Chapter 97 Shazam and Black Adam
Chapter 97 Shazam and Black Adam
Chapter 97 Shazam and Black Adam
After suffering its first heavy blow, Shazam flew out of control and landed in a refugee camp on the edge of the Nile River in the distance. The huge impact of the fall smashed the entire refugee camp to pieces.
The previous rampage by the gorilla Grodd had already made life even more difficult for Africa, which was already in a precarious situation, and the protection of the Kryptonians could not change everything in the short term.
Most of the refugees gathered in the camp were people who had lost everything. They lived numbly here, relying solely on outside aid and assistance to survive.
Even though this group of people dumped all kinds of garbage off the coastline every day, the Sea King, who had once been heartless towards land dwellers, never came to criticize them in the slightest.
Shazam's unexpected landing brought these people even more misfortune.
Shazam, who had not yet gotten up, heard the mournful cries, groans and sobs coming from all around him, and at that moment he felt only self-reproach.
But before he could get up and help, Black Adam rushed over from the distant horizon and slammed Shazam back to the ground with a punch.
Along with the fist came Black Adam's furious roar: "Look what you've done!"
The lands along the Nile were Black Adam's homeland. Although things have changed a thousand years later, it doesn't stop Black Adam from having feelings for the people of this land.
Shazam's crash caused such a large number of casualties that Black Adam's rage burned fiercely.
A barrage of punches rained down on Shazam, who could only passively defend against the enraged Black Adam.
Shazam knew that the impact of a single counterattack would be enough to destroy the entire refugee camp.
Therefore, he could only let the other party throw punches for the time being, and dared not make any move to retaliate.
As for Black Adam's accusation that Shazam himself caused harm to the refugee camp, Shazam's Solomon wisdom has already found a very reasonable evaluation of this accusation:
This idiot has gone mad.
This is not surprising, though. Anyone who has been sealed away in darkness for hundreds or thousands of years would likely have an unstable mental state.
Black Adam pinned Shazam down and continued his frenzied attack, which lasted for an unknown amount of time until a nearby pebble interrupted him.
"Fuck you, you bad guy! Take your dirty hands off our hero!"
Black Adam punched Shazam again before turning around and seeing that the person who threw the stone at him was just a skinny local kid.
"I'm not a bad person! I used to be your protector!"
Black Adam would not accept such accusations, especially those coming from his own people. Veins bulged on his forehead as he roared at the child:
"You little brat, you know nothing. He's the wizard's lackey and puppet. I'm the one who swore an oath to protect you, your hero!"
The child, frail from hunger, swayed, and Black Adam's roar nearly knocked him to the ground like a reed in a storm.
But the thin child still bent down and picked up another pebble, as if afraid he wasn't strong enough, and walked closer to Black Adam before throwing it.
"I saw him on the news at the camp. He's a hero who's with Superman. Superman ended the war and saved us!"
The pebble struck Black Adam precisely on the head once again, but this pebble couldn't harm him in the slightest. What truly hurt was the words that followed:
"And you did nothing but attack Superman's comrades, causing such heavy casualties to the camp. You're no hero!"
Black Adam, ignoring Shazam who was already bleeding from his head, stood up and walked towards the child, reaching out his hand to try and explain things clearly:
"No, that's not it! I..."
The child's mother, dragging her injured right leg, rushed over, kneeling and nearly falling to the ground to shield her child behind her. Her already worn clothes became even more tattered and filthy.
"Please have mercy and spare our lives! My child, he didn't mean to do that!"
The rules of survival in Africa are different from those elsewhere; perhaps in other places, resistance can allow people to live with more dignity.
But in Africa, no one possesses the power to resist external oppression. Kneeling and begging for mercy for one's own survival, though shameful, is the norm.
Faced with the child's mother's pleas, Black Adam, having calmed down, finally saw clearly that the right hand he had extended towards her was a hand stained with blood.
Black Adam's breathing became rapid, and he finally remembered why Shazam had fallen to this place.
It was caused by his own reckless attack.
When Black Adam first broke the seal and reappeared in the world, he only wanted to seek revenge on Shazam, the next representative of wizards.
It was just an outlet for his anger at being imprisoned for a thousand years.
He never expected it to turn out this way.
"That kid's right, you're a damn hero."
Shazam wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and climbed out of the deep crater where Black Adam's hammer had struck him:
"What happened at this camp was indeed my fault. I was wrong to act impulsively from the start, just like you."
Shazam walked towards the nearest wounded person, completely disregarding the fact that he was now exposing his entire back to Black Adam, a deadly enemy.
"I shouldn't have been angry. I should have asked Superman to join the fight and snap your neck right there and then."
Atlas's stamina allowed Shazam's wounds to heal rapidly, but even so, it still took some time.
The scales of victory have tipped in Black Adam's favor. If Black Adam continues his attack relentlessly, the outcome will soon be decided.
But Shazam knew the battle was over, and the final result was that he won and Black Adam lost.
Black Adam stood there blankly, facing the fearful gazes of everyone in the camp, staring at his blood-stained hands.
He truly was the protector of all the people living on this land thousands of years ago.
But what exactly is this so-called "guardian" protecting?
Shazam carefully transported the wounded from the camp to different medical support points in the surrounding area.
The refugee camp was already densely populated, and the impact of his landing caused a considerable number of casualties.
He did this to prevent medical institutions from becoming overloaded in a short period of time, ensuring that everyone could receive timely treatment.
Shazam, who had been carrying dozens of people back and forth, turned to look at Black Adam. The person speaking now was Billy Batson:
"Are you just going to stand there like that?"
Tess Adam used his divine power to burn away the blood on his hands, and under the fearful gazes of the crowd, joined Shazam's operation:
"I was merely fulfilling my duty as a guardian; that doesn't mean my feud with you wizards is over!"
"That's what the wizard Shazam thought too."
The battle is over, and the now enthusiastic Billy Batson has taken control of Shazam's consciousness:
"He told me he's going to lock you up in jail with Superman in a little while!"
"Well... I think what he told you was what was on his mind, and he shouldn't have said it directly."
Hearing Shazam's words, Black Adam realized that this generation of Shazam might not have unified his wizarding and ego consciousness like he had.
Thinking about this made his hatred for Shazam less intense.
"After you said it, I heard that you might run away."
"ah?!"
Billy then belatedly realized what was happening and nervously looked at Black Adam:
"What should we do then? Are you really going to run away? You, you, you absolutely mustn't use the wounded as leverage to distract me and then just run away!"
Both of them are currently in the air holding the wounded soldier. What if Black Adam were to abandon the wounded soldier mid-flight and choose to escape?
Billy didn't even dare to think about how to stop him.
"Don't act like a fool!"
Black Adam, seeing the foolishness this generation of Shazam was displaying, originally wanted to burst out laughing.
It's laughable that Shazam the wizard has no successor; the successor he chose this time is either not very bright or is just a child.
But he couldn't smile at all, because the woman he was holding in his arms was the same mother who had just protected her child.
Upon hearing Billy's words, she gripped the corner of Black Adam's cloak even tighter, and Black Adam could sense a hint of despair in that grip.
The people that Black Adam once swore to protect now truly believe that he could do such a despicable and shameless thing.
He whispered a promise: "I won't do such a thing, you can rest assured."
Billy nodded thankfully, "Oh, that's good!"
In return, Black Adam responded with even more merciless mockery:
"I'm not talking to you, you idiot!"
