Chapter 404 Damn it, how did things turn out like this?

While eating his pizza, Rune asked, "Are you here to see Luther?"

The Flash scratched his head. Strange, how did Rune know?

"Because in this universe, only Luthor could possibly imprison Doomsday," Rune replied. "Also, I can't read minds; it's just that you wear all your emotions on your sleeve."

"Wow, can you teach me?"

"Batman can teach you; go find him."

"Really?" Green Lantern turned around, looking Batman up and down. "You really can—well, read people's minds from their faces—or maybe just mind reading or something?"

Batman remained silent for a long time, his mind filled with various medical explanations and technical terms. In the end, he could only answer, "Perhaps."

Batman and Lex Luthor are the most intelligent humans on Earth, but they have different focuses.

Luther focuses on developing specific tech trees, such as powered exoskeletons with kryptonite and analyzing and copying alien technologies.

Batman is better at observation, and Bruce can certainly lead the development of the armor, but he doesn't have the time, so this part of the work is basically handed over to Lucius Fox.

"But why do you know all this stuff?" Hal asked, genuinely curious. "I mean, you patrol Gotham every night, dealing with those lunatics—where do you find the time?"

Batman glanced at Hal. "Because I'm Batman!"

Luther was hiding in his secret base, and his trusted lieutenant, Mersey Graves, was standing beside him, watching the surveillance footage together.

"A mage connected to the Justice League—" Luther said in a low voice, "Perhaps this attack is related to him, or at least he should know—"

"This attack might actually have something to do with me."

A voice came from behind Luther. Mercy turned around, raised her pistol, and aimed it at Rune and the Flash, but Luther stopped her.

"It's alright, my dear subordinates, they won't hurt me." Luther turned around, pressing down his secretary's arm as he smiled and said, "So, esteemed mage and Flash, what brings you here?"

The Flash said nothing, but pressed a button on his arm. A deep voice came from the speaker: "Why release Doomsday?"

"If I could, I wouldn't want to do this either," Luther slowly shook his head, "but I have to."

Rune could believe what Luther said.

Releasing Doomsday at this time and place would be of no benefit to Luthor; on the contrary, it would bring disaster to Lex Luthor.

After all, everyone can see that Doomsday escaped from Lex Luthorium, and Lex Luthorium collapsed.

Since Rune could think of it, Batman could too, so after a moment of silence, he asked, "Then what is your reason for having to do this?"

"Someone attacked me," Luther replied coldly. "Could it be that your Justice League has once again foolishly released some supervillains, and they've even affected me? If so, you'd better wait for a cease and desist letter!"

"How many people attacked you?"

Luther looked at the boy who had asked the question. Oh, a high school student. He liked kids like this, hovering on the edge of adulthood. They hadn't yet formed their own worldview and were easily influenced by external opinions.

Even more amazing, just now, he saw through the surveillance footage that he easily defeated Doomsday and even pierced his outer armor with a weapon he casually pulled out.

Thinking of this, Luther's eyes started to dart around.

This level of thinking wasn't enough to render Luther incapable of answering the question. "There were two people, a man and a woman. They were both dressed in black and incredibly strong; the woman even had laser eyes!"

"So you released Doomsday just to save your own life?" Batman retorted. But Luthor had his own logic.

"Don't underestimate me, little bat," Luther replied with a sneer. "Releasing Doomsday will certainly kill many civilians, but at least it will allow me to survive. And if I survive, I can save even more people in the future—"

Luther looked at Rune, "Some people are born strong, like my brain, like your power. It's a gift from heaven, and also a mission. You are destined to rise above everyone else, just like me—"

"There is no distinction between high and low, noble and lowly, human life, Luther!" Batman interrupted him. He sensed that Luther was trying to manipulate Rune, so he forcefully broke the silence.

Luther is a powerful figure in DC Comics, possessing immense personal charisma. The Three-Body Problem and the subsequent Eternal Evil should have been major events dedicated to him.

Unfortunately, the criminal syndicate was wiped out by Rune before they even reached this cosmic court.

After learning the whole story, Batman immediately ordered the Flash to bring Rune back. He couldn't accept a powerful wizard being brainwashed by Luthor and then standing against them.

Even now, Zatanna still doesn't understand how Rune defeated Doomsday!

Looking at the spot where the Flash disappeared, Luthor simply smiled. So what if he was interrupted? Those kids love this kind of social Darwinist theory; they always naively believe that in this society, they are the lions...

Black bear.

But in reality, if such a society were to truly arrive, they would only become food for real lions and black bears. And all I need to do is say a few words, and they'll obediently throw themselves into my arms, crying and begging to be eaten—

Rune had absolutely no interest in what Luther was saying.

Why did he need a partner when he could have gone it alone? If Luther hadn't been certain to contribute to the fight against the Forsaken in the future, Rune would have even wanted to kill him outright.

Soon, Rune arrived at the Hall of Justice, and the first thing he saw was the snacks and takeout on the table.

"You guys weren't watching me fight Doomsday while eating snacks and takeout for entertainment, were you?" Rune looked at the other Justice League members suspiciously.

Rune's words froze the expressions of everyone except Constantine and Zatanna.

Oh no, I forgot to put these things away.

Batman continues his cosplay of Gendo Ikari on the table in the lobby, Superman is at a loss, Green Lantern and Barry come over and explain to Rune one after another, Aquaman looks down at the scenery, and Wonder Woman covers her forehead.

Constantine was laughing so hard he was practically convulsing. Getting these Justice League members to make that face wasn't easy. Zatanna helplessly covered Constantine's mouth, trying to make him less conspicuous, but Constantine shamelessly stuck out his tongue and licked her hand. Enraged, Zatanna slapped Constantine.

Damn it, how did things turn out like this?
