Chapter 2 The Lying Mirror and the Talking Parrot
Chapter 2 The Lying Mirror and the Talking Parrot
"Squeak~"
The next day, the library doors were opened again.
Brianna stood in front of the registration counter, clutching the copy of "Omiros Riddle's Notebook".
She frowned slightly, gently bit her lower lip, and looked troubled.
"How may I help you, Miss Pierre?"
Aaron placed his hands on his chest and bowed as he had yesterday to inquire.
"I tried to read this book, but... I couldn't understand a thing!"
Aaron was speechless upon hearing this.
Is this a pace where I have to teach myself?
So he mentally shouted "I need more money!" to the cheat system, but unfortunately, he received no response.
Well then, I guess I'll just have to put in more work for nothing.
Aaron had carefully studied all the books in the library. Although he could not use the power contained in the forbidden books, in theory, there were very few people in the world who could surpass him.
From this perspective, Aaron is indeed the most suitable teacher.
However, if you're teaching from scratch, it's still helpful to have two reference books to speed up the process.
So he said to Brianna, "Miss Pierre, please wait a moment."
Aaron then went to find suitable reference books.
As the title suggests, "The Notebooks of Omiros Riddell" is someone's notebook.
Omiros Riddle was a female sorceress active during the First Men era, skilled in the use of curses.
This notebook records all the curse magic she developed, as well as theories on how to deconstruct other curses and develop new ones.
Therefore, to understand this book, one must understand what witchcraft and curses are.
Aaron went down to the basement again and took two books from a bookshelf:
"Basics of Witchcraft", "The Curse Manual from Beginner to Expert".
Then, they returned to the lobby on the first floor.
Compared to other floors, the first floor of the Forbidden Books Library has far fewer bookshelves and books.
This mainly includes the library's catalog, historical borrowing records, library history, and related books on mythology, legends, and ancient people's history, unofficial history, culture, poetry, and letters.
The books on these floors are far less important and dangerous than those on other floors.
Besides these, there were other items in the hall.
A registration counter, several teak tables and wide benches, Aaron's bed (covered by curtains), a full-length mirror and a parrot stand, and some other insignificant items.
Incidentally, books and fire are enemies, so there is no kitchen in the library, and the toilet is on the rooftop balcony.
Back in the hall, Aaron saw Brianna standing in front of the full-length mirror, striking poses.
Perhaps hearing Aaron's footsteps, Brianna asked directly without turning around as Aaron approached:
"Seventy-three, do I look very sloppy like this?"
Brianna looked exactly the same as yesterday; it seemed she hadn't even washed her face all day.
"I think you're very cute."
Aaron was speaking from the heart, but that was irrelevant; he was more concerned with something else right now.
"Miss Pierre, I should have told you before, my name is Aaron Mosley."
"But you are the seventy-third generation."
Aaron couldn't refute this, because it was a setting he himself promoted.
"If you really don't want to call me by my name, you can call me brother."
To everyone's surprise, Brianna rolled her eyes at Aaron upon hearing this, staring at him with disdain:
"You actually want a little girl to call you 'brother' affectionately? What a perverted old man!"
Although Aaron's actual age could be enough to be Brianna's ancestor, his physical age was less than twenty-one.
In particular, he is quite confident, or rather proud, of his current appearance.
When Aaron heard Brianna describe him as an "old man," he considered kicking Brianna out of the library.
In the end, I calmed down and didn't do it, perhaps because I was more concerned about the shoes.
Aaron decided not to stoop to the level of a little girl.
So he grabbed Brianna by the back of her collar and threw her onto the stool behind the teak table:
"No food allowed if you can't accurately explain the basic definitions of witchcraft and curses today!"
"Eh!!"
……
The next day, Brianna stood in front of the mirror again.
Her skin looks much cleaner today; she must have taken a shower last night.
"I never expected there to be mirrors in the library," Brianna murmured.
Aaron looked into the mirror and could see Brianna's face clearly.
"But it is a lying mirror."
"I think so too. I should look better."
Aaron turned to look directly at Brianna, and he immediately understood that Brianna had misunderstood the mirror; it was her tattered clothes that had affected her appearance.
However, Aaron felt it was better to wait until she discovered it herself, so he clapped his hands and walked towards the table:
"Alright, class is starting!"
Actually, if Brianna were to study those two reference books on her own, she should be able to learn it too; it would just take a little more time.
But if another chosen one comes to the library and happens to be the right one for those two books, it would be terrible if Aaron couldn't produce them.
Therefore, he would never lend out these two books!
Since Brianna has come to the library, Aaron might as well teach her himself, since he's got nothing better to do anyway.
The course starts in the morning and ends in the evening, with a one-hour break at noon.
Brianna didn't complain at all. After class, she took her notebook and left the library.
She had just left when a parrot landed on its perch by the window.
This is a pheasant with colorful feathers that are very beautiful.
Every now and then it would land in the library and tell Aaron what it had heard in those days.
This was Aaron's main means of obtaining information from the outside world while he lived in the library, so Aaron called it a "radio".
By the way, this is radio number seventy-three.
Although the pheasant is a rare bird and has a longer lifespan than most birds, it cannot live forever.
Aaron decided when to lower his generation in the public eye based on the replacement of his radio.
That night, the radio only broadcast five stories about infidelity, and the rest were mostly useless information.
But one piece of news made Aaron somewhat concerned.
The Earl of Lorraine Plains is offering a large reward for information leading to the disappearance of his daughter.
After about half a year, Brianna came to Aaron's place for lessons every day.
Aside from course-related content, the two rarely discussed other topics.
But even such a tedious conversation was full of fun for Aaron, who spent a lot of time alone.
From this perspective, Aaron was truly grateful to Brianna.
Aaron tried several more times to get Brianna to change how she addressed him, but all attempts failed, and the matter was never brought up again.
One day, Brianna finally realized that her dress was too tattered, and from then on, she always wore the clothes of a common girl.
As for asking Aaron to evaluate her appearance, that was also discarded along with the aristocratic dress she had worn earlier.
However, Aaron could vaguely sense that Brianna seemed to be secretly competing with something.
One day, Brianna encountered a problem in her studies.
