out a plaque, and threw it over.
The soldier instinctively caught it, looked down, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
It is a token of the court magician!
The soldier, holding the plaque with both hands, bowed and approached Laofen: "What brings you here, sir?"
Laofen reached for the sign, casually stuffed it back into her pocket, and said, "We want to see Lorelei."
"no problem."
The soldier nodded repeatedly, then stepped aside and gestured for them to go. "I'll take you to him right away."
Lorelei was imprisoned in the deepest part of the prison.
"This is it."
The soldier led Lynn and the other two to Lorelei's cell, then tactfully stepped aside, saying, "I'll wait outside. You can chat at your leisure."
Lynn approached the railing and saw the nun in the gray prison uniform with her long, slightly disheveled golden hair.
Hearing footsteps, Lorelei slowly raised her head.
His eyes remained closed.
"It's you."
Lorelei's voice didn't reveal much emotion.
"have not seen you for a long time."
What are you doing here?
"I owe you a favor, so I stopped by to see you. After all, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to break that spell so easily."
"It's just a transaction."
Lorelei said calmly, "However, the chaotic aura of time on your body seems to have disappeared. Did you do something?" (Mentioned in Chapter 38)
