"Hey... mysterious plane crash victim, you're back... and you even bought groceries? Who's this white-haired lady?"
Ying also lazily looked up and glanced over. When she saw Shen He's unique temperament and appearance, a hint of curiosity flashed in her eyes, but she was too tired to speak. She simply nodded slightly as a greeting.
Shen He's gaze swept lightly over the two people on the sofa, lingering for a moment on Ying, who was also a woman, before returning to Yi Chen, his eyes silently questioning.
Yi Chen smiled and introduced, "Senior sister, these two are Ying, a traveler staying with me, and her companion Paimon. Ying and Paimon, this is my senior sister from when I was training at the Liyue Cult, Shen He."
Paimon lifted himself up slightly and muttered under his breath, "Why is it always girls... Mysterious plane crash guy, you have way too many female friends..."
Before she could finish speaking, Ying covered her mouth.
Shen He nodded slightly toward the sofa as a greeting, his tone cool and aloof.
"Sorry for bothering you."
Her gaze swept across the living room, which clearly bore the marks of another woman's life, before finally settling on Yi Chen's face. Although he remained expressionless, the atmosphere in the room seemed to have inexplicably dropped a few degrees.
Yi Chen, however, was completely unaware of what was happening. He picked up the groceries and headed towards the kitchen, humming a song as he went.
"You all take a rest. I'll cook tonight to welcome you back!"
Shen He followed silently behind him, like the quietest shadow.
Meanwhile, Ying and Paimon on the sofa exchanged a glance, both seeing a strange... chill? and a certain anticipation of watching the show in each other's eyes?
That night, after a sumptuous dinner, Ying yawned and dragged Paimon, who was still complaining that he was "not full," upstairs to rest, leaving the downstairs space entirely to Yichen and the white-haired senior sister who made her feel a little "chilly."
Shen He sat quietly on the soft sofa in the living room, his gaze slowly sweeping over the spacious, comfortable, and well-furnished villa.
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting a soft silver glow on the room's furnishings.
"Junior Brother's home,"
"It looks great, and it's...comfortable."
Upon hearing this, Yi Chen, who was clearing away the dishes, looked up, smiled, and casually replied.
"Huh? Senior sister, you mean this? This isn't actually my home."
He wiped his hands with a rag and sat down on the single sofa next to Shen He.
“This is a friend of mine, the blue-haired cavalry captain Kaya you met this afternoon. He's temporarily renting this place for me. It's my own house…”
He paused, then shrugged:
"...I had some bad luck recently. I was accidentally hit by a Wind Terror... uh, I mean Dvalin. It blew me up and I'm probably not even able to find a single intact brick now."
He spoke casually, as if he were merely remarking on the nice weather rather than describing the devastating loss of his multi-million dollar property.
However, these words struck Shen He like a thunderbolt!
Her originally calm and unwavering eyes suddenly narrowed, and the already cool aura around her instantly became icy and chilling!
The temperature in the living room seemed to drop several degrees.
"The...bomb is gone?"
Shen He spoke, each word carrying a chilling undertone.
She slowly turned her head, her pupils fixed on Yi Chen, filled with disbelief, lingering fear, and... raging fury!
She suddenly reached out and grabbed Yichen's wrist with such force that even Yichen was slightly taken aback.
"You said... the place you used to live in... was destroyed?"
She repeated herself slowly and deliberately, as if to confirm that she hadn't misheard.
"And you...were inside at that time?"
She simply couldn't imagine that scene!
Her junior brother! The fiancé she had chosen, the one she was obligated to protect and take responsibility for!
He actually encountered something so dangerous! His house was blown up! And what about him?!
Although Yi Chen was sitting in front of her now, completely unharmed, the thought that he might have gone through such a dangerous situation, or even been injured... made Shen He feel a violent aura almost overwhelm the red rope's suppression!
Yi Chen was startled by Shen He's sudden and intense reaction and the almost tangible, chilling killing intent, and quickly explained.
"No, no! Senior sister, don't get agitated! I wasn't inside at the time! I just bought that house, and I haven't moved in yet! It's an empty house! It's completely empty! So I'm perfectly fine! See, everything's alright!"
He quickly moved his limbs to prove that he was unharmed.
Upon hearing "empty house" and "uninjured," Shen He's terrifyingly low mood eased slightly, but he did not immediately let go of Yi Chen's wrist.
She carefully examined Yi Chen from head to toe, making sure he was indeed unharmed, before her tense body slowly relaxed.
But the anger did not dissipate; it simply shifted its focus.
"Storm Dragon...Dvalin...?"
Is that... the culprit who hurt her junior brother?
Seeing Shen He's obviously vengeful look, Yi Chen knew something was wrong and quickly continued to explain.
"Senior sister, listen to me. Dvalin was controlled by the Abyss Order at the time and had no choice in the matter!"
It didn't do it on purpose! Now it's sober, and we've become friends, like strangers who met under unusual circumstances! Really!
Shen He remained silent for a moment, seemingly processing this information.
After a long while, she slowly raised her head. The coldness in her eyes faded slightly, but her stubborn sense of "responsibility" and "possessiveness" became even clearer.
"Even if it was not their intention, the danger had already occurred."
“This place is neither yours to live in for long nor safe enough.”
She gripped Yichen's hand even tighter in return, looked directly into his eyes, and made her decision:
"Tomorrow, I will go and find a larger, more secure, and absolutely safe mansion. I will leave this matter to my senior sister."
Her tone suggested that she was not discussing the matter, but rather announcing a given fact.
