Chapter 195 Straight to the Insect Nest
Chapter 195 Straight to the Insect Nest
After Moze escorted the supply starship to the First Army Group, he was warmly welcomed by everyone.
"Marshal, you're back! That's wonderful!"
"Marshal, you're not leaving again now that you're back?"
"Marshal, welcome back! We need you!"
After persuading the enthusiastic soldiers to leave, Mo Ze followed Gu Rong to their former office.
"Boss, you should take the marshal's position. I really can't do it," Gu Rong said, pressing Mo Ze into a chair with a bitter face.
When Gu Rong was appointed acting marshal, he was completely stunned. He was not cut out for it. He wanted to refuse, but when he was told that it was Mo Ze who recommended him, he reluctantly agreed.
But before he could finish his job, the Zerg came back with a vengeance. He had been forced into this situation and was on the verge of collapse when his boss returned. It was a lifesaver!
“Gu Rong, you’ve done a great job. I’m only back to help out; I’ll leave once the Zerg retreat,” Mo Ze said earnestly.
"What? You're leaving again? How can that be?" Gu Rong was shocked. He had finally managed to bring back the marshal, so why was he leaving again?
"My decision will not change. I only came back because of the emergency." Mo Ze's tone was very firm.
Gu Rong's face fell; he knew that his boss's decision was irreversible.
"Tell me about the current situation." Mo Ze came with a purpose: to resolve the immediate problem as soon as possible so he could return home sooner.
Gu Rong adopted a serious demeanor and recounted the recent insectoid invasions and suspicious circumstances.
After listening attentively, Mo Ze fell into deep thought. They had previously suspected that a highly intelligent race had emerged among the Zerg, and now it seemed to be certain.
These highly intelligent insectoids no longer rely solely on numbers and instinct to fight. Instead, they know how to formulate tactics and observe the weaknesses of human armies. Initially, they only conduct small-scale probing attacks, plundering resources and destroying facilities on some remote planets.
As their understanding of human defense systems deepens, their attacks become more frequent and audacious, amassing superior forces to break through key defenses, and human outposts fall one after another.
Even the main battlefield where the First Army Group is stationed is now seeing its defenses constantly retreating, and if this continues, it may fall completely.
"Boss, now that you're back, we're confident we can take back the lost ground." Gu Rong's feelings for Mo Ze remained unchanged.
Mo Ze remained noncommittal and asked another question.
"You just said they would launch surprise attacks?"
Speaking of this, Gu Rong was very angry, because they had suffered a loss because of this in a battle half a month ago.
At that time, the Zerg sent small groups of troops to feign attacks on the weak points of their defenses, drawing the main force to their aid. Subsequently, the main force suddenly attacked from the flanks and rear, catching them completely off guard.
Fortunately, they reacted quickly and, after realizing something was wrong, the main force of the army quickly returned to defend, thus preventing the Zerg from launching a successful sneak attack.
But the Zerg were not giving up. They intensified their sabotage of supply lines, sending stealthy Zerg to attack cargo ships laden with supplies, leaving the frontline troops in dire straits with no ammunition or food.
After understanding the situation, Mo Ze quickly made a decision: to take the initiative.
"Take the initiative?" Gu Rong didn't expect Mo Ze to be so bold.
“In the past, what did we gain from each time we were on the defensive? We only got a short rest, and after they multiplied rapidly, they would come back with a vengeance. This cycle repeated itself, and we were the ones who suffered.”
Mo Ze dared to make such a decision because of his own strength; in the past, he would have had to think twice.
"Alright, since you've said so, boss, we'll follow you and drive the Zerg back to their homeland sooner or later." Gu Rong's heroic spirit was also ignited.
Moze acted swiftly, temporarily assuming command of the army and forming a dedicated force to counter the new threat posed by the Zerg, which he personally trained.
They were all old subordinates, and their cooperation was very high. Five days later, the new combat methods were relatively mature, and the war with the Zerg was about to break out.
"Boss, this is the latest observation of the Zerg nests. They're in the asteroid belt not far from us. It only takes two days for a starship to get there from here." Gu Rong showed Mo Ze a dynamic map, on which the densely packed Zerg nests were clearly visible.
"Okay, pass the word down. Get ready, we're leaving tomorrow!"
"Yes!" Gu Rong accepted the order and left.
In the vast expanse of the interstellar battlefield, Moze led his warships like a bolt of lightning, hurtling straight towards the Zerg nest. Their attack poured down like a storm. This action caught the Zerg completely off guard; they had no idea that humans would launch a sudden attack.
After the initial panic subsided, various Zerg creatures surged out of their nests, surging towards the human army like a tidal wave.
Moze noticed that these Zerg seemed to have received instructions, and their attack went from being chaotic at the beginning to being well-organized later on.
Their vanguard consisted of agile, hard-shelled, and highly venomous Zerg, who moved at incredible speeds between asteroids, attempting to break through the outer defenses of the human fleet and pave the way for the main force.
Mo Ze, seated on the main ship, commanded the army to intercept with a barrage of fire, while laser cannons and missiles were unleashed simultaneously, instantly illuminating the dark universe.
The Zerg vanguard was breached, and the human army seized the opportunity to advance rapidly. Artillery fire rained down like a storm, and the Zerg army was blasted to pieces.
Despite suffering heavy losses, the Zerg did not succumb to despair. Like behemoths enraged to the core, they swarmed out in droves, a dense, overwhelming mass, like a black nightmare sweeping across the land once more.
Moze knew that the Zerg commander at the top was currently hiding behind the swarm, controlling the actions of the frontline Zerg by releasing special pheromones or some kind of signal that humans had not yet fully deciphered.
He personally led a commando team, taking advantage of the fact that the main Zerg forces were fighting the human army on the front lines, to secretly bypass the Zerg rear and sneak towards the Zerg command center.
Along the way, they encountered scattered Zerg defensive forces, but the assault team quickly dealt with them thanks to their superb combat skills and tacit cooperation.
As he approached the command center, Mo Ze's powerful mental energy instantly detected the Zerg's command signal, and he quickly used his mental energy to sever the signal.
The moment the signal was cut off, the Zerg on the front lines immediately fell into chaos, their actions becoming completely disorganized.
Knowing that the marshal had succeeded, Gu Rong immediately seized this golden opportunity and launched a general offensive. Artillery fire engulfed the Zerg army like a torrent. Under this fatal blow, the Zerg were utterly routed and scattered in all directions.
On the other side, after the signal went out of control, a huge Zerg emerged from the command center. It was several times larger than a normal Zerg, its body covered with hard, glowing scales, and its limbs were thick and powerful. Every movement it made caused a huge tremor in the ground.
It has a pair of curved and sharp antennae on its head, and its two eyes emit a deep red light, revealing a powerful sense of oppression. At this moment, it is staring at Mo Ze, as if it wants to devour him.
Mo Ze knew that this must be the king of the Zerg, the commander who controlled their actions. But he was not afraid at all; his gaze was sharp and carried a hint of contempt.
