Chapter 135 The Death of Kingpin

Chapter 135 The Death of Kingpin

Kingpin grabbed the iron door lying on the ground and threw it directly at Rune. However, before the door even reached Rune, it was struck by a high-energy beam shot from his eye, instantly turning into a pool of fiery red lava. However,

Using the huge iron gate as cover, Kingpin successfully ran into his bedroom.

He picked up his cane. King wasn't unfamiliar with mutants; he'd encountered superhumans before, but the being he'd just encountered clearly belonged to another level. However, fear was never a factor in his choices. Watching Rune, who was tearing through concrete and heading straight for him, he hurled his cane. The seemingly ordinary cane suddenly transformed in mid-air, revealing a sharp blade that pierced Rune's chest.

But Rune simply raised one hand, and the cane stopped abruptly a few centimeters from his palm.

"Physical attacks are ineffective against me, Fisk. Your brute force is meaningless here," Rune said coldly.

Kingpin had already seized the opportunity to rush forward, his movements surprisingly fast for such a large man. A punch powerful enough to shatter concrete was aimed straight at Rune's face, but after the fist passed through a suddenly appearing blue light barrier, Kingpin felt his power completely absorbed, followed by a powerful recoil that threw him to the other end of the office.

He smashed a priceless antique display case, scattering glass and wood chips everywhere. Kingpin staggered to his feet, his white suit torn, revealing rock-hard muscles beneath. He spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, his eyes burning with fury.

"That's interesting—." Kingpin sneered, "You're much more impressive than those so-called martial arts masters!"

R

He pressed a concealed button on his wrist, and the office wall suddenly slid open, revealing a weapon rack.

Kingpin grabbed a strangely shaped pistol and fired without hesitation. What shot from the muzzle wasn't a bullet, but a rapidly spinning mass of energy.

Rune already knew about this thing through Legilimency. It was a vibranium weapon, one of Kingpin's trump cards. He had paid a high price to acquire it from those black-clad men, and the manufacturing process was extremely crude, failing to fully utilize the performance advantages of vibranium. Therefore, this pistol only looked impressive; in reality, it could hardly cause Rune any harm.

So Rune didn't even dodge. When the energy struck his steel body, nothing happened except his clothes turning to charcoal. "This is your secret weapon?"

Rune vanished from his spot and reappeared behind Kingpin the next second. He pressed one hand on Kingpin's shoulder, and red and black energy instantly flowed throughout Kingpin's body. The criminal emperor howled in pain, collapsed to his knees, and his muscles spasmed uncontrollably.

"It seems he's not as strong as you thought." Rune's voice was icy. "Wilson Fisk—the king of New York's underworld? How laughable. You rule over nothing but a bunch of criminals and cowards, hiding behind money and violence, yet you don't even understand what real power is."

Jin didn't reply; his face was contorted with pain, but his eyes still gleamed with an indomitable light. Suddenly, he mustered all his strength, lunged behind Rune, grabbed the fallen cane, and plunged the tip into Rune's abdomen.

This was a specially modified cane, its tip containing a trace amount of vibranium. Rune clearly hadn't anticipated this attack, and the vibranium surprisingly pierced into his body. As expected of a top-tier material in the Marvel universe, it could even slightly penetrate his skin.

Kingpin struggled to his feet, panting, but a victorious smile played on his lips. "Never—never—underestimate your opponent." Each word seemed to be uttered with immense effort, "especially—when that opponent—is Wilson Fisk."

"But that doesn't change anything, Fisk." Rune pulled out his cane, revealing a tiny wound—a small red dot that was barely visible, but that was the limit. King had used many trump cards, but all he'd gotten was a set of clothes and—well, something that could barely be considered a wound?

"Hey, we need to get to the hospital right away, or the wound will heal!" Oh, it's already healed. Rune slapped Kingpin across the face, the force sending the chubby head spinning three times. The future mayor of New York City, the common enemy of countless superheroes and supervillains, died quietly on an ordinary night. And the reason he died was simply because he refused to lend money to Rune.

Of course, even if he did lend Rune money, Rune had no intention of letting him live. He wasn't some Mr. Negative with a kind soul still within him, nor was he Daredevil, the hero who saves lives. What right did he have to live?

Using Legilimency, Rune easily located Kingpin's hiding place. He took a white suit from Kingpin's closet, shrunk it with Transfiguration, and then expanded the pockets with a Stretch Without a Trace Charm. Next, Rune took several bank cards from Kingpin's office, smashed a wall, and pulled out a dozen gold bars.

If Rune hadn't needed some time to access Kingpin's inventory, why would he have needed to play with Kingpin for so long?

"They're really rich," Rune remarked. Then, Rune casually dealt with the bodyguards who had come running at the sound, took out the Phantom Cat bloodline fusion potion he had made while waiting for Kingpin, and drank it down in one gulp.

Without any warning, Rune passed through the floor—without vibration or impact, his body seemed to disintegrate into billions of dust particles, falling through the gaps in the matter. Concrete, steel bars, pipes—everything flowed through his body. However, Rune himself could fly, so he quickly stopped falling and returned to the room.

Rune looked at his hands—they were sometimes transparent, sometimes solid, like holographic images with poor signal.

At this moment, a system notification suddenly popped up:

[Is upgrading one's talent at the cost of magical beast bloodline fusion: Shadowcat a pipe dream?]

Rune naturally nodded in agreement.

[Fantastic Beasts Bloodline Fusion: Shadowcat and Dream of the Yellow Millet have been removed; a new talent, Shattered Void, has been added.]

Rune wanted to test the Phantom Cat's abilities again, but discovered that he could no longer make his body appear intangible.

He couldn't help but sigh. Although he had somewhat expected it, he was still somewhat disappointed.

Shadowcat is merely an Alpha-level mutant. While she might seem powerful enough to most, she appears as naive as a child compared to Trigon. After all, the ability to traverse dimensions and time is Shadowcat's limit, but Raven's abilities extend far beyond dimensional travel.

In this context, it's understandable that the Phantom Cat bloodline was packaged as an upgrade item. After all, even the dimensional travel ability from the Raven's Blood was absorbed by the system.

However, even knowing this, Rune would still choose to upgrade his talent, "The Dream of the Yellow Millet." There are countless Shadowcats in Marvel, but even more powerful artifacts. Not to mention, Rune also wanted to repair his Levitation Cloak. He already missed it after only a short time away. With it, Rune wouldn't need to go to Kingpin's room for clothes.
