Chapter 139: Invitation
Chapter 139: Invitation
Song Miqiu did not stay in the palace for long and left quickly.
When she got home, she found another figure inside. Song Miqiu leaned over slightly and walked over. She pressed herself against the window, pried open the window crack with her fingers, and stuck her head in to look.
But he couldn't see anyone anywhere in his field of vision. Song Miqiu frowned and muttered, "Strange, could I have just imagined it?"
Just as she was about to get up, the window was suddenly flung open, and a man suddenly appeared in Song Miqiu's sight, startling her so much that she staggered back a few steps.
Song Miqiu breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the person in front of her clearly. She closed her eyes, patted her chest, and rolled her eyes at him. "When did Cousin Yan become so good at teasing people?"
If I had been distracted just now, I would have been terribly frightened.
Yan Yufan smiled faintly, his folding fan pressed against the window. Looking at Song Miqiu's magnanimity, he couldn't help but tease her, "When did my cousin become so timid? She wasn't like this when she was acting like a tyrant before."
Song Miqiu was too lazy to argue with the other party. Since the person in the house was Yan Yufan, she didn't need to continue to check carefully. She strode directly into the house.
She walked to the wooden table, poured herself a cup of tea, and sipped it gently.
Yan Yufan stood to the side, watching Song Miqiu go into the house to get water. None of the actions she took were directed at him. He was a little annoyed, so he took a step and walked over to Song Miqiu's side.
"Cousin, you see I don't even know how to treat a guest properly? Could you at least pour me a cup of tea?"
Song Miqiu paused, looking down at the teapot in front of her. "Cousin, you've been in my room for so long, haven't you even poured yourself a cup of tea?"
"I'm not waiting for you."
Upon hearing this, Song Miqiu frowned slightly. She rested her elbow on the wooden table and asked, "Cousin, did you come looking for me because of something?"
“Miqiu,” Yan Yufan said, her expression slightly hurt, “can’t your cousin even contact you if there’s nothing wrong?”
Song Miqiu was speechless and choked with emotion. She didn't want to argue with the other party too much, since it was ultimately her fault.
Seeing Song Miqiu's attitude towards him, Yan Yufan sadly lowered his head. He took out an invitation from his clothes, gently placed it on the wooden table in front of Song Miqiu, and explained softly.
"My father will be celebrating his 50th birthday in three days, and he specially asked me to come and deliver this invitation to you."
Song Miqiu's gaze lingered on the invitation for a moment before she looked away and immediately agreed to attend the 50th birthday celebration.
Since she couldn't find an opportunity within the palace, going to the Yan family to look for one was a good option.
"Understood. I will definitely bring the invitation to my father's 50th birthday celebration." Song Miqiu picked up the invitation, walked to the bookshelf, and stuffed it into a medical book that she often read.
After completing these actions, Song Miqiu turned her head and looked up, only to find that Yan Yufan was still standing in the same spot. She was stunned for a moment.
She assumed that Yan Yufan would leave after delivering the invitations, and given that he had startled her quietly earlier, Song Miqiu thought that Yan Yufan would definitely leave while she was delivering the invitations.
With a medical book in her hand, Song Miqiu walked back to her previous seat and sat down under Yan Yufan's gaze. She flipped through the book and looked at the contents.
There was always someone nearby, and although they didn't make a sound, Song Miqiu had a feeling that it was impossible for her to concentrate on reading.
As she read, Song Miqiu finally couldn't bear it any longer. She looked up, closed the book, and looked at Yan Yufan, asking in confusion, "Cousin, is there anything else you haven't said?"
Yan Yufan was staring intently at Song Miqiu when Song Miqiu suddenly turned her head and asked him a question, giving Yan Yufan no chance to react.
He exclaimed, a faint blush rising to his face, and lowered his head somewhat shyly. "I want to have a chat with my cousin. Come to think of it, it's been a long time since we've had a proper conversation."
"Cousin, look at what time it is now."
Yan Yufan chuckled awkwardly, then sat down on a wooden stool, placing his folding fan lightly on the wooden table before asking Song Miqiu, "Cousin heard you joined the Imperial Hospital, is that a habit?"
He thought of someone, and his brows furrowed. "I've heard that the head of the academy there isn't a good person. If you run into him, you should avoid him."
Song Miqiu choked, her eyes darting away slightly. She scratched her cheek with her fingers and just laughed a few times at Yan Yufan's words.
Seeing this, Yan Yufan subconsciously asked, "You didn't just start arguing with the other person, did you?"
She nodded silently, her small mouth slightly open, and muttered softly, "Not only are we at odds, but I'm also constantly picking fights with her. Now she probably dislikes me terribly..."
Song Miqiu's voice was extremely soft; unless you were very close to the other person, you couldn't hear what he was saying at all.
"what?"
Yan Yufan wanted to press for details, but Song Miqiu shook her head vigorously, "It's nothing, just normal mutual questioning."
Upon hearing this, Yan Yufan did not pursue the matter further. It was quite normal for people in the Imperial Hospital to question each other, since anyone could come up with a way to treat someone with an acute illness.
It would be normal for Song Miqiu and Lin Yecheng to have disagreements on this matter.
He didn't want to leave, so he kept finding various topics to talk about with Song Miqiu, jumping between topics so quickly that he didn't give Song Miqiu a chance to react.
This left Song Miqiu feeling quite helpless. She propped her head up with one hand and stared blankly at the wooden table.
Song Miqiu desperately needed someone to rescue her. She had originally planned to wash up and go to sleep as soon as she returned from the palace to ensure she was in good spirits for the next day.
As a result, Yan Yufan has been chatting with me ever since!
She sighed heavily, rubbing her temples with a look of utter despair.
When Yu Huailin returned, he heard two voices coming from inside the house. He frowned and recognized one of them as Song Miqiu, and the other as...
Although it felt familiar, he couldn't quite place it for the time being.
Yu Huailin pursed his lips, his gaze deep. He pushed open the door, startling the two people inside.
Song Miqiu was startled by the sudden sound of the door opening, her shoulders twitching. She opened her eyes wide, pouted, and exhaled, patting her chest to calm herself down. When she turned around, she saw Yu Huailin.
She hadn't expected so many people to suddenly make noise in quiet times to scare others. First Yan Yufan, then Yu Huailin, even in the Cold Palace she was startled by someone who suddenly appeared.
Seeing the two of them standing so close, Yu Huailin's face darkened even more. He strode over to Song Miqiu and sat down next to her, holding Song Miqiu's hand and speaking in a low voice.
Hearing Yu Huailin's words, Song Miqiu's eyes widened, and she looked at Yu Huailin in disbelief.
Song Miqiu never expected that Yu Huailin would speak to her in such a coquettish tone.
