Chapter 9 Entering School
Chapter 9 Entering School
After everyone changed into their school robes, they got off the train. There were quite a few wizards attending Hogwarts, and people were coming and going as they disembarked.
"You're all freshmen, so you're going a different way than us. Oliver and I will be waiting for you in the school auditorium. You should go over to Hagrid's side first; freshmen always follow him." After a discussion with Percy, they seemed to have gotten to know each other much better. He wasn't so aloof anymore and was talking more.
"Okay." With a loud shout from ahead, the three of us could only follow the flow of new students.
"New students, four people per boat, hurry up and follow."
Because I know the Geminis, we joined another person we didn't know on the same boat.
"Ayers, do you think there might be a big monster in this water? What if it comes out and eats us?"
"Yes, yes, will this little boat capsize if we ride in it?"
Don't expect Fred and George to say anything nice; I just hope they don't cause any trouble here. I don't want to fall into the lake with them.
"How about I lend you a hand, Fred and George, and let you go down and see if there are any big monsters?" He grabbed Fred with one hand and George with the other, his face full of smiles. Fred and George were stunned. What a monster! So incredibly monster! They didn't dare to move.
"No~" Fred and George really didn't dare to move and obediently sat down.
I feel that Geminis nowadays don't have the mean personalities I used to read about in books. They seem quite adorable, like a mischievous little brother next door.
Crossing the glass-like calm of the lake, passing through curtains made of ivy, we arrived at the underground dock covered with gravel.
Finally, they gathered in front of a huge oak door.
After the door opened, a witch dressed in a bright green robe stood solemnly in front of it.
"First-year student, Professor McGonagall."
“Thank you, Hagrid,” Professor McGonagall said, leading them to a small, empty room at the other end of the hall.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall, and then began to explain about the four houses and the sorting system.
After she finished speaking, she left, but returned a little while later and told them to line up in a single file and follow her.
They passed through a double door and entered the auditorium.
Hundreds of candles floated on the ceiling of the auditorium, illuminating it brightly.
The ceiling seemed like a miniature sky, and you could even see the twinkling stars in the dark night.
Students from other grades sat around four long tables, which were filled with gold platters and wine glasses.
There was another long table on the stage directly in front of the auditorium, which was the teachers' seat, with Dumbledore sitting in the very center.
Sitting in the far left corner, Severus kept staring at him. Feeling his gaze, Severus nodded slightly in his direction.
Following Professor McGonagall's instructions, the first-year students stood in a line with their backs to the professors, then placed a four-cornered stool in front of them, and finally put a top-pointed wizard's hat on the stool.
Then, the hat twisted, revealing a wide slit that looked like a mouth, and began to sing:
You might think I'm not pretty,
But never judge a book by its cover.
If you can find a hat smarter than mine,
I can eat myself.
You can make your top hats jet black and shiny.
Make your top hats smooth and crisp.
I'm the top hat used for the Hogwarts tests.
Nature is far superior to your hats.
Any thoughts hidden in your mind,
They couldn't escape the Demon Hat's sharp eyes.
Try it on and I'll tell you.
Which college should you be assigned to?
You may belong to Gryffindor.
There lies the courage buried deep in one's heart.
Their courage, spirit, and chivalry
This makes Gryffindor stand out;
You may belong to Hufflepuff.
The people there are honest and loyal.
Hufflepuff students are persevering and honest.
Undeterred by arduous labor;
If you are smart,
Perhaps the wise old Ravenclaw will be included.
Those wise and learned people,
They would always meet their kindred spirits there;
Maybe you'll go to Slytherin.
Perhaps you will make true friends here.
But those cunning and treacherous people will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
To achieve their goals.
Come on, put me on! Don't be afraid!
Don't panic!
In my hands (even though I don't even have one hand).
You are absolutely safe.
Because I am a thinking magic hat!
After Hat finished singing, the whole audience erupted in applause.
That Sorting Hat is filthy, and the song it sings is terrible—it's so disgusting!
Professor McGonagall, holding a long roll of parchment, took two steps forward and said, “When I call your name, you should put on the hat and walk to the correct house.”
"Aysholt" never expected that Professor McGonagall would call him first.
Smiling, she slowly walked to the four-cornered stool, sat down gracefully, and when the wizard's hat was lowered to cover her eyes, all that remained of her exquisite face was a bewitching smile. It was terrifying; every little wizard who saw that smile would have nightmares tonight.
