Chapter 6: Dragon Slayer Mage
Chapter 6: Dragon Slayer Mage
Ignoring Macao and Wakaba, who had started fighting, Moen greeted his other companions and then went to the back of the guild hall building, a large open space specifically reserved for mages to practice magic.
"boom!"
On the open ground, a burst of lightning and thunder roared, and violent magical power surged. A tall and strong figure stood amidst the raging lightning.
"It's Laxus..."
Seeing the figure amidst the lightning, Moen naturally recognized him; it was none other than his older brother Laxus, with whom he had just had a falling out at home.
Laxus uses "Dragon Slayer Magic," specifically "Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic." This magic originates from the "Dragon Slayer Crystal" within his body, and he did not learn it from a dragon.
The "Dragon Slayer Crystal" is extremely precious and a rare find, and implanting it into the body is a very dangerous act.
Laxus took the risk of implanting the "Dragon Slayer Crystal" because his weak body could not withstand the powerful magic inherited from Makarov, which made him very weak. Although implanting the "Dragon Slayer Crystal" was a risky gamble, it was something he had to do. Fortunately, he succeeded in the end, otherwise Grandpa Makarov would have regretted it for the rest of his life.
What happened to Laxus proves that sometimes having too much magical talent isn't necessarily a good thing, because your body might not be able to handle it, and the consequences could be terrible. After all, not everyone can implant a "Dragon Slayer Crystal" like Laxus to enhance their physical abilities.
Laxus's current terrible personality is actually closely related to this incident.
The "Dragon Slayer Crystal" that changed Laxus's fate was purchased at a high price by his father, Ivan Dreyar, but Ivan Dreyar was expelled from Fairy Tail.
This was incomprehensible and quite dissatisfying to Laxus, because Grandpa Makarov had not given a sufficiently convincing reason.
In fact, Moen didn't quite understand the matter either. Although in his impression Ivan Doraeus was not a good person, it felt a bit far-fetched to expel him completely on the grounds of "endangering the guild's safety." Perhaps there were some things that they didn't know about.
"Sizzle!"
The lightning subsided, and Laxus turned to look at Moen.
"Moen, I heard you defeated someone who used dragon-slaying magic?"
Surprisingly, Laxus took the initiative to speak to Moen. This older brother, who was going through a rebellious phase of adolescence, had never taken the initiative to communicate with others before. He was immersed in his own world and wished he could be at odds with the whole world, which was indeed in line with the characteristics of a rebellious teenager.
"Wait... how did you all know? This shouldn't be a big deal, right?"
Moen was a little surprised. He had only beaten Natsu down, so why were so many people paying attention? Did Natsu have some kind of protagonist aura?
"Where did he get his dragon-slaying magic?"
Laxus ignored Moen's question and continued to ask himself. What he cared about was that this guy named Natsu was the first "Dragon Slayer Mage" he had encountered.
When Natsu joined Fairy Tail, Laxus was out on a mission and hasn't seen Natsu since.
He said his father taught him.
Moen answered calmly.
"what?"
Laxus looked bewildered, clearly not quite understanding. He was thinking, "Dragon Slayer Magic can actually be passed down in a family?"
He said his dad was a fire dragon.
Moen continued speaking, and his words stunned Laxus.
"Fire...fire dragon?"
Laxus was skeptical, his fierce face now displaying a simple, honest expression, as if he were seriously considering the possibility.
"There are two possibilities: one, he really has mental problems; two, he really did grow up with a fire-breathing dragon from a young age, and that dragon even taught him dragon-slaying magic. Which possibility do you think is more likely?"
Moen rubbed his temples and asked Laxus, but upon closer examination, the second possibility wasn't entirely out of the question.
The most important point is that Moen finds it hard to believe that Natsu, an orphan who appeared out of nowhere and can't even explain his own origins, would have a "Dragon Slayer Crystal" inside him.
The "Dragon Slayer Crystal" is not easy to obtain, and if you do get it, you will definitely cherish it. If it is given to Natsu, how can you let Natsu run around outside like a wild man?
"Do dragons... really still exist?"
Laxus was somewhat lost in thought. Although he had learned "Dragon Slayer Magic," he still had doubts about whether dragons truly existed in this era; at least no one had ever actually seen one.
"It would be more fun if dragons actually existed! I've heard dragons love to collect treasures. If we could defeat an evil dragon, wouldn't we be rich? We wouldn't have to do any more commissions!"
Moen chuckled and joked. He hadn't watched the anime, so of course he didn't know if dragons really existed. He was just joking around. If dragons really did exist, Moen would really like to become a dragon slayer.
With cheat codes already available, do you really lack the courage to slay a dragon?
"snort."
Upon hearing Moen's words, Laxus snorted coldly, his expression turning somewhat indifferent. He then left without a word, as if he had suddenly realized that he hadn't managed to maintain his tough image.
"???"
Seeing this, Mo En was completely baffled. They were just chatting and laughing together, how could he suddenly turn on him like that? Did he say something wrong?
These problem children and problem youths are indeed all a handful.
"Bang!"
"Pfft!"
Laxus had just turned to leave when a figure rushed over and crashed straight into him.
This time, Laxus was prepared. He didn't move an inch, while the child who bumped into him fell to the ground.
Laxus's tall figure completely overshadowed the child. When he looked down, the first thing he saw was a head of cherry-pink hair.
"Natsu?! You woke up so quickly?!"
Moen peered at the boy and immediately recognized him – wasn't this the "Fire Dragon" Natsu that he had knocked unconscious?
The physical resilience granted by this "Dragon Slayer Magic" is incredible; Natsu has now become energetic and lively again.
"Oh? You're the Dragon Slayer mage who was defeated by Moen?"
Upon hearing Natsu's name, Laxus narrowed his eyes, bent down, and looked fiercely at the somewhat bewildered Natsu.
"To think he's such a piece of trash, he's a disgrace to Dragon Slayer Mages."
Laxus looked somewhat disappointed. This guy in front of him seemed rather dim-witted and didn't look like someone who could become a strong person.
