Chapter 118 The Provocateur's End
Dumbledore ultimately agreed to Rune's plan and personally pushed it forward. He summoned all regional magical institutions, hoping they would cooperate with Rune's plan, communicate with local Muggle governments to minimize losses, and ideally, cultivate the law enforcement class within Muggle governments in advance, improving their spellcasting abilities.
The grand event was held at the Ministry of Magic in London, with high-ranking officials from all regional magical institutions in attendance. While most regional officials supported Rune's ideas, they actually trusted Dumbledore more.
However, there will inevitably be some who openly oppose this. For example, right now, the opponent who shouted, "We strongly protest!" stood up and said in a strange accent, "I don't know how this little boy managed to bewitch you, but the Indian Ministry of Magic strongly opposes your inhumane treatment of Muggles."
Rune frowned and asked, "How is what I did inhumane?"
"You have deprived them of their right to choose freely!" said the dark-skinned man. He wore a plain white linen robe and had a dot of cinnabar between his brows.
"Oh?" Rune looked the Indian up and down, then smiled. "Then I'd like to ask, are people in your country free to choose their caste? Have you deprived them of their right to choose freely?"
Before the Indian could speak, Rune continued with a sneer, "Yes, yes, you declared equality for all in 1950, but did you achieve it? No, of course not. You didn't eliminate discrimination at all; you just gave more people the right to discriminate. You shit-eating, piss-drinking wretch, how dare you spout such nonsense here?"
Rune seemed to suddenly realize something, then slapped his forehead, feigning enlightenment: "I know why you wanted to stop me. You Indian sorcerers are the highest caste in all of India, you are the Brahmins among Brahmins—"
The Indian wizard was rendered speechless, stammering something like, "No, we didn't think that way." Seeing this, some of the wizards below booed angrily. They had initially somewhat agreed with the Indian wizard's statement, but Rune's words in public made them realize the wizard's true thoughts.
Some wizards even applauded.
Then, a wizard stepped forward to question, "I think your idea is excellent, but is your spell truly effective?" The speaker was an American wizard wearing glasses. "I'm not questioning your abilities, but I'd like to know the details of the spell. If you don't show everyone the true form of this incantation, I'm afraid you won't be able to convince everyone—."
This point immediately won the approval of many wizards, and many agreed with this statement. Rune glanced at the wizards around him and sneered.
The glasses worn by that American wizard were actually an alchemical artifact, effectively preventing other wizards from using Legilimency.
But he simply couldn't fathom the extent of Rune's magical power at that moment. Even from several kilometers away, and even with the protection of alchemical artifacts, Rune easily discerned his thoughts:
[After learning this spell, immediately reject the little boy's proposal, then use this spell to transplant dragon blood into your family members to enhance the family's power and consolidate its authority. If possible, kill Rune and the others who know the truth.]
He glanced at the wizards around him who echoed his sentiments and found that they all shared similar thoughts. Although their breakthroughs in spells were insignificant in the face of Muggle's rapidly advancing technology, and although they would likely be swiftly and decisively wiped out if they were to face a Muggle army, at this moment, their ideas were still utterly ridiculous.
Then Rune stood up and burst into laughter. Absurd! Utterly absurd!
Only after everyone exchanged glances did Rune stop laughing and say softly, "I don't know if you know my deeds, but I guess you do. However, I'm still puzzled. If you know, why are you courting death?"
Although his voice was very soft, everyone present could hear it clearly.
"You—you dare to kill someone in front of Dumbledore?" the American wizard shouted, glaring at Rune as if he were some kind of murderer. Rune then granted his wish.
"I dare!" Rune smiled. The next moment, the American wizard was lifted into the air like a puppet.
"Runes!" Dumbledore's voice rang out.
"Dumbledore!" Rune looked at his former headmaster. "Look at what they're thinking!"
The next moment, Dumbledore heard something with his own ears. Then, his gaze became unusually calm, and the surrounding temperature slowly dropped.
"I thought—" he began, his voice devoid of anger, only a heavy, almost compassionate quality slowly settling within him, "that you would make a calm choice, one that aligns with the interests of the entire magical world, for the sake of all wizards."
These words were as light as a snowflake, yet they sent chills down the listener's spine. Not because he raised his voice, but because he withdrew all expectations.
He slowly walked out of the conference room, and after he left, the conference room door was slammed shut with a loud bang.
Inside the conference room, Rune laughed. Then, an overwhelming, suffocating magical force emanated from him, twisting the American wizard's bones into bizarre angles. He tried to scream, but found he had no mouth. A moment later...
Something yellowish-white protruded from the wizard's forehead.
"Perhaps you don't know what this is, but I can tell you clearly," Rune loudly explained to the wizards present, "this is the pain receptor. It's the organ in the human body that senses pain. As the name suggests, it's the thing in the human body that senses pain. So, let's try changing the pain sensation every second and see how this wizard feels."
Then, Rune flicked his fingers, and flames, frost, needles, and other objects began to appear in turn. The wizard's eyes widened.
At first he struggled, but after a few minutes he rolled his eyes back and could not move no matter how much Rune stimulated him.
"Alas," Rune feigned regret, "this volunteer didn't last long. But I know some others share the same idea. These wizards will become my volunteers for experimenting with new spells."
"Oh, right, I forgot to mention—" Rune sneered at the high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Magic from various regions, "When did I ever say that this meeting was for you to offer your opinions to me?"
"What we talk about, all the time, is, damn it, how to execute it!"
