Chapter 51 Abyss Twin Tracker
Chapter 51 Abyss Twin Tracker
After the History and Art Club's welcome party, Maya said to everyone in a cheerful tone:
"Alright everyone! That concludes today's welcome party!" Maya's voice was cheerful as she addressed the gathered members. "I'm truly delighted to see so many new faces joining our exploration journey!"
clap clap-
A burst of applause and cheers erupted from the crowd, clearly demonstrating the positive energy that filled the community's inaugural meeting. All of this was thanks to Maya, who radiated energy like a brilliant sun.
Maya's leadership and charisma were evident in the members' reactions; her genuine excitement clearly infected everyone present.
“Thank you all for participating,” she continued with a grateful smile. “We are currently making plans for the future, but rest assured, we will organize some trips that will be helpful for historical research.”
An atmosphere of excitement filled the air, and as Maya finished speaking, I noticed that a friendly and harmonious atmosphere had formed among the members.
Differences in background, experience, and perspectives seem to be gradually fading, with shared curiosity and enthusiasm taking precedence.
"Does she know that most people here join this club just to get credits?" I wondered.
Although clubs are not mandatory, participation in club activities can improve your overall grade in college. This is similar to extra elective credits offered in university courses.
"Anyway, that concludes today's welcome party. We'll meet again next Saturday to discuss how art has evolved since magic entered our world." Maya's voice was full of anticipation, her eyes sparkling with excitement for the next gathering. Her words earned nods and smiles from the members, and another engaging discussion seemed to fill everyone with anticipation.
With her final announcement, the welcome party officially ended. The open space was quickly filled with footsteps and laughter as the members began to leave.
Some people started chatting enthusiastically, while others stayed to exchange contact information; a friendly atmosphere filled the air.
Most students came to the club with friends, so the conversations flowed naturally. Some freshmen even tried to get closer to Maya.
With furtive glances and slight smiles, they awkwardly tried to approach Maya.
“Hi, Senior Maya,” one of them said, sounding slightly nervous but trying to sound confident. “You’ve made this club more fun.”
His expression was clearly tense, and his cheeks were slightly flushed.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, finding it somewhat amusing. "Are they serious? They actually want to pursue her on the very first day?" Their audacity surprised and amused me at the same time.
Not only me, but everyone else also found it amusing, watching the scene with delighted expressions.
However, the boy nearly fainted from embarrassment before he could finish speaking. Seeing this, another boy interjected, his tone slightly smoother: "Yeah, we were also wondering if you'd be willing to explore our inner world?" His approach, though more composed, still revealed a hint of awkwardness.
"I can't take it anymore..." I frowned inwardly, feeling embarrassed by the scene before me. The other person's audacity and complete lack of self-awareness made it almost impossible for me to look at them directly. I had to look away, unable to bear this indirect embarrassment any longer.
Just then, Maya's friend Emilia intervened, walking forward with a slightly impatient expression. "Hey, you guys," she teased, her voice full of sarcasm, "maybe you should practice your pickup lines more, or maybe you should work on your overall image."
Startled by the unexpected interruption, the boys blinked in surprise, clearly speechless at Emilia's sharp comment. Their flattery deflated like a punctured balloon.
Emilia turned to me, her tone laced with mockery: "If you want to woo girls, you'd better at least look like our brooding handsome guy." Her words were playful and teasing, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"What is this woman doing all of a sudden?" I raised my eyebrows slightly, taken aback by her sudden mention of me, my expression somewhere between confusion and slight annoyance.
"Tsk."
“Ah, now he’s smacking his lips again. Our gloomy little prince,” Emilia said with a laugh, her gaze still fixed on me. She seemed to enjoy teasing me, which I found utterly unpleasant.
"Ahem..." I cleared my throat, trying to respond, but Emilia had already turned and left, leaving only the laughter of those around me after witnessing the conversation.
Maya handled the situation with her usual elegance. Ignoring Emilia's teasing and the boys' embarrassment, she took a bag of snacks from her belongings and handed it to them. "Here, have some snacks," she said with a smile, still radiating warmth, "Perhaps this will help you recover from your earlier mistake."
The boys accepted the snacks with grateful yet embarrassed expressions, their flushed cheeks eliciting even more laughter from those around them. Maya skillfully diffused the awkward situation with her charm, which was truly admirable.
"Indeed, she's a born leader," I thought to myself. This girl is always so smart and cheerful, but not everyone with these qualities can command the room like she does.
If it was unintentional on her part, then she's a natural social genius. If it was intentional, then she's a terrifying monster. That's all I can say.
