Chapter 202 Welcome, Doctor Fate

Chapter 202 Welcome Back, Doctor Fate

When Nelson put the helmet back on, he was enveloped in golden light. Under the light, all his wounds were completely healed, and the powerful magic of order returned to his body.

"Welcome back, Doctor Fate."

Dr. Fate, floating in the air, nodded to Rune: "Just call my name during negotiations. Also, remember to come and learn magic every Sunday."

Rune nodded. Although he already possessed the complete Kamar-Taj magic system, learning more was never a bad thing. He also took the opportunity to feign complete oblivion and faint next to the Doctor of Destiny. This guy had been pretending to sleep the whole time, but when you cover your eyes with your hand, could you at least not leave such a large gap?

"Henry Allen is a good man," Doctor Fate said softly. "Don't hurt him."

In the short few days they spent together, he was able to feel the kindness of his fellow patients.

“He won’t be hurt in any way,” Rune replied. “When he wakes up again, his only question will be why he slept for so long.”

After saying that, Rune looked Doctor Fate up and down: "I'm curious, just how bad do you think I am that you would think I would attack an ordinary person?"

Doctor Fate touched his helmet, then shrugged: "Uh—sorry?"

Rune didn't bother to argue. He turned around, opened a portal, and went straight back to his workshop. Anyway, he didn't need to sleep tonight. It was already past midnight, and Clark would wake up in a little while. He might as well study magic here.

Kamar-Taj's magic system is truly worth studying in depth, although he has only learned the Mirror Dimension so far.

Bosat's Lightning and the Devouring Secret Technique are not yet covered, but judging from their difficulty, some of these spells are actually less difficult than the spells in the Harry Potter world.

Rune could understand this phenomenon. Greater power didn't necessarily mean greater sophistication. The Hulk could throw a brick with more power than a sniper rifle, but that didn't mean the former was more valuable; it just meant the former had greater force. The same principle applied to Kamar-Taj magic.

However, while learning, Rune also had to correct a part of the magic. Fortunately, it was just changing the source of the magic from a certain god to himself, which was not too difficult. He did not intend to simply learn a certain spell, but to study the principles of Kamar-Taj magic in depth.

After borrowing magical energy from the demon god, the wizards of Kamar-Taj will further process it. Like the wizards in the Harry Potter world, they firmly believe that a combination of strong conviction and willpower can completely change the real world. However, in the Marvel universe, this statement is directly written at the beginning.

At Hogwarts, you have to figure it out for yourself.

Rune continued to study the magic books carefully. The annotations by many masters on cosmic energy and the mysteries of magic were truly eye-opening for him. Even Rune himself had to admit that compared to these masters…

He was just a young man fresh out of school.

Just as Rune was eagerly learning magic, Clark burst in. He went straight to Rune, and seeing that he was studying magic, Clark excitedly grabbed Rune's shoulders and shook him violently.

"I'm going to be a hero today!" Clark's mouth was practically stretched to his ears in a grin. Rune glanced at his watch and realized it was only a little past three—earlier than Clark's usual wake-up time. He seemed too excited to sleep. Considering the physical condition of Kryptonians, Rune figured waking up a little early once or twice a day wouldn't be a problem for Clark.

"First of all, you're just going on a visit. Secondly, I don't think becoming a hero is something you should celebrate, Clark," Rune said in a low voice. "In that world, becoming a hero means sacrificing something."

When he said those words, Rune thought of Peter Parker who lost Ben, the Hulk who closed himself off and created his own personality, and Captain Marvel Clarke who lost her memories and her sense of racial identity. This was the first time he was about to become a hero. He had only seen heroes on TV or in comics saving people from danger and receiving praise and worship from others, but he had not seen what it was like for heroes to lose what they cherished.

Thinking of this, Rune, who had already spent quite a bit of time with Clark and developed a deep affection for this somewhat rebellious young man, said softly, "If you regret it and don't want to be a hero—"

"No!" Clark soared into the air, a confident smile playing on his lips. "You see, I've been given this power, and with it comes equally heavy responsibility—something you always tell me."

"Everyone has their own unique talents," Rune interrupted him. "I know, I know. Let's have a meal first. It's not much, just enough to fill our stomachs. There's a super-rich man treating us to dinner over there."

Those street heroes had almost completely devoured his stock.

At that moment, a beautiful puppet automatically brought over a whole custard cherry pie that had been placed in the refrigerator.

When the dish was served to Clark, he didn't care about getting his hands dirty and just picked it up and started eating.

Since he had nothing better to do, Rune started a conversation, asking, "How's your relationship with Lana going?"

puff!

"Don't waste food!" Rune frowned as he reminded him, while Clark stared at him wide-eyed.

A look of disbelief.

How did you know?

Sometimes, Clark is adorably silly. Rune really wants to see if he has awakened the super intelligence unique to Kryptonians. Just like when you try to strike up a conversation with someone on the school bus every morning, he's even more innocent than a virgin. The worst part is that he always trips up in front of them.

Rune knew, of course, that this was because Lana's family heirloom necklace contained a kryptonite, but he had no legitimate reason to acquire it. Although the kryptonite content in this town was ridiculously high, Rune had obtained the vast majority of it beforehand, so Clark was still unaware of the existence of kryptonite.

"Look at our little boy, he pesters people with questions every day, and always watches Lana go home—" Rune recounted to the boy one by one the things Clark had done, and Clark's face turned bright red. He rushed in front of Rune and covered his mouth.

"Stop talking, stop talking—" he pleaded. Rune nodded, but after Clark let go, Rune delivered the final blow.

"Clark, everyone in the class knows you like Lana."

Some people even bet on how many steps you'd take before your legs gave way near Lana! But Rune didn't reveal this cruel truth, though Clark had already covered his ears.

"I can't hear you, I can't hear you—"

Like an ostrich. Rune thought to himself.
