Chapter 132 Nobody's Here
Chapter 132 Nobody's Here
Lin Weiwei let out a soft "Wow".
The view from here is incredibly expansive.
Without the obstruction of tall buildings, one can see the undulating black outline of the Gobi Desert in the distance, and further away, the quiet, spreading darkness.
The sky hung low, and the stars were so numerous that it seemed you could reach out and pluck a few from the sky.
The night breeze blew in without hindrance, carrying the scent of the wilderness, and was much cooler than in the courtyard.
"How is it?" Bai Si'an walked to her side and stood next to her, looking out the window.
"It's beautiful." Lin Weiwei nodded, gazing at the starry sky. "How did you discover this place?"
"When I couldn't sleep before, I would climb up here to take a look, and sometimes I would even stay here overnight," Bai Si'an said calmly. "When I look into the distance, those little things in my heart don't seem so big anymore."
Lin Weiwei turned her head to look at him.
The moonlight shone on his profile, and the edges of the glasses perched on his nose gleamed slightly.
He was calm, gazing into the distance, lost in thought.
Her heart softened suddenly, and she reached out and took his hand.
Bai Si'an withdrew his gaze and looked at her.
After watching for a few seconds, he suddenly smiled, not the usual faint smile when he pushed up his glasses, but a genuine smile that lifted the corners of his mouth and the little flame in his eyes flared up again.
"What happened earlier," he began, scratching her palm with his fingers, "isn't over yet."
Lin Weiwei's face flushed: "What do you mean it's not over yet..."
"What do you think?" Bai Si'an pulled her closer to him, put his other arm around her waist, lowered his head, brushed his nose against her ear, and whispered, his breath brushing against her sensitive skin, "There's no one here."
He paused, then added with a mischievous glint in his eyes, "It's quite a distance. You could... speak louder."
Lin Weiwei's ears suddenly burned, and even her neck turned red.
She punched him on the shoulder: "Bai Si'an! Have you no shame?!"
"What's the point of having a face?" he said matter-of-factly, his lips already pressed against her earlobe, giving it a gentle suck. "You're all I need."
Lin Weiwei trembled all over, and her legs felt a little weak.
She wanted to yell at him, but the words turned into a soft sob.
Bai Si'an kissed her, silencing her completely.
Without the worry of the thin door, without the tension of the neighbors possibly hearing, he kissed her even more freely.
It's like something that has been suppressed for a long time has finally found an outlet to be completely released.
Lin Weiwei was so overwhelmed by his kisses that her hands unconsciously climbed onto his shoulders and grabbed the fabric of his military uniform.
My fingertips touched the skin on the back of his neck; it was a little cool, but it was quickly warmed up by his body temperature.
The moonlight gently shone on the two of them, outlining their close embrace.
In the distance came the faint call of some unknown animal, long and ethereal, which only made the breathing sounds in the small attic seem clearer and hotter.
A breeze blew in through the window, ruffling Lin Weiwei's bangs and causing Bai Si'an's shirt collar to sway slightly.
But his arm around her was very firm, not loosening at all.
In the neighboring courtyard, in Bai Rongbei's house.
Su Wanwan stood in the middle of the room, watching Bai Rongbei open his old wooden cabinet and take out the small iron box that Doctor Hu had given him.
The kerosene lamp cast a warm yellow glow, projecting his bent-over silhouette onto the earthen wall, making him appear exceptionally tall.
"Sit down." Bai Rongbei walked over with the iron box, gesturing with his chin toward the bedside.
Su Wanwan sat down on the edge of the bed as instructed, placing her hands on her knees with her fingertips slightly curled.
She watched as Bai Rongbei unscrewed the lid of the tin box, revealing a dark, pungent ointment inside.
"Lift up your clothes." Bai Rongbei scooped a small piece of ointment into his palm, rubbing it as he spoke.
Su Wanwan froze, blinked, and didn't move.
Bai Rongbei stopped rubbing the ointment and looked up at her.
Seeing the faint blush of confusion rising on her face, he realized that his words had come out of nowhere.
"It's not for me," he explained, his voice gentler than usual, "it's for you to wipe."
"Give it to me?" Su Wanwan was even more confused. "I...I'm not injured."
"This afternoon, the performing arts troupe was rehearsing." Bai Rongbei rubbed his palms together to warm them, took two steps closer, squatted down, and met her gaze. "I saw you do that spinning move. When you landed, you twisted your ankle and braced yourself with your hand, right?"
Su Wanwan remembered.
In the afternoon, she practiced a newly choreographed dance, which included a continuous spinning and kneeling slide. She did lose her balance once and had to use her hands to brace herself.
It hurt a little at the time, but it went away quickly, and she didn't pay much attention to it.
"Then you rubbed your right side a few times," Bai Rongbei continued, his gaze lingering on her right side.
"About... here." He stretched out his finger and, through her clothes, vaguely pointed to the area below her ribs, near her hip bone.
Su Wanwan subconsciously looked down at her right waist.
She felt a slight strain and a dull ache there, so she secretly rubbed it. She didn't expect him to see it from so far away.
"It's inevitable to bump and bruise while dancing, but if you don't rub the bruises, they'll hurt even more tomorrow." Bai Rongbei spread out his palm, gesturing to her, "Lift up your clothes, let me see."
Su Wanwan's face turned bright red instantly.
She looked at Bai Rongbei squatting in front of her, his serious expression revealing a pair of eyes that were usually calm but now reflected a flickering light, filled with unwavering focus and devoid of any other meaning.
It seems like this is just an ordinary thing, like eating and drinking.
You can...you can lift your clothes...
She gripped the hem of her dress tightly, her knuckles turning slightly white. The room was quiet, save for the faint crackling of the burning lamp wick.
Bai Rongbei waited patiently without urging her.
After a long while, Su Wanwan seemed to have made up her mind. She closed her eyes, and with trembling fingers, slowly rolled up the hem of her military green top.
The fabric rustled softly against the skin.
Sure enough, there was a small, inconspicuous patch of bluish-purple that stood out starkly against the fair skin.
Su Wanwan kept her eyes tightly closed, her eyelashes trembling violently.
His upper body was slightly tense due to tension, and you could see the subtle rise and fall of his ribs.
The cool air brushed against the exposed skin, raising a layer of tiny goosebumps.
Bai Rongbei's gaze fell on that small patch of bruise, and his brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
It was a bit larger than he had imagined.
He didn't say anything, but gently placed his palm, which had been rubbing the ointment together to warm it, on the surface.
"Hmm..." Su Wanwan trembled all over and couldn't help but let out a very soft groan.
His palms were large and hot, with a strong medicinal smell, pressed tightly against the skin of her waist. The heat made her heart skip a beat.
"Bear with it," Bai Rongbei said in a low voice. He began to press his palm against the bruise, rubbing it slowly and firmly.
