Chapter 237 Victory Celebration Banquet

Chapter 237 Victory Celebration Banquet

On the school bus, Rune was laughing at Clark. Superman was powerless against the Kryptonite necklace—actually, just against Lana, Clark was powerless as well.

Going to school has always been a rather boring thing for Rune. He has made up his mind to give up school after finishing high school and instead study magic. Although in the future, almost every hero has a doctoral degree, Rune doesn't care.

My future title will still be Doctor Doom! Who says a Doctor of Magic isn't a doctor?

When Clark got home in the afternoon, he kept complaining about having a lot of homework to do and training to attend. It wasn't until Rune reminded him that he was going to a celebration party that night that Clark remembered about it.

"Alright!" Clark was so happy he wanted to jump up, but the heavy training he had been doing had enhanced his flying ability, so he was more like flying. Rune grabbed his waist and pressed him down.

"He's outside," Rune whispered, bringing Clark back to his senses. He looked around, then breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, there aren't many people here."

Back home, Wanda was already waiting for her at Jonathan's Farm. The raven following behind Rune looked at her current teacher with a puzzled expression, wondering why she had come to the farm. Wanda greeted the raven with a big smile on her face, clearly indicating that the Chaos Mage was in a very good mood.

The raven happily approached Wanda and whispered something to her teacher.

Rune also explained to Wanda why she came to the Kent farm: she wanted to return to another dimension and bring her children back.

"Wait—" Clark's eyes widened, he tugged at Rune's clothes, pointed at Wanda and asked, "She looks so young, how can she have a child?"

Wanda, of course, heard Clark's question, and she smiled at him, asking, "You really think so?"

Rune, who knew Clark well, nodded and spoke for Superman: "Look at that silly look on his face. Yeah, he really thinks so, 'Hey!'"

At this moment, Wanda was wearing ordinary jeans and a loose beige sweater, a very casual outfit. The Scarlet Witch had no worries about being recognized on the street and causing a scream. The pressure from the chaotic magic on her also decreased significantly, so she finally relaxed a bit and even had time to enjoy the food.

Thanks to America's unhealthy eating habits, Wanda gained some weight, but this wasn't a bad thing. Her high cheekbones were covered by flesh, making her face look much softer and less domineering than before. She also looked much younger; at least thirty years old, Wanda now looked like a recent college graduate.

Of course, there might also be magic involved.

"You have a sweet tongue." Wanda smiled with satisfaction. Being praised by a handsome boy gave her a great sense of accomplishment, so she played a little trick, pulling out a few pieces of candy from a patch of crimson flames and handing them to Clark.

"Oh—" He took the candy, but he didn't seem happy.

Rune looked at Clark and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"

"Among us, I'm the only one who doesn't know magic—" Clark was somewhat saddened. It seemed that all the superpowered people he had encountered so far were magic-based. Having seen so many of the conveniences of magic, he felt that his superpowers were a bit inferior.

"Hey!" Jonathan felt offended: "Your mom and I don't even have superpowers! We're doing just fine, aren't we?"

After chatting for a while, Rune led the group to Avengers Tower, a building Raven had never seen before. Clark and Scarlet Witch, however, knew the place well and led Raven to find Tony and Steve. Rune followed behind, hoping to get a free meal.

When they arrived at the banquet hall, Tony Stark had changed out of his iconic gold and red battle suit into a well-tailored dark blue suit. The valiant warrior who once bravely fought against the onslaught now looked more like a successful businessman.

"Rune, you're late! Even interdimensional portals get traffic jams?" Tony joked, though the banquet hall wasn't actually very crowded. He then looked at Scarlet Witch, his expression complex: "Never mind, welcome back!"

Then Tony hugged Clark and pointed to the door: "Come on in, kid. Everyone come on in!"

At that moment, loud laughter came from inside, and it sounded like Thor.

Rune followed him into the room. As expected of Stark, the room was brightly lit and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a stunning view of New York City's most dazzling nightscape.

Rune stood by the window, gazing absently at the New York City skyline at night. He knew this beautiful view would soon be destroyed. He wondered if it was the right choice to only take in heroes? Should he let the ordinary people die?

"Is it pretty?"

A familiar voice rang out, and Rune turned around to see Steve asking him the question. The theoretically centenarian was dressed in a white shirt, a bomber jacket, and jeans—looking as old-fashioned as could be.

"Your outfit—" Rune looked you up and down, then asked, "Are you dreaming of the 1940s?"

Steve shrugged noncommittally. That was just his taste, and Carter liked it too, so it was fine. "You still haven't answered my question. How does the scenery here compare to where you are?"

Rune looked out the window again and said frankly, "To be honest, the scenery here is beautiful, but I haven't been to our New York yet. However, judging by the timeline, there should be two things in another New York that are extinct here."

However, Steve didn't get Rune's lame joke. He'd only been out of the ice for a few years and didn't really like surfing the internet, so he wasn't sensitive to the Twin Towers hell joke. Rune could only offer an explanation. But this explanation stripped the hell joke of its humor.

Only hell remains.

"I hope you can stop this," Steve said, looking out the window as well.

Rune was silent for a moment, then suddenly asked, "If the world were to end, and you could escape with the other heroes, but the civilians would die, what would you choose?"

"It sounds absurd," Steve said, finding the question odd, but he answered anyway, "but I won't abandon ordinary people."

As he spoke, he smiled and looked at Rune: "This problem sounds a bit like the trolley problem, but if it were me, I would crash that damn trolley."
