Chapter 285 I'm not going to put up with you guys

Even though Rune's spellcasting was stopped, more than twenty people around him died, turning into ashes and vanishing completely.

The entire Avengers Tower plaza fell silent at the horrific sight, with the crowd behind them halting in their tracks and staring in horror at Rune.

"My God!" Spider-Man shouted, his voice shrill with surprise and rage. "How could you do this?!"

"Oh?" Rune raised an eyebrow at Peter. "You'll have to ask those idiots about that."

At that moment, a suit of Iron Man armor flew out from the upper floors of Avengers Tower.

"Everyone, calm down!" Tony's voice came from inside the armor, but Rune knew that the armor was probably just an empty shell.

Tony quickly glanced at the surrounding crowd, noticing the terror on their faces, and asked helplessly, "You killed someone, didn't you?"

Rune nodded. Just then, several people at the back of the crowd turned their backs and began to flee frantically. The moment Rune cast his spell, this rabble already knew that the other party was not a hero at all, at least not a soft target like Spider-Man or Captain America.

So, while Iron Man distracted Rune, they tried to leave the scene quickly, but unfortunately, Rune had already locked onto everyone present while being attacked by the rock and the homemade Molotov cocktails, and no one could leave.

Thus, they were directly corrupted by dark magic. Moreover, to set an example, Rune deliberately used only a small amount of dark magic, allowing these fleeing individuals to cry out in despair, but they too were reduced to ashes within four seconds. Their deaths served as a warning to the others; Rune's message was clear—anyone who dared to run would die.

At this moment, the crowd was even more terrified.

"That's strange," Rune said, looking at the group of protesters. "You all dared to talk back to me before, but now you don't dare to say a single word. Why is that?"

"Isn't that enough?" Spider-Man asked, his eyes pleading for Rune to stop. This sorcerer wasn't just a hero who had saved their universe twice; he hadn't even asked for any payment and had allowed Peter to bring Aunt May, Gwen, and Jane along. Peter was grateful to Rune, which was why he was now in a dilemma.

Rune shook his head. He didn't answer Peter's question, but instead looked at the rabble and asked, "I'm asking you a question, speak!"

Tony and Daredevil also came over and pulled Rune away, hoping he would let the group go, but unfortunately, Rune had no intention of giving up.

Of this group, the most enthusiastic among them had already been killed by Rune for rushing in too quickly. Those remaining were merely followers; it was hard to say what their motivations were—perhaps jealousy? Perhaps anger? But Rune didn't bother to guess.

With a wave of his arm, he randomly picked someone from the crowd and grabbed them.

Rune wanted to grab her hair and question her about the previous question, but he found to his amusement that she had no hair and her face and ears were covered with earrings. Rune didn't even know if she could board the plane.

"You, you answer this question for me, okay?" Rune sneered, "Stop crying and begging, answer the question right now!"

The woman nodded hesitantly, then hesitated for a moment before asking, "Um, what did you just ask? I was too far back to hear you—"

?

Rune glanced at Tony's drone armor, then at Peter. He was so angry he laughed. He could only ask again, but the woman was speechless.

"Runn, this isn't the place to talk. Let's go inside the building," Stark suggested. Over the past few minutes, more and more heroes had arrived. Stark had long understood that given Runn's personality, the Avengers would inevitably clash with him sooner or later. Therefore, Tony had already held a meeting with the other heroes to devise a contingency plan and helped Steve keep it a secret from Runn.

However, it was indeed inconvenient for Steve to appear at this time; he still needed to keep Superman Clark in check.

"We can talk here too," Rune shook his head slightly, then looked at the group of protesters: "You are truly worse than pigs and dogs. The Avengers have faced more than one being stronger than me for the sake of ungrateful wretch like you, but what about you?"

He sneered, "You didn't dare utter a sound when facing me, let alone resist. You're a bunch of scum, you deserve to die!"

Perhaps it was this phrase, "deserves to die," that prompted a man to step out from the crowd and shout, "Hey, we're not one of you!"

He gritted his teeth, as if making up his mind, and said loudly, "We're not a bunch of freaks like you. We don't have any superpowers."

"What about Tony?" Rune countered. "Tony Stark doesn't have any superpowers."

"But he's rich! Money power is definitely a kind of superpower!" the man shouted.

"And what about Hawkeye?" Rune continued, "What about the Punishers? They don't have superpowers, they're just mortals, yet they still had the courage to face the mighty Thanos and Galactus. — And you? You're just making excuses for your own weakness—"

With that, Rune shook his head regretfully: "Never mind, even talking to you makes me feel like I'm wasting my time."

Spider-Man, Daredevil, and others tried to control Rune, but unfortunately, their power was insufficient to stop him. As a result, everyone in the entire square turned to ashes within seconds.

Seeing this, Daredevil fell silent. His normal identity was that of a lawyer; he even understood the loopholes in the judicial system. Furthermore, Daredevil had wanted to kill despicable and cunning villains like Kingpin countless times. During this time, the excessive actions of the protesters had also caused him considerable distress.

Therefore, he had to travel to areas farther from home to protect ordinary people.

But Runes are different.

"You know perfectly well that they can't possibly hurt you—"

Rune looked into Daredevil's eyes, those cloudy, lifeless eyes, and said, word by word, "No, you are spoiling these ordinary people. Your long-standing acts of heroism have made them take it for granted. Therefore, these protesters have no gratitude towards you whatsoever; some even hate you. Do you know why?"

"Because some of them are police officers, and you've taken their jobs."

"Even so, no one has the right to decide who lives and who dies!" Spider-Man reacted most vehemently of the three. His principle of not killing clashed violently with Rune's actions. He pleaded with Rune, "You saved us, you saved all of us. You shouldn't be a henchman. You could have done so much better—"
