Chapter 23 The Trail of the Serpent Talisman
Chapter 23 The Trail of the Serpent Talisman
"What's the situation now?"
"I don't know. It's said there's a mole within the bureau, and now every department is being investigated."
"A mole? How could there be one within the bureau?"
……
A row of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are discussing outside the interrogation room.
Natasha glanced at the time; there were still ten minutes until the re-brainwashing equipment was fully adjusted.
Tony, seeing Natasha's serious expression, didn't know what to say and communicated with the ninjas outside the room.
Through communication with the ninjas outside, Tony's lips curled up imperceptibly.
There really is something going on within S.H.I.E.L.D. When they learned that they were going to investigate the mole, some people actually panicked. It was truly a case of blind luck.
According to the ninja's message, there is a suspicious agent within S.H.I.E.L.D. whose movements are suspicious. The ninja had previously followed this person, but lost track of him.
The Holy Lord was well aware of the Shadow Legion's strength; the fact that they were able to shake off the ninjas meant they were definitely not ordinary people.
Sure enough, the ninja made a new discovery during their investigation: the agent could become invisible.
After each shift change, the agent would go to a secluded place and disappear. Now, he is among the group of people outside the interrogation room.
"I'll go outside and take a look, and maybe calm them down," Tony said to Natasha, ignoring her reaction, and walked straight out of the interrogation room.
Natasha glanced at "Tony" but ignored him. Anyway, the interrogation was about to start, and she didn't believe he would cause any trouble.
Tony arrived at the interrogation room door and walked past the agents one by one: "Gentlemen, don't be nervous, it's just a simple interrogation."
"take it easy."
Tony deliberately stopped in front of an agent and put his hand on the agent's shoulder.
"Mr. Stark, thanks for the reminder, but it probably won't do me any good." The other person shrugged, looking nonchalant.
Tony ignored him. He had just confirmed that the other person had the aura of the Snake Talisman, but it was very faint, so the Snake Talisman was obviously not on his person at the moment.
"Line up, one at a time."
The equipment had been tested and ready, and Steve gestured to the agents at the door to get them ready.
Tony returned to the interrogation room and listened to Natasha interrogate the people without interrupting, until the agent he had been watching earlier appeared in the interrogation room.
"Name." Natasha's voice was devoid of any emotion.
"Glen Pete." The agent's tone was also indifferent.
"age."
"30".
"Have you noticed anything unusual during your patrols recently?"
"No, everything is normal."
Natasha stared into the other person's eyes, trying to find some flaw in their micro-expressions.
It was flawless.
"Okay, go over there and put that machine on your head." Natasha pointed to the brainwashing machine next to her.
The agent had just stood up when "Tony" stopped him: "Stop! Don't use it yet, I need to ask you some questions first."
Tony walked up to the agent and pressed his face against his; in Natasha's eyes, their relationship was now somewhat ambiguous.
"Agent Glenn, we meet again."
Glenn's brain suddenly went blank. What was this person trying to do? They had met for the first time outside the interrogation room just half an hour ago, so why was he acting like they knew each other so well now?
"Yes, we meet again, Mr. Stark." Glenn gave an awkward smile, trying his best to act as if he knew Tony well.
"Did you know each other before?" Steve asked from the side.
"Yes, I've heard of his legend. I paid him a special visit outside just now," Tony said, looking at Glenn sitting in the interrogation chair. "Right, Agent Glenn?"
Glenn nodded; he had no other choice at the moment.
"A legend?" Natasha became interested. Tony's behavior had been strange before, so he probably wouldn't bring this up for no reason.
"Yes, it's a legend that sounds unbelievable."
Tony made an exaggerated expression and spread his arms wide: "Have you ever heard of invisibility?"
Glenn's expression subtly changed as he listened to "Tony's" words, but he quickly returned to normal.
However, Natasha noticed this change, even though it was only for a moment.
"Invisibility? Is that really an ability?" Natasha countered playfully.
Tony waved his hand, feigning indifference: "Who knows? It's just a rumor, after all, right, Agent Glenn?"
Tony held down the sides of the interrogation chair, his cheeks constantly moving closer to Glenn's.
The lights in the interrogation room suddenly went out. This interrogation room, which was normally completely sealed off to conceal the brainwashing, was now pitch black.
"What's going on!"
Natasha's voice came from the darkness immediately, accompanied by a beam of bright light illuminating the interrogation room.
The blinding beam of light made Tony squint: "Natasha, you're not going to carry around a super-powerful flashlight all the time, are you?!"
Natasha ignored "Tony's" teasing; her gaze was fixed on the interrogation chair, which was now empty!
"Where is everyone?!" Natasha shone her powerful flashlight around.
Steve reacted immediately, pressing his back against the interrogation room door. If the other party could really be invisible, the interrogation room door was still closed, and Glenn must still be in the room.
The power outage did not last long, and power was quickly restored to the interrogation room.
Natasha looked at the interrogation chair again to confirm that it was empty.
Tony realized what was happening and threw a punch at the chair, but missed.
"It seems the legend of invisibility is true."
"Tony" muttered to himself, deliberately raising his voice so that Natasha and the other woman could hear him clearly.
"You already knew who was the problem within S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Natasha asked.
Tony waved his hand: "Pretty much, after all, it's quite easy for my drones to monitor the perimeter of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Since you knew all along, why didn't you capture Glenn from the beginning?" Natasha continued to ask.
Tony looked at the empty interrogation chair: "There's definitely more than one mole in S.H.I.E.L.D. Given the agency's security measures, there must be multiple people looking out for each other."
Steve remained firmly against the door, shield raised to his chest to guard against a sudden attack from the invisible figures inside: "So you're actually planning to use this opportunity to lure them all out?"
"That's true." Tony acknowledged Steve's guess.
Natasha glanced around the interrogation room: "Looks like you've gone too far."
"That's not entirely true. At least we've confirmed that they can become invisible, and there's more than one of them, plus there's still someone in the room right now."
Tony paused for a moment, then said, "I think it won't be difficult to catch him in this confined space."
"That's one way to put it, but we can't be careless. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents' uniforms contain knives, and we can't guarantee that they won't suddenly stab us from some direction," Natasha said seriously.
boom!
A crisp sound rang out from outside the door, followed by Steve gasping for breath.
A dart pierced the lock cylinder and struck Steve's arm.
Steve winced in pain and loosened his grip on the door, only to feel a tremendous force come from the door and knock him flying.
When he got up and looked outside, he found only the agents queuing up.
"It's the person who was supposed to meet him." Steve stared wide-eyed at the dart on his arm; the last time he'd seen it was at Stark Tower.
He gave "Tony" a look that made it clear: "You're right."
Tony nodded and hid a small box in his sleeve, inside which was an ant.
