Chapter 463 Magical Reform

Chapter 463 Magical Reform (Part 7)

That very night, the alchemist and Abigail got into a fight outside the tavern. The battle between the two mages also drew in many other mages. Although Abigail's side had fewer mages, she still won the fight.

However, this battle also became the fuse, plunging the entire magical world into a full-blown war. The situation was initially fairly evenly matched, but the addition of Constantine, Zatanna, and Doctor Fate shifted the tide of the battle toward maintaining the new spellcasting system.

Just when despair reached its peak, a dangerous name began to be repeatedly mentioned by the conservatives: Felix Faust. He was a notorious black magician, a habitual criminal who made deals with the devil.

However, Faust was also a powerful sorcerer who possessed enough strength and wisdom to oppose the reformers.

Faust's spellcasting system sounds very similar to Constantine's school, but in reality, he only made a deal with demons, but he did not have demon or angel blood in his body, and could also use some ordinary spells.

Now, this powerful dark mage has been banished from the main world and should be drifting in some secondary dimension, but the conservatives believe that Faust will certainly want to cause trouble for those reformers.

"Are we really going to do this?" An old mage frowned, looking at the resolute faces of the others, feeling uneasy. Cooperating with Faust was tantamount to seeking help from a tiger; he was a great mage capable of negotiating with demons, and ordinary mages would be no match for him.

But a female mage, her eyes brimming with tears, resolutely declared, "Rather than live on my knees, I'd rather befriend demons!"

Everyone knows this female mage named Illaoi. Her father and husband were killed by a mage named Cairne because they publicly rejected the new spellcasting system.

But when it comes to blood feuds, Illaoi doesn't even rank among the most hated people present. Ironically, it wasn't Doctor Fate, Constantine, or Zatanna who killed their loved ones or friends, but rather the mage who should have been on their side.

Therefore, many people present agreed with Illaoi's statement.

They began to set up a magic array, bringing the once-exiled villain back into the main universe. This terrifying dark mage had long since lost his physical body, but his powerful soul had been preserved.

He came to the center of the magic circle and stretched out his long tongue to lick the body of the innocent person, but in the end he shook his head.

"No, his magical talent is too weak," Faust said with a sinister smile. "I need a better vessel, yes, a better one. I deserve a better vessel—"

By the end, Faust had begun to whisper to himself, as if speaking to himself. His sinister gaze swept over everyone present, as if he were looking at merchandise on a shelf with cold indifference.

Before being banished, he may have retained a sliver of kindness, but after being banished and tormented by the Pocket Dimension for so long, Faust had long since lost any remaining kindness; he had become insane and vicious.

All the monks present were shocked by his actions and were speechless for a long time.

Most of the mages brought Faust back to the main universe to use a strategy of using one enemy to devour another, to make him fight the reformers to the death. However, the first piece of meat Faust wants to eat is actually themselves, which is unacceptable to some of the mages present.

However, there are always some monks who are obsessed with the deaths of their relatives or friends. They are willing to make sacrifices to make the reformers suffer more casualties, even at the cost of their souls.

The first mage to do this was Illaoi.

"Use me as a vessel!" She took a step forward, her face filled with hatred.

Faust leaned closer to the woman, then sniffed her, and a smile spread across his face. "Ah, what a sweet and wonderful pain, what a rich and juicy death! If only you were a man, I wouldn't really want to use a woman's body—"

However, after Illaoi took the lead in stepping forward, many male mages also stepped forward, willing to give their lives to bring Faust back to life.

After circling among these magicians, Faust chose one who had not stepped forward.

In the mage's mind, a cold, slippery voice resounded, "Rest assured, your sacrifice will accomplish a great undertaking—your body will become the perfect foundation for my immortality!"

"All talk of conservatism and reform will only make them my slaves, hahahahaha!"

The sorcerer wanted to scream, to rebel, to expose Faust's sinister intentions, but he had lost control of his body; his vocal cords were unresponsive, and his magic was frozen.

He then felt his memories being stripped away, his emotions being drained, and even his self-perception being altered. The poor sorcerer lost everything and ultimately became a terrifying monster named Faust.

The old mage standing at the very back felt a chill run down his spine. The conservatives had underestimated the power of this terrifying mage, and perhaps they had also underestimated Faust's greed—this matter had to be revealed!

Having made up his mind, the old monk lowered his eyes and mind, pretending to follow the crowd.

Faust, now back to life, looked at the others, slowly curling the corners of his mouth into a terrifying smile.

When Faust spoke, the voice emanating from his vocal cords was exactly the same as that of the possessed sorcerer, but the tone, rhythm, and the deep-seated madness, arrogance, and joy perfectly showcased Faust's madness.

"Not bad." He summoned a mirror, appraising his face with satisfaction, a hint of contentment in his voice. "A young body, young blood, abundant magic—truly a perfect vessel!"

The tone was as if commenting on clothing, but none of the mages present dared to utter a sound. Offending a high mage had far more serious consequences than provoking a legendary warrior.

But soon, Faust turned around and looked at everyone. He didn't waste any more time. Instead, he stood directly on an oak table and looked down at the group of mages who were now bewildered by his cruelty.

"My fellow practitioners, I have seen their actions in this sorcerer's memories!" His voice was like a whisper from hell, yet strangely persuasive. "They told you it was for safety?"

"Bullshit! Security is just the oldest mask of Doctor Fate's tyranny! Constantine himself is a walking disaster. If Doctor Fate really wanted security, he should have thrown Constantine into hell first!"

Faust continued, "I know that bastard too well. Doctor Fate said he wanted safety, but it was just so he could become the biggest troublemaker. Me! I'm the guy who was banished for that very reason!"

"There's not much humanity left in the head beneath Doctor Fate's helmet. He just wants to turn this vibrant, chaotic, yet infinitely possible magical world into a dull place of order."

"And Zatanna, that naive young lady, thought that putting reins on the wild horse of magic was an act of love, but she didn't know that she would be strangling its soul!"

"What is magic? Magic is the direct collision of will and reality! It is the flame ignited by desire! It is the ecstasy of dancing on the edge of a blade with ancient gods, demons, and spirits! But it is definitely not about borrowing power from a god and then using oneself as a medium to release it!"

"Friends, they're not protecting you; they're draining all the wildness, all the surprises, all the—fun—of magic!"

Finally, he gazed around and whispered, "And I, Felix Faust, may not be a saint, but I am willing to stand here with you to defend the last and most precious thing about magic: the right to choose freely!"
