Chapter 534 The Final Prophecy
While Voldemort was focused on dealing with the unicorn's soul, Siron dashed out of the woods without looking back, running towards the place where the Fiendfire was least visible. At the same time, he secretly vowed that if he could escape this time, he would find a way to Apparate no matter what.
But it's not easy.
Besides Voldemort and Fiendfyre, the Death Eaters, who could appear at any moment, were also an obstacle to him.
Two plumes of black smoke appeared on his escape route, one on the left and one on the right.
He collapsed to the ground, completely unconscious!
"Extremely painful!"
Siren had to transform back into his original form and point his wand at the Death Eater who was trying to use the Cruciatus Curse on him.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Silence fell again. Even though Xiren had only used one Killing Curse, the two Death Eaters fell to the ground at the same time.
Before Xilun could even react to what was happening, the familiar chill swept over him once more.
Voldemort finally realized that the unicorn's soul was just a spell, and that what he really needed to deal with was Siron.
So he caught up with them, waving his wand and filling the last gap around the swamp with Fiendfire. Countless giant fire serpents wriggled and surrounded Siron from all sides.
The air quickly became scorching hot, and even without contact with the flames, the leaves and branches on the ground were ignited, crackling and popping.
"I allow you to be proud, Siron Ollivander, because you have accomplished what many adult wizards cannot." Voldemort stood atop a Fiery Serpent, looking down at Siron.
"You struggled with the Dark Lord for ten minutes; this will be the most dazzling achievement of your life."
"My most dazzling achievement should be winning the Triwizard Tournament," Xiren said. He looked up, and the boiling Fiendfire dyed the sky a scorching red, as if everything corresponded to the prophesied scene—if only those Fiendfire serpents could raise a little higher and fill the only remaining gap in the middle.
"The Triwizard Tournament is nothing but a boring spectacle," Voldemort said softly. "I don't want to hear anything more from you, Ollivander. This game has wasted far too much time. You've annoyed me too many times, for far too long—Avada Kedavra!"
Xilun certainly wouldn't sit idly by and wait for his doom; even at this point, he wasn't entirely without a chance.
The Horcruxes just sealed away Voldemort's Killing Curse. If it were released, the aftershocks from the collision of the two powerful curses might blast a hole in the surrounding Fiendfire.
If he can seize the opportunity to escape, once the Fiendfyre has regrouped, even Voldemort will have a hard time catching up in a short period of time.
That was his only chance to escape.
However, just as the diary was opened, the last remaining gap in the sky was finally filled with red. But it wasn't the color of Fiery Blaze; it was a more dazzling golden-red.
A giant serpent of fire seemed to suddenly lose control, rushing forward to block Xilun's path, only to have its head instantly shattered by the spell.
"What?" Voldemort exclaimed, looking around, until he looked up and gasped sharply, "Dumbledore!"
Phoenix Fox descended from the sky and landed gracefully on Xilun's shoulder. It flapped its wings, and the surrounding flames were extinguished instantly, and the previous heat was swept away.
Dumbledore stood at the front, between Sirius and Voldemort.
"Impossible!" Voldemort's voice betrayed panic for the first time. "You should be in Finland right now, with those people from the International Wizarding Federation!"
"I was there three minutes ago," Dumbledore said calmly. "But Tom, why do you think I know nothing about your plans?"
"You couldn't possibly know!"
"Are you referring to the magical ritual left in Albania?" Dumbledore said. "Do you think killing all those snakes will cover up everything?"
"And that poor reporter, Rita Skeeter, I found her handbag in Little Hangleton, along with an unfinished report that mentioned your men seemed to be looking for a grave."
"Unfortunately, I didn't know what Rita Skeeter's words meant at the time. It wasn't until later that I accidentally heard about an ancient ritual from an old wizard: the flesh of a servant, the father's—"
"Shut up!" Voldemort seemed to want to stop Dumbledore from continuing. He roared and fired another Killing Curse at Dumbledore, but it missed and hit the ground next to him.
Dumbledore flicked his wand in retaliation, casually tossing Siren even further away, and continued, "From that moment on, I realized that you might really have returned, Tom."
Although they were talking, the spells never stopped, and each one was more powerful than the last; Xiren felt his hair standing on end.
Voldemort gradually lost his initial composure and had to conjure a shining silver shield out of thin air to help him resist Dumbledore's spell.
Xiren glanced at the Horcrux floating on his other shoulder and felt that he could be of help, such as returning Voldemort's Killing Curse when he retaliated.
But before Siren could do that, Voldemort was blasted into the ground by Dumbledore.
Taking advantage of this moment, Dumbledore appeared in front of Siren in a flash.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I thought his target was Harry, which caused some delay. I was terrified when I arrived—anyway, I'm glad I didn't arrive too late."
Siren gave a wry smile. Not only did Dumbledore not expect this, but he himself did not expect that just because he let the unicorn brush against Voldemort, Voldemort would hold a grudge for so long.
"But now is not the time for reminiscing. Molly and the others are going crazy with worry. You'd better hurry back," Dumbledore said.
Without him making any move, the leaves and mud on the ground suddenly came to life, forming a huge hand that slammed down on the ground.
Silen felt Fox's claws tighten on his left shoulder.
"Wait a minute—" he suddenly said, "Before I go back, could you please pass on a message to Voldemort for me?"
"Yes, but you'd better hurry, he'll be out soon," Dumbledore said.
"Bellatrix used to call me a bastard—I guess she was implying that I was some idiot who claimed to be a pureblood when my father was a Muggle—"
Before Xilun could finish speaking, Fox spread his wings and, together with him, transformed into a ball of flame and disappeared from the spot.
In the instant before disappearing, all Sirius saw was Dumbledore's increasingly astonished expression and his growing roar growing fainter.
