The story begins with Suneo showing off his family's Tyrannosaurus Rex toe bone fossil. Nobita, envious, casually declares he wants to find a whole dinosaur fossil.
Otherwise, he would eat pasta with his nose. So, he went to the library and borrowed some books about dinosaur fossils. Later, he dug up a fossilized dinosaur egg near a fault line and restored it using the Time Capsule to obtain a two-lobed dinosaur.
[And based on its cry, it was named "Pizhu".]
Nobita and the creature quickly became good friends, but as it grew larger and larger and was discovered, Nobita decided to send it back to the Cretaceous period. However, it was later discovered that it had been mistakenly sent to ancient North America.
So, Nobita and his friends traveled back to the dinosaur era in the time machine, but were chased by a mysterious man who wanted to steal Pisa. The time machine malfunctioned, forcing them to rely on themselves to travel back to Japan along ancient continental plates.
After a long adventure, the mysterious figure reappears, hoping to obtain Skin. It turns out to be a future lawless dinosaur hunter who wants to sell Skin for money. He demands that Nobita and his friends hand over Skin in exchange for being sent home in a time machine.
Nobita ultimately decides to try and steal the time machine, but he is discovered along the way, resulting in Shizuka, Suneo, and Gian being captured. Doraemon and Nobita rush to their rescue but fall into a trap.
They were placed in the dinosaur arena at the base. Dinosaur hunters released a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and just when they were about to be eaten, they discovered that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the same dinosaur that had eaten Momotaro's rice ball. With the Tyrannosaurus Rex's help, they turned the tide of the battle.
[They then cooperated with the Time Patrol to defeat the dinosaur hunters. Finally, with the help of the Time Patrol, they brought Pizhu back to its homeland.]
"Aha! I knew it! There really is an organization like the 'Time and Space Administration'!"
