Chapter 14 First Encounter with the Catwoman
Chapter 14 First Encounter with the Catwoman
Inside the brown paper bag, besides an old-fashioned cell phone and a crumpled twenty-dollar bill, there was also a beautifully bound invitation.
Li Wei was certain that this invitation was definitely not his personal property; at least before he fell into a coma, he didn't remember anyone giving him such a thing.
Upon opening the invitation, Li Wei was astonished to find that it was from the Wayne family, inviting him to a dinner party to be held at Wayne Manor in three days.
The reason was also quite respectable—inviting him, the newly appointed consultant of the Gotham City Police Department, to a dinner hosted by Bruce.
Looking at the invitation, Levi suddenly felt like laughing; Bruce was definitely gloating.
Inside Wayne's villa, Bruce smiled at Alfred, a hint of amusement playing on his lips.
"Ah Fu, what do you think that guy's reaction will be if he wakes up and sees my invitation?"
"Sir, I think he will be flattered. This is an invitation to a dinner party from the Wayne family."
Seeing the smile on Bruce's face, Alfred was genuinely happy.
He hadn't seen Bruce smile like that in a long time, so he had the leisure to tease him for a bit.
Bruce was very pleased with Alfred's words. Levi had said a lot of strange things last time, which had really impressed him.
However, he did not believe that Li Wei was an omniscient and omnipotent prophet, otherwise he would not have been made so miserable by the clown, and in the end, he could barely be considered to have won a Pyrrhic victory.
Bruce thought that Levi was just a guy with excellent reasoning skills who happened to make up some fitting content.
"Afu, remember to send him two sets of clothes."
He remembered not seeing any decent clothes on the guy in the police safe house.
"Don't worry, sir, everything has already been arranged."
Ah Fu always had a smile on his lips; it was the first time he had ever seen the master pay so much attention to someone.
...
Three days later, Li Wei fled the hospital as if he were escaping, and got into the police car amidst Gordon's mocking smile.
"Hey buddy, I really don't know what's the rush," Gordon said with a laugh. "Aren't there any nurses out there that you like?"
"Oh, buddy, please spare me."
Looking at Gordon's strange smile, Levi knew exactly what he was thinking.
God knows how he got through these past few days. Ever since the Wayne family sent him a very high-end-looking suit, the nurses taking care of him have been replaced one after another.
As if they had planned it together, they used every trick in the book to try and invite Li Wei out for dinner.
If Li Wei refuses one nurse, another nurse will be assigned to him next time.
This morning, Gordon happened to see a nurse dressed in a costume that looked almost like a lingerie uniform changing his medication.
Despite his efforts to explain, Gordon still had an "I understand you" look on his face.
Seeing that Gordon was about to bring up the old issue again, Li Wei straightened his expression.
"As long as Gotham's evil is eradicated, I will not have any thoughts of romance."
Upon hearing Li Wei's words, Gordon's smile vanished, replaced by a deep respect for Li Wei.
He never expected that this guy who suddenly came to Gotham would have such lofty ideals.
"I believe in you. In that case, let's work together to build a better Gotham!"
...
At 7:30 p.m., Levi, dressed in a black fitted suit, stood with Gordon outside the magnificent iron gates of Wayne Manor.
Walking with Alfred through the Wayne family estate, Levi felt he had gained a new understanding of Bruce's wealth.
The manor's main hall was resplendent in gold, with crystal chandeliers reflecting dazzling light.
Looking at the socialites in the banquet hall, Li Wei felt a sense of unreality.
"Dude, don't be nervous. I felt about the same way when I first came here."
Gordon took two glasses of champagne from the tray the waiter was carrying and handed one to Levi.
"I was just like you when I first came here, but after seeing more of these people, I realized they're all just so-so," Gordon said with disdain.
"So what social celebrities? Many of them are even dirtier than the homeless on the street."
After Gordon finished speaking, he downed the champagne in one gulp.
Looking at Gordon, who was acting like an angry young man, Li Wei didn't know how to comfort him.
From his very first day working at the Gotham City Police Department, Gordon witnessed firsthand the sordidness of the city's upper echelons.
It's fair to say that Gotham's security might be better without these so-called social celebrities.
"Hey buddy, I've been a bit out of line. You can wander around, I'm going to the restroom."
Gordon gave Li Wei a brief instruction and then headed straight for the restroom.
Looking at the bustling banquet hall, Li Wei felt somewhat out of place among them.
Suddenly his gaze was drawn to a black figure, a slender woman.
She was wearing a maid's uniform and rabbit ears on her head.
She wore black pantyhose, revealing her long, slender, and beautiful legs; her athletic figure exuded a wild power.
At that moment, she danced gracefully among the crowd like a butterfly flitting among flowers.
Although he couldn't see her face clearly, Li Wei couldn't help but admire her in his heart.
Before his gaze could follow the woman any further, a burst of enthusiastic applause suddenly erupted in the banquet hall.
"Mr. Bruce is here! He's so handsome!"
"Yeah, handsome and rich, my god, Bruce is practically the ideal prince charming..."
Hearing the compliments coming from the surroundings, Li Wei followed their gaze and looked up to the second floor.
Bruce, dressed in a blue suit, exuding an air of nobility, stood at the top of the stairs, smiling and greeting everyone.
This stark contrast made Li Wei secretly grumble to himself.
That night at the safe house, this guy wasn't so polite.
Bruce walked down the stairs, chatting with the people around him from time to time, and soon he reached Levi.
"Hello, are you Li Wei, the consultant at the police station?"
"Hello Mr. Bruce, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Since this guy wants to put on an act, Li Wei will naturally play along.
After a round of pointless mutual flattery, Bruce left satisfied, secretly pleased that Levi hadn't discovered his identity.
Looking at Bruce, who seemed to be floating on his feet, Levi was speechless.
I have no idea what this guy is thinking. Does he really think I don't know who he is?
Looking at the noisy crowd, Li Wei felt somewhat disheartened; he didn't think it was necessary for him to socialize with these people.
Listening to the noise, he just wanted some peace and quiet. That old bastard Gordon was so disloyal; he didn't even bother to call him when he went to the bathroom.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, Li Wei walked directly towards the back door.
Gordon had just mentioned that there was a garden over there, and he was curious to see what made Gotham's richest man's garden so special.
Just as he reached the small garden, under the bright moonlight, Li Wei spotted a beautiful figure climbing down from a second-floor window.
At this moment, she was wearing a black leather jumpsuit, a black goggles, and two pointed cat ears on her head—a pair of specially designed goggles.
She moved quickly and landed on the windowsill to the ground in no time.
But when she saw Li Wei looking on with great interest, she suddenly froze on the spot.
