068 The War of Women
068 The War of Women
"I asked Ling to ask Lu Mingfei if he wants to join the student council."
Caesar originally planned to take Nono back to the girls' dormitory, but when they passed the playground, Nono suddenly wanted to run a few laps on the track, so Caesar had no choice but to accompany her for a walk.
"Why not just ask Lu Mingfei?" Caesar said.
"We can't find him," Nono said helplessly. "He's really good at hiding. It's not easy to talk to an S-class person alone now."
"Is he avoiding you?" Caesar asked.
"He avoids everyone," Nono said. "If Zero hadn't dragged him out recently, he would have been growing mushrooms in his dorm room by now."
Caesar didn't reply. The night wind blew in from the playground, carrying the smell of grass and earth.
"By the way," Nono suddenly asked, "what were you and Chu Zihang secretly talking about when you sent Susie and me away last time?"
"Chu Zihang has a problem with the braised pork in the cafeteria," Caesar replied calmly. "He thinks it's a bit too salty."
"Mmm," Nono replied.
"Because Chu Zihang is from southern China, he prefers lighter flavors," Caesar added, "and he's not used to the food here."
"Mmm." Nono hummed in response, her eyes fixed straight ahead.
Caesar suddenly realized that this moment was just like that moment before.
Last time in the conference room, when Chu Zihang started with braised pork, this was the same perfunctory way he was being dismissed.
The two walked along the outer edge of the playground for a while without saying a word.
Caesar had been wanting to ask Nono something, but he didn't know how to bring it up.
He suddenly remembered Chu Zihang's actions.
We started by talking about braised pork, then moved on to earrings, subtly getting closer to the real issue.
At the time, Caesar thought this approach was both stupid and slow, but now he understands, and Caesar has decided to copy Chu Zihang's homework.
"When Lu Mingfei was in the dormitory, he was always playing King of Fighters with Fingel," Caesar said.
Nono glanced at him.
"It's said that this is the secret to S-level reaction speed training. Now Fingel is leading the news department in a training session, saying it's to train their snapshot speed. Lu Mingfei's influence is truly immense," Caesar continued.
"Caesar," Nono interrupted him.
"Um."
"Just say what you have to say."
Caesar stopped and looked at Nono.
He had said the exact same thing to Chu Zihang in the conference room, and now Nuonuo had thrown those words back at him verbatim. He suddenly realized that he had wronged Chu Zihang's good intentions last time.
"What's the reason for your interest in Lu Mingfei?" Caesar asked.
"You're worrying about this?" Nono laughed and said, "Caesar, your kind of domineering CEO/rich young master persona isn't popular anymore, you know?"
"That kind of shabby little puppy, like Lu Mingfei, is the most lethal. He's obviously very capable, but there's always something hidden in his eyes, like he might break at any moment. When women see that kind of image, their hearts melt, their maternal instincts overflow, and they can't help but want to pick him up, fix him, and give him a hug," Nuonuo teased.
"You want to be his mother?" Caesar was, after all, a foreigner, and this passage contained too many metaphors, so he could only understand it literally.
Nono laughed heartily and pointed ahead.
"Just kidding. Besides, Lu Mingfei already has a mother. If I were to join him, I'd only be a wicked stepmother."
Caesar looked in the direction she was pointing.
Three people were standing under the streetlight ahead. The shorter one was standing next to the taller one, talking to a dark figure.
The figure in black was Chu Zihang. He seemed to have just finished a conversation and was turning to walk towards his dormitory.
Chu Zihang saw Caesar and Nono and nodded to them.
Caesar nodded back. There was no need for further communication between the two. He felt that after this conversation, he and Chu Zihang had developed a greater understanding.
Chu Zihang didn't understand the look in Caesar's eyes, so he turned around and left. Caesar and Nono walked towards Lu Mingfei and Zero.
"Lu Mingfei," Caesar spoke first.
"Caesar." Lu Mingfei turned around, saw Nono beside Caesar, and added, "Nono, are you taking a walk too?"
"Yeah, but we can't catch you when we come for a walk," Nono said.
"Haha, what a coincidence!"
"Have you ever considered joining the student council?" Caesar asked.
"Senior Brother Chu just invited me to join the Lionheart Society. Is this playground a recruitment site today?" Lu Mingfei said, both amused and exasperated.
"Joining the Lionheart is also good," Caesar said, maintaining his composure. "I'm also happy to have a formidable opponent."
"I'll think about it..."
"No rush."
The four of them walked towards the dormitory, with Caesar and Nono on the left and Lu Mingfei and Zero on the right.
Nono turned her head to look at Lu Mingfei and said, "I haven't been staying in the dorm lately, I've started going out for walks, that's good."
"I brought him out," Zero said.
Nono looked at Zero, "I know."
The air suddenly fell silent. Lu Mingfei and Caesar sensed an ominous atmosphere. They walked silently with the two women without saying a word.
The two boys' eyes met simultaneously. Caesar saw an emotion in Lu Mingfei's eyes that he was very familiar with, and Lu Mingfei saw the same thing in Caesar's eyes.
Don't let them fight!
Now that things had come to this, Lu Mingfei swallowed hard, preparing to start a conversation to ease the tension.
For example, he recently heard Fingel complain that the braised pork in the cafeteria was too salty, as if the German chef was using the method for making German pork knuckle to make the braised pork, which made the dish lose its soul.
Before Lu Mingfei could even gather his emotions, Nuonuo broke the silence, saying, "The girls' dormitory is just ahead. I'll go back with Ling; you don't need to see me off."
Ling glanced at Lu Mingfei and nodded.
The two girls walked side by side toward the dormitory building. Nuonuo's ponytail swung high, and her walking posture was as casual as if she were running. Ling walked beside her, taking smaller steps and walking at a faster pace. The two were an arm's length apart, neither too close nor too far.
Caesar and Lu Mingfei stood there, watching their figures disappear into the lights at the dormitory entrance.
The two looked at each other.
Caesar saw the relief of surviving a disaster on Lu Mingfei's face, and Lu Mingfei saw the exact same relief on Caesar's face.
"The war of women," Caesar whispered.
"More terrifying than the Dragon King," Lu Mingfei said.
Caesar nodded in agreement and said, "They're fighting over you."
"Compete against me? Compete against me for what?" Lu Mingfei was a little confused.
"I'm going to fight for your custody," Caesar said earnestly.
"Huh? Brother Caesar, what are you saying? What kind of Chinese is this? I don't understand it at all." Lu Mingfei was shocked. He wasn't sure if what he heard meant what he thought it meant.
In short, no matter which meaning it has, it doesn't make sense!
"This is a popular type of romantic relationship these days," Caesar said.
"A romantic...relationship?"
"Lu Mingfei," Caesar sighed helplessly, "Nono likes you."
