Chapter 49 Old Neil's Arrest
Chapter 49 Old Neil's Arrest
Inside the Tinggen Circus.
"Boss, are you alright?" The Joker asked with concern, looking at the Magician's body wrapped in bandages.
Seeing his subordinates' concern for him, the magician's lips curled up slightly, but he quickly became serious again and said in a deep voice.
"I'm fine, how are you?"
"I suffered a minor injury, it's already been treated," the clown forced a smile.
The magician nodded and then asked, "What about the other two?"
"They were exhausted this time and have gone to rest. Should I go and call them?"
"No need," the magician said, shaking his head gently.
He was always very tolerant of his hardworking subordinates.
After a moment of silence.
"Everyone should keep a low profile these next few days," the magician instructed.
"Don't wait any longer, boss. Could we already be being watched by the authorities?"
Seeing his subordinates' flustered appearance, the magician pressed the tic mark on his forehead and said:
"After I came back, I did a divination. The situation is still under control. We have also taken appropriate precautions, so we shouldn't be exposed directly."
"That witch named Sharon is dead too. She was probably caught by the Night Watchers."
"How about it? You've gotten your revenge, aren't you happy?"
Upon hearing this, the clown did not show much joy at having avenged his great enemy; instead, he looked worried.
"Just hang in there a few more days, and our mission will be over. Then we can leave," the magician said, trying to comfort his subordinates who were worried.
"But..." The clown was about to say something when the magician interrupted him.
"With me here, what are you panicking for!"
……
Two days later
Acting Captain Frye's temporary office.
"Please come in."
"Frye, you wanted to see me?" Klein pushed open the door and walked in.
"Yes, please sit down."
Klein pulled out a chair and sat down.
"How's your injury?" Fry asked with concern.
"Fortunately, they are just some simple abrasions and nothing serious."
Seeing that Klein looked well, Frye pondered for a moment before speaking.
"The ingredients for the 'Clown' potion have arrived."
"Really? It's so fast." Klein was a little surprised; his approval had only come a few days ago.
"Actually, it was sent from the church yesterday, but..."
Frye's tone was somewhat conflicted.
"If it's something I can't say, you don't have to tell me," Klein said kindly, noticing the hesitation in the other person's expression.
"No, it's really not a big deal."
"The captain gave me some instructions before he went to Backlund."
He said you've mastered potions too quickly, and he's a little worried. He hopes you can wait until he returns from Backlund before advancing in your career.
"The captain is just worried about me." Klein nodded.
Frye glanced at Klein and continued:
"But you are aware of the current situation."
Cohenley is injured and unable to work for the time being; the captain and Ms. Daly are both unavailable…
We urgently need to strengthen our capabilities.
"Do you think you're in a good position for a promotion?" Frye asked Klein.
"It should be possible, but..." With the promotion opportunity right in front of him, Klein really didn't want to give it up, but after hearing what the other party said, he actually had some concerns.
After a few seconds of silence, he asked Frye:
"May I leave to have my fortune told?"
"Of course." Frye nodded.
A few minutes later, Klein returned to his office after completing his divination above the gray fog.
"The divination results tell me that I'm eligible for a promotion."
"Um."
Fry bent down and pulled a white box from under the desk.
"All the materials are in here."
He handed the box to Klein.
"Old Neil will be on duty soon. Do you need his help?"
When it comes to concocting potions and various elixirs, no one in the Night Watch squad can compare to Old Neil, the "Secret Seeker."
"No need, I can do it myself. Old Neil taught me how to concoct potions before." Klein shook his head slightly, not wanting to trouble his teammates.
……
After Klein left.
Fry lowered his head and continued writing his report.
"Frye, something bad has happened!" Rosanne suddenly opened the office door with a look of anxiety on her face.
"What's wrong?" Seeing Rosanne's anxious look, Fry suddenly had a bad feeling.
"Old Neil, he... he was kidnapped by the Punisher's men on his way to the company..."
"What?!"
……
In the basement, Klein was tinkering with the "Clown" potion.
He opened the white box and saw the densely packed materials inside.
Among them, the most eye-catching is a palm-sized gray ram's horn with layers of peculiar patterns faintly visible inside.
Beside the ram's horn was a blue rose with peculiar patterns on its petals that seemed to transform into a grinning human face.
A single crystallized horn from an adult Hornachis Grey Goat, a complete rose with a human face.
"That's right..." Klein nodded.
Following the method taught by Old Neil, Klein easily completed the preparation of the potion.
Looking at the potion before him, Klein picked up the pendulum and silently chanted:
"This potion is harmful."
"This potion is harmful."
After seven times.
Seeing that the divination result was normal, Klein no longer hesitated, raised the cup, held his breath, and gulped down the potion.
……
Klein was in a good mood after successfully being promoted to "The Joker," but strangely, Frye had disappeared from the office.
"Rosanne, what happened?" Klein asked Rosanne, who looked unwell.
"Klein, something bad has happened! Old Neil has been captured."
"What!" Klein was shocked.
"Who arrested him?"
"The one who takes the punishment," Rosanne replied.
Klein was somewhat taken aback: "Why? They shouldn't have the right to arrest Night Watchers, right? Has Old Neil lost control?"
"No, no, they say Old Neil is researching dark magic."
"Dark magic?" Klein was somewhat surprised; he couldn't believe that Old Neil would do such a thing.
Could it be that the magic Old Neil used to pay off his debts has malfunctioned?
For some reason, he suddenly had a bad feeling.
……
……
Inside the carriage,
Old Neil sat silently at the very back, his face looking quite grim.
Fry wanted to say something, but seeing the other scapegoats beside him, he swallowed his words.
As the acting team leader, he couldn't hand over his teammates.
But the scapegoats said they had received a tip and had solid evidence that Old Neil was researching black magic.
After some negotiation, Frye decided to accompany Old Neil to his house to see the so-called evidence.
He initially thought it was just a misunderstanding. As Old Neil's teammate, he knew that Old Neil usually liked to study some strange ritual magic.
Perhaps the one administering the punishment made a mistake? Mistaking those strange rituals for black magic?
Just like the ritual Old Neil used to pay off his debts.
But reality shattered his hopes. When he arrived at Old Neil's doorstep and saw the pained expression on Old Neil's face, Frye knew that things were not as simple as a misunderstanding.
