Chapter 198 Symbiotic Armor
Rain fell on the streets of New York, the mist rising and creating a hazy, beautiful effect under the streetlights. Nick Fury stood atop a tall building, his single eye gazing at the Avengers Tower, half-hidden in the rain, in the distance. The Avengers Tower at the top of the building...
The logo emits a bright red light, which perfectly matches Tony's aesthetic.
He was such an flamboyant person, just like his father.
Fury, who was lost in thought, disappeared from the rooftop the next moment. He returned to his car and drove to Avengers Tower.
Fury wanted to ask Stark a few questions, a few very important questions.
The security system at Avengers Tower automatically scanned Fury's retina and vital signs as his vehicle entered the underground parking garage. The elevator doors slid open silently, and he stepped inside.
"Good evening, Chief Fury," Friday's voice came from the ceiling.
"Where are the Starks?" Fury smirked.
"Mr. Stark is currently in the lab. Would you like guidance—?"
"No need," Fury interrupted. The elevator doors opened on the floor where the lab was located, and he strode in. The corridor lights turned on one by one as Fury entered. He reached the lab door, but didn't interrupt the focused Stark. It seemed he was researching something extraordinary, and indeed he was.
Tony's fingertips slid rapidly across the holographic projection, his attention now almost entirely focused on the white, viscous substance bound by a force field in front of him.
Ever since Rune provided him with the idea of the symbiote armor, he has been working tirelessly on its development. Tony has high expectations for this armor. For armor, the energy source is always an unavoidable weakness, but the combination of symbiotes, nanobots, and artificial intelligence can effectively solve this weakness.
If my armor is alive, then naturally I don't need to worry about the energy source.
Although he successfully created a mindless symbiote that could be directly attached to his body within a few days, it was still some distance from creating a complete suit of armor.
"This is really interesting, isn't it?" He approached the force field generator. The white substance seemed to sense his approach and suddenly began to writhe violently, forming countless tiny tentacles that slapped against the force field barrier. Tony's pupils dilated slightly, reflecting the white, viscous liquid.
This symbiote has not yet been injected with nanobots, so it still retains its own consciousness.
"Look, it's learning and adapting to the frequency of the force field!" Tony's voice was filled with excitement. "It only takes less than three hours..."
It can escape from it. This learning speed is terrifying.
“Yes, that just proves how extremely dangerous it is, sir,” Fury finally spoke, warning, “symbiotes are highly aggressive and parasitic; you shouldn’t use them as raw materials for armor.”
Tony ignored Fury, turning to the workbench and tracing a panel in the air with his finger. The panel displayed a complex interface: "That's why we need to upgrade our protective measures. Activate the nanoprotocol and prepare for the bio-mechanical fusion experiment."
The laboratory lights turned a dim red, and several robotic arms descended from the ceiling, beginning the orderly assembly of the transparent culture chamber. Tony took off his suit jacket, unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, revealing the curved reactor on his chest, its blue light particularly striking in the laboratory.
Tony injected a tube of silver nanofluid into the incubation chamber's interface: "What business does the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a man whose face is rarely seen, have with him what he needs from a businessman like me?"
Inside the incubation chamber, nanobots spread out rapidly like mercury, forming a thin film. Tony adjusted the control panel, slowly guiding the white substance in the force field towards the incubation chamber. The moment they made contact, all the lights in the laboratory flickered.
"I heard you're going to join that organization Rune created," Fury asked, his one eye also fixed on the symbiote. "And you're going to send a few ordinary people to visit Avengers Tower?"
"That's Rune's cousin, and his adoptive parents." Tony said without turning his head, "Rune is willing to let Steve train his cousin."
This in itself proves that Rune is fine; after all, he's Captain America—
"It's the former Captain America," Fury reminded him. "The current Captain America is in the election, and His Majesty the President prefers Falcon to take the role."
"For the votes of minorities, right?" Tony was smart, and if a company in the United States develops to a certain stage and doesn't get involved in politics, the company itself will become prey for other companies. He happened to have studied related content, not much, but enough to give him a clear understanding of the world.
Honestly, Tony would rather spend a day drinking with an Asgardian than play role-playing games with those old fogies.
"Actually, I'd prefer Bucky to be the one," Fury sighed. "But Bucky and the Howling Hoof are seriously injured, and considering Bucky was brainwashed again, I don't think the chances of him becoming Captain America are high."
At this moment, Friday interrupted their conversation: "The energy fluctuation exceeds the expected value by 400%. It is recommended to terminate the experiment."
"No! Wait a minute!" Tony stared intently at the incubation chamber. The white substance was fusing with the nanobots at an alarming rate, forming a bizarre hybrid of metal and life. It alternated between a liquid state and a twisted solid state, and its surface reflected an eerie light.
If all goes well, this large mass of white substance will become the two bottles of unconscious symbiote that Tony previously gave to Rune.
"It's so beautiful," Tony murmured, his fingers unconsciously touching the glass of the incubation chamber. At that moment, the symbiote suddenly erupted, transforming into spikes that pierced through the reinforced glass and aimed straight at Tony's face.
At the critical moment, Fury threw a disc-like object. When the small object exploded, it emitted a huge amount of flames, and the reactor on Tony's chest burst into a bright light. A layer of nano-armor also instantly covered his right arm. Fury was obviously unaware that the nanobots would improve the symbiote's weaknesses, so the white substance still hit Tony's arm.
The moment it hit, the white symbiote immediately changed its form, wrapping around Tony's armor like a living thing and beginning to spread throughout his body.
"Damn it, I knew something was wrong." Fury cursed, a gun appearing in his hand out of nowhere. Tony raised his hand, stopping Fury from making his next move.
"Don't shoot! I was prepared!" Tony yelled. "Activate emergency separation procedures!"
He yelled at Fury while trying to shake off the white substance on his arm. But it was too late; the fusion had already covered half of his body, the nanoarmor and alien symbiote combining at an astonishing speed.
"The separation process has failed, sir. It's rewriting the armor's base code!"
"Our mad scientist really knows how to make things difficult for himself," Fury yelled. "Does he need my help or not?"
Tony didn't have time to reply; he only felt a sharp pain coming from his arm, as if countless needles were piercing his nervous system at the same time.
Black spots began to appear at the edge of his vision, and a strange whisper rang in his ears. It was not a language he recognized, but he could understand the speaker's meaning directly.
We are a symbiotic organism; we are one.