Since her fiancé's home has been destroyed, isn't it only right and proper for her, as his fiancée, to rebuild a home that is more to his liking and safer?
In this way, certain "unnecessary people" (such as the traveler upstairs and the flying creature) can be naturally "invited" out.
Yi Chen: "???"
Wait... how did things get to this point?
Chapter 32 Domestication (Protection)
Seeing Shen He's determined look that he would definitely buy a new house tomorrow, Yi Chen felt anxious and quickly grabbed Shen He's hand.
"No need, no need! Senior sister! There's really no need to go to such trouble!"
"Anyway, I won't be staying in Mondstadt for long. After we finish dealing with the Dvalin return ceremony in a few days, we can go back to Liyue together, right?"
Besides, this house is a token of Kaiya's goodwill; it wouldn't be right to just abandon it, would it?
Let's just make do for a few days; there's no need to go looking for a new house!
He tried to distract Shen He from the important matter of "buying a house" and pulled her to her feet.
"Come on, senior sister, let me show you the other rooms first! Which one would you like to stay in tonight? Pick whatever you like! There are plenty of empty rooms!"
Shen He was half-pushed and half-pulled by him, temporarily putting aside his plan to purchase the property, but his gaze still swept over the doors of those rooms, as if assessing whether their sturdiness and safety met the standards for "keeping (protecting) his junior brother".
The two strolled leisurely through several simply yet cozy guest rooms. Yi Chen enthusiastically introduced each one, saying things like, "This room has a south-facing window and good natural light," and "That room is quiet and far from the stairs." Shen He, however, only glanced at them indifferently, offering no comment.
Finally, after looking at the last guest room, Shen He stopped.
She turned around, as if she had made up her mind, and without beating around the bush, asked directly:
"Junior brother, which room... is yours?"
"Ah? Mine?"
Yi Chen was taken aback by the sudden question, and subconsciously pointed to the half-closed door at the end of the corridor.
"It's... the one furthest inside. What's wrong, Senior Sister? Are none of the other rooms to your liking? Should I try again..."
Before he could finish speaking, Shen He had already started walking, heading straight in the direction he was pointing.
Although Yi Chen was a little confused, he still followed along out of habit, continuing to explain as he went.
"My room isn't anything special, just a bit big, and it has a balcony where the morning sun shines in, which is quite nice..."
Shen He pushed open Yi Chen's door. The room was indeed as he had described, simple and casual, even a bit messy.
A few clothes that had been taken off were casually draped over the back of the chair, and some incomprehensible trinkets and books were scattered on the table. The bed was fairly tidy, but you could tell that the owner had just tidied it up after getting up.
It is full of life, yet... it also has a unique aura that belongs to Yichen.
Shen He's gaze slowly swept over every corner of the room, finally landing on the spacious double bed, his eyes flickering slightly.
She turned around to face Yichen, who had followed her in and was still rambling on about how great the view from the balcony was.
"There's no need to look at any other rooms."
"I will sleep here tonight."
Yi Chen: "...???"
He blinked, his brain seemingly blanking for a few seconds, not quite understanding the deeper meaning of the sentence, and simply confirming it literally.
"Oh? Senior sister, you like my room? That's great! I'll sleep in the guest room tonight! This bed is really comfortable..."
Shen He gently shook his head, interrupting him, and took a step forward, almost standing in front of Yi Chen, announcing clearly, word by word:
"I mean--"
"You and I will stay here together."
"But...isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
Yi Chen scratched his head, a slightly troubled look on his face.
“Although we also lived in a cave on Mount Aozang… that place was much bigger, and our master was there too. Now… there’s just one bed… it feels… strange to sleep in a room like this.”
It wasn't that he disliked his senior sister, but subconsciously he felt something was off.
Upon hearing this, Shen He simply shook her head slightly and sat down gracefully beside the double bed, as if she were the owner of the room.
"Sharing a room and having no distracting thoughts can also be considered a form of mental cultivation. Junior brother, you don't need to be too bound by worldly views, nor do you need to... let your mind wander."
She deliberately added a very slight pause to the phrase "distracted thoughts," as if testing the waters.
Yi Chen crossed his arms and pondered for a moment, seemingly convinced by the idea of "cultivation." Then, his eyes lit up as he found an even more plausible reason.
"That's true! We'll have to help Senior Sister completely dispel the evil energy in her body sooner or later anyway. Now, we should cultivate our understanding and trust more so that our dual cultivation will go more smoothly when we return to Mount Aozang!"
Shen He nodded silently, agreeing with this statement, and sat quietly on the edge of the bed without saying another word.
But those eyes remained fixed on Yichen, unblinking.
There was a brief silence in the room.
After a while, Shen He spoke again, his voice still cold, but carrying a hint of something extremely difficult to detect... anticipation?
"Junior brother, I did not bring any change of clothes."
She lowered her eyes slightly.
"Could I... borrow your clothes for a while?"
"Of course you can!"
Yi Chen agreed without hesitation and immediately went to the wardrobe to rummage through it.
"Senior sister, how about this pajama set? It might be a bit big for me, but it should fit you perfectly... And the lining is brand new and has never been worn..."
He picked out a few clean and soft-looking pieces of clothing and handed them to Shen He.
Shen He took the clothes that still carried Yi Chen's scent, his fingertips curling slightly.
"Thank you, junior brother."
She said softly, gently holding the clothes in her arms.
"Senior sister, why don't you go take a shower first? The towels are all new."
Yi Chen pointed in the direction of the bathroom.
"I'm going out for a bit, I have something to take care of."
