Chapter 146 Loki has rebelled yet again!

However, bad news always comes in waves.

Not long after learning of Professor X's death, news also came from Thor's side.

"Brothers, I have something to do, I might not be able to make it—" Thor's voice came through, but compared to his usual carefree demeanor, his tone was unusually weak, and he hung up the communicator before even finishing his sentence.

Let's rewind a few hours.

The skies over Asgard have never been so gloomy.

The once glorious golden palace was shrouded in the blood-red sunset, dark clouds churning, lightning tearing through them with blinding light. Fragments of the Rainbow Bridge lay scattered in the air like broken stars. And at the head of that shattered bridge, Loki Laufeyson stood proudly, behind him an army from the ten realms—frost giants, dark elves, fire demons, and even winged angels. Their roars shook the nine realms, their battle intent surging like a tidal wave towards Asgard.

Loki raised his staff high, a cold smile playing on his lips.

"Asgard, your king has returned!"

Odin's single eye was burning with thunderous fury. He was clad in golden armor and wielded Gungnir. Indeed, Odin in this universe didn't die as simply as in the movie universe. Although his hair was now completely white, his robust physique proved to everyone that while Odin had indeed aged, he was still capable of fighting.

Behind Odin stood Frigga, her fingertips shimmering with brilliant runes, clearly ready to attack. "Loki, you betrayed not only us, but the entire Nine Realms!" Odin's voice boomed like thunder. "And you all too! I could defeat you once, and I can defeat you a second time!"

Loki laughed loudly: "Stop bragging! You were young and strong back then, and you could fight quite well, but what makes you think you, an old man, can defeat us now?"

The allied forces of the worlds, who had just cowered at the sight of Odin's rage, shouted loudly upon hearing Loki's words, vowing to take revenge on the old Odin for the blood debts of the past.

The other nine realms need no further discussion, but the tenth realm is what mortals often refer to as Heaven, where the inhabitants harbor a deep hatred for Odin. They were originally mercenaries who served Odin, eliminating the Asgardian beasts that wantonly descended to the mortal realm and slaughtered mortals. However, when people from other realms offered them more money, they rebelled. During a conflict with Odin, they accidentally killed his daughter, enraging him and causing him to cast the tenth realm into nothingness.

But Odin didn't know that his daughter hadn't died; instead, she had become the strongest warrior in all of Heaven.

She's currently hanging out with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The cursed warships of the Dark Elves emerged from the shadows, the frost giants' ice behemoths shattered the city walls, and the fire demons' lava projectiles crashed down on the streets of Asgard like meteors. Odin swung his spear fiercely, and a torrent of golden divine power swept across the battlefield.

Countless enemies were reduced to ashes. Frigga formed hand seals, and a dazzling magical barrier enveloped the golden palace, blocking the barrage of arrows and magical missiles.

The war reached its climax in an instant. Asgardian warriors clashed hand-to-hand with the allied forces, and Thor descended from the storm, his hammer Mjolnir crackling with destructive lightning. His robes fluttered in the gale.

His eyes burned with anger and grief.

"Loki! Why did you lead the enemy to trample our homeland?!"

Loki looked at this large, clumsy man. This was the same man who had stolen the love of his mother, which he had once longed for, yet it was also this man who was always willing to stand in the face of his enemies to protect him. Loki's eyes were filled with complex emotions, but he still said coldly, "Our home? No! That's your home. Asgard has never been my home. I am the son of Laufey, King of the Frost Giants, and my mission is to conquer Asgard!"

"I am the true king of the ten realms!"

Thor said no more. He roared, and lightning descended from the sky, striking the enemy ranks. The lightning raged like a raging dragon, the frost giants turned to ice shards with a mournful cry, and the dark elves vanished in the lightning. He charged at Loki, his warhammer clashing with his dagger, sparks flying, but Loki refused to engage him in direct combat. After a few rounds, he cast a spell and left, leaving Thor to vent his anger on the other cannon fodder.

The Warriors Three of Asgard led the Asgardian warriors in a desperate defense of the city gates. Sif, wielding a longsword and her silver armor stained with blood, severed the heads of enemy after enemy with her blade.

"For Asgard!" the warriors roared, unyielding even in the face of overwhelming enemy forces. But the enemy was too many. The frost giants' icy spears pierced the warriors' chests, the dark elves' cursed blades reaped lives, and the dwarves' giant hammers smashed the city walls. Blood stained the golden streets, and the once glorious Asgard teetered on the brink of collapse amidst the flames of war.

Just as Loki was about to break through the last line of defense, Odin unleashed the power of a true god. He raised Gungnir high, and golden energy erupted like the sun, repelling the entire Dark Alliance. Loki was thrown back by the shockwave and crashed into the ruins.

But Odin also knelt on one knee due to exhaustion, and Frigga helped him up, her eyes full of worry.

Thor stood beside his father, panting as he looked into the distance—where the armies of the Ten Realms were still gathering, while Asgard—was already battered and bruised.

Just then, the communicator Thor had been holding rang. He glanced at the message; it was the same familiar code he knew all too well. But he couldn't return to the Avengers, nor could he even call for help from the Midgards—if they had any other means, they wouldn't have sent that message.

So he could only call back: "Brothers, something's come up, I might not be able to make it—"

Before Thor could finish speaking, Loki, amidst the ruins, unleashed a beam of green magic that shattered the communicator.

"You still want to ask those mortals for help?" Loki looked at Thor coldly. "Dream on!"

"Even without the Avengers, we can still defeat you, Loki!" Thor roared. "This battle is not over yet!"

"Fine!" Loki rose from the ruins, wiping the blood from his mouth, his eyes gleaming with madness and obsession. "Then let's see who the true King of Gods is!"

Three hours later, in the conference room of Avengers Tower.

"The most important thing now," Captain America said, scanning the recalled heroes, "is whether we choose to rescue Asgard—."

Having just been healed by magic and had the purple man's control effect dispelled, Wolverine said impatiently, "Come on, we all know your temper, Steve. Just tell us who's going to rescue them."

Steve was choked by the remark but wasn't angry. He simply explained in detail the potential threats the Asgardians might face, while Iron Man used his AI to analyze which heroes would be most suitable.

Rune watched from the side without saying a word, quietly contemplating how to use alchemy and spells.