After this little incident, the boys eventually left, looking somewhat disappointed. Maya then refocused her attention on the members, once again guiding the atmosphere with her warmth and enthusiasm, bringing the welcome party to a successful close.
I started packing my things, but just then, my gaze fell on the brown-haired youth who was walking toward Sylvie.
Boom!
My heart started racing again.
“He’s using magic.” I instinctively knew he was using demonic energy, albeit to a very small degree.
"He probably used that power as soon as he entered the rendezvous point." I surmise that the conditions that triggered my [Revenge Blade] are related to demonic energy. After all, I didn't feel any anger or heart palpitations during the orientation.
From a distance, I saw Mason Kent walk toward Sylvie. His presence exuded confidence and charm, effortlessly drawing attention. He held a seemingly insignificant object in his outstretched hand, and his tone of voice toward Sylvie carried a harmless facade, a facade that was difficult to see through.
“I’m sorry,” Mason said gently, his expression polite and slightly apologetic, “I think this might be what you dropped.” He handed the small item to Sylvie, his green eyes radiating a friendly warmth.
Sylvie blinked, looking somewhat surprised, her gaze shifting between the item and Mason. A mixture of gratitude and curiosity appeared on her face, a small smile playing on her lips as she accepted the item. It was a brief interaction, but something about it felt off.
Upon closer observation, I was more interested in Sylvie's change in attitude. The usual brightness in her eyes seemed to have dimmed slightly, and an uneasy shadow swept over her usually alert expression.
"As expected, it's because of his demonic energy," I concluded.
Mason's words seemed to have some effect, causing Sylvie to frown briefly and hesitate for a moment in response.
Because the normal reaction time when communicating with a stranger is about 1 to 3 seconds. In Sylvie's case, her average reaction time was 2.3 seconds.
But now, her reaction time has increased by a full second; it took her 3.4 seconds to respond.
Clearly, this guy's demonic energy clouded people's judgment.
"This also explains why Sylvie reacted so strangely to this. They seemed to have been prepared, even able to use these methods to mislead her," I thought to myself.
Their target is Sylvie. Therefore, it's quite obvious that they already know about her talent.
In the future, she will become key to identifying and combating demons, who pose a threat to them.
Although I'm not sure if she has awakened this talent yet, the demon is clearly being cautious about it.
Sylvie nodded slightly, a smile playing on her lips as she put the items into her pocket. "Thank you," she said politely, her gaze lingering on Mason. "By the way, I don't remember us meeting before. What's your name?"
Mason's smile remained friendly as he extended his hand to Sylvie. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. I'm Mason Kent, and I'm also a member of the History and Art Society. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sylvie."
When Sylvie shook his hand, I noticed a subtle change in Mason's expression. His words were polite, but the way he looked at Sylvie carried a different meaning.
He seemed to be using his magic to establish a fleeting connection, a subtle allure easily overlooked by those who didn't pay attention to the details.
Sylvie's smile remained impeccable as she replied, "It was a pleasure to meet you, Mason. Thank you again for returning this to me."
Mason's reply was as appropriate as ever, his tone gentle: "You're welcome. If you need help in the future, feel free to contact me anytime." After saying that, he nodded and turned to blend into the conversation around him.
Sylvie's attention returned to the club members, while I continued to observe from my position. This seemingly harmless interaction belied his true intentions.
The item he gave to Sylvie may seem insignificant, but it will change her life in the future, until she remembers it again.
The object is called the "Abyss Twin Tracker".
This is the item he gave to Sylvie. Its purpose is to locate her position and teleport her twin to that location.
An object that completely defies the laws of technology and originates directly from the realm of demons. This item will be discovered by players later in the semester, at which point Sylvie's important position will gradually become apparent.
But right now, no one but me knows it exists.
After Mason left, Sylvie sat there, seemingly deep in thought.
Suddenly, Sylvie's expression changed, as if a layer of confusion had enveloped her face. She blinked, her brow furrowing slightly, as if trying to recall something important. Her hand reached into her pocket, where the item Mason had given her lay.
"Hmm? What was I thinking just now?" Sylvie's voice held a hint of uncertainty as she looked around, appearing somewhat puzzled. It was as if a layer of mist had blurred her memory, erasing her thoughts from just moments before.
The item had already disintegrated and disappeared, so she couldn't find anything.
I observed from a distance without taking any action, knowing that intervention at this moment would only backfire. If I revealed my knowledge of the item's existence, the demons might send even stronger enemies to the academy, a risk I couldn't afford to take.
"I'm sorry to have put you in danger, but this was the best option." I thought to myself as I watched the girl leave.
I followed her away... The key plot point of the story is drawing ever closer, and I must be fully prepared.
"The first demon is about to appear."
