Chapter 579 Divination Lessons and Crystal Balls
On the first day of the summer term, Hogwarts enjoyed a rare good day. The morning sky was a clear, misty pinkish-blue, which put everyone in a good mood.
But it would be even better if the first class in the morning wasn't History of Magic.
The professor in this class was a ghost; his voice was completely flat and monotone. Although most students wanted to take good notes before the exam, they would often fall asleep within minutes.
Hermione is probably the only one who could stay focused throughout the entire history of magic, which is why her notes on the history of magic have always been highly sought after by students.
After the history of magic comes Potions class.
Ever since Snape kicked Harry out of his office, he's treated Harry like he doesn't exist.
Siren noticed that Snape hadn't said a single word to Harry during the entire two Potions classes. Even his usual sarcastic remarks and sarcasm had vanished, as if Snape hadn't been in the classroom at all.
But it's hard to say whether this deliberate neglect was a punishment or a reward for Harry.
Without Snape's interference, Harry managed to brew a pot of vitality tonic without any problems.
Although it's not a standard "bright, sun-like fiery red," it's still a standard orange-red.
Siren had seen this color of vitality supplement in the potions shop in Diagon Alley, but it was relatively cheaper and was one of the most popular products in the discount section.
This made Harry extremely happy.
"I really hope Snape can keep ignoring me like this." After leaving the underground classroom, he said happily to Siron, "I hope it continues until the end of fifth year, and then I can finally get rid of Potions class completely after sixth year."
"Have you thought it through?" Xilun asked.
"Of course, I've been looking forward to this day for many years," Harry said.
"Me too." Ron next to him nodded vigorously. "I'd give up Potions class for anything."
"Don't jump to conclusions so quickly. It's best to wait until you've completed your career guidance before making any decisions."
Siren cautioned, "Potions are very important in a wizard's life; almost every profession requires a potion that scores above E."
Potions N.E.W.T. certificates. These include the most popular Aurors, St. Mungo's healers, and most positions within the Ministry of Magic.
"Wait a minute—" Harry paused, "Why do you need a Potions certificate to become an Auror?"
"Because a standard broad-spectrum antidote can save your life in a critical moment," Hermione said from the side. "And when you're hunting dark wizards, you're unlikely to come across a potion shop all the time."
Harry opened his mouth; he had to admit Hermione was right.
"Well, maybe I could choose to be a professional Quidditch player," Harry shrugged. "I mean, I'm pretty good at flying."
He seemed determined to stop attending Snape's Potions class, but considering he had been targeted by Snape for five years, this decision wasn't hard to understand.
Instead of going back to the common room to put their bags away, the group went straight to the auditorium for lunch after leaving the underground classroom.
In the auditorium, many fifth-grade students were already discussing career guidance; their names were at the top of the list, and they had spoken with Professor McGonagall that morning.
But for most students, this was the first time they had faced such an important choice, and Professor McGonagall's few words were clearly not enough to get them to make a decision immediately.
Neville was torn between becoming a healer at St. Mungo's or listening to his grandmother and becoming an Auror. That is, until Seamus told him that with his grades, he wouldn't be able to obtain the N.E.W.T. certification required for either profession.
In this atmosphere, Harry suddenly became nervous.
When the divination get out of class ended in the afternoon, it was the time he was supposed to go see Professor McGonagall for career guidance, so Celen and Ron went to the divination classroom.
It is worth mentioning that before Hagrid returned, Professor Sybil Trelawney of the Divination class was another key target of Umbridge's observation.
During a lecture, Professor Trelawney bluntly pointed out that Umbridge had no clairvoyance and no talent for prophecy.
This has fueled Umbridge's resentment, and she has been causing trouble for her recently.
But for most students, this is not something to worry about.
After all, Trelawney scared students with death prophecies every year, and her image wasn't much better than Umbridge's. The older students all regarded her as a con artist who freeloaded at Hogwarts, just like Gilderoy Lockhart before her.
The only difference between her and Lockhart is that she hasn't been exposed yet.
A small minority even thought it would be good if Umbridge fired Trelawney, so that the school could replace her with a more competent new professor.
Only a very small number of people know that Sybil Trelawney is actually a prophet with a third eye, but her ability is rather special and beyond her control.
However, none of the others believed it, not even Hermione.
When I saw Professor Trelawney again, she was in very poor condition. Her eyes were sunken, she was walking unsteadily, and I could smell a strong odor of alcohol as she passed by.
Sylvanas could occasionally hear her muttering something under her breath—it seemed to be complaining about Umbridge's recent actions, and in her dazed state, she said that Umbridge would pay the price for it.
Xilun didn't know whether this could be considered a prophecy.
Professor Trelawney is a fraud when she's sober, but she seemed to be drunk just now—well, maybe.
Siren stopped looking at Professor Trelawney and instead looked at the crystal ball beside her.
He still quite liked the idea of going up and down the classroom, especially after seeing that prophecy about himself in the crystal ball last time.
Sirius was certain that it was the prophecy after he was taken away by the fake Sirius. The two figures at the beginning were him and Bella, and the one who used the Killing Curse on him from behind was Voldemort.
And that last beam of red light that filled the entire crystal ball was from Fawkes, who had Apparated Dumbledore—
Everything matches up.
However, after that incident, the crystal ball seemed to malfunction, and no images ever appeared again. Every time Xilun looked into it, all he saw was a swirling white mist.
Sometimes Xilun even wondered if this thing was disposable and if he needed to buy another one to see a new prophecy.
It's just that during Hogsmeade Week last time, Siron stayed in the castle and didn't go, otherwise he might have actually bought it.
Although such a crystal ball is quite expensive, costing at least fifty Galleons, the Galleons would be well worth it if it could reveal a prophecy relevant to oneself.