"Hmm...hmm...it's a difficult choice. People with drive, curiosity, and innovation are usually very proactive, always pursuing their goals with enthusiasm and never giving up easily. They are full of curiosity, always eager for new things and knowledge, and enjoy exploring, discovering, and learning. At the same time, they also have strong innovative abilities, able to come up with new ideas and methods when solving problems, and constantly seeking innovative solutions. Such people usually achieve outstanding success in various fields and become trendsetters. Where should I sort you?" the Sorting Hat muttered to itself.
"Let me go to Slytherin; I have some plans to fulfill there." My personality isn't suited for Gryffindor.
Moreover, there are two difficult characters in Slytherin, and I was originally planning to go to Ravenclaw, where the library is very appealing.
But then I thought about how the Ravenclaw common room seemed like you could just walk in as long as you answered a question, and for a moment I felt that going to Slytherin could solve all my problems. Great, that's what I decided.
As if answering its own question, the Sorting Hat whispered, "Okay, I know where to sort you in, so..."
"Slytherin!" the hat shouted.
Dumbledore narrowed his eyes slightly. Severus was surprised; he never expected me to be placed in Slytherin. He thought I would be assigned to Ravenclaw.
Only one or two people at the Slytherin table clapped their hands perfunctorily, but I didn't care. I came to this house with a purpose, and I didn't care what these people thought.
She sat gracefully, far away from them, alone at an empty seat on the long table.
I smiled slightly at Principal Dumbledore from afar, and suddenly felt his gaze on me. I nodded slightly back, and he nodded back as well. Then we looked away.
Is it mind control or thought manipulation? Fortunately, it seems that the deeper aspects are blocked, and he can only see some of the surface.
It seems that ever since I came into contact with magic, anything that probes the depths of my brain has been unconsciously blocked. I've never learned any mind-closing techniques. Is this something that comes with the system? I don't understand, so I'll stop thinking about it.
"Gryffindor!" Seeing that the twins were still sorted into Gryffindor, I was relieved that they didn't seem to mind that I was in Slytherin, and even toasted me with their glasses.
But the other red-haired guy wasn't so friendly; he didn't even look in my direction.
Oliver Wood smiled and greeted me when he saw me looking over. I nodded slightly to him and then looked into the distance again.
Hmm~ Isn't that Cedric Diggory? He's so cute, so small. I only caught a glimpse of him at Madame Malkin's Robes Shop last time.
When the last student had been assigned to a house and taken his seat, Albus Dumbledore stood up.
He looked at the students with a beaming smile, opening his arms to them, as if nothing pleased him more than seeing his students gathered together.
“Welcome back to Hogwarts, children. Now, let’s eat,” Dumbledore said with a smile, then sat down again, and immediately a plate full of delicious food appeared on it.
Bread, steak, chicken leg, pumpkin juice, corn soup~
There are quite a lot of varieties, but none of them taste as good as Chinese cuisine. I'm starting to miss sweet and sour pork ribs and corn and carrot soup.
Suddenly, I seemed to have lost my appetite. I elegantly cut my veal steak with my knife and fork and took a sip of corn chowder.
I also learned knife and fork etiquette. In my past life, as a foodie, I not only cooked delicious food, but I also diligently learned dining etiquette. Different dining etiquette is a way of being polite to the food you cook.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, Dumbledore stood up again, and the Great Hall fell silent once more.
“I repeat, no student is allowed to enter that wooded area on the school grounds. Mr. Filch, the superintendent, asked me to remind everyone not to cast spells in the hallways during breaks. There is a curfew after 9 p.m., and students from all houses are not allowed to leave your lounge.”
"Now, before we go to bed, let's sing the school song together!" Many people's faces stiffened, and Dumbledore flicked his wand, and lines of text appeared in the air.
“Everyone chooses their own tune,” said Dumbledore. “Ready, sing!”
So everyone started singing:
Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts
Please teach us the knowledge.
Whether we are balding old people,
The child who fell and injured his knee
Our minds can accept
Some interesting things.
……
After singing the school song, the prefect led the first-year students back to the Slytherin common room.
There were very few students sorted into Slytherin this year, so I was able to have a private room.
The luggage had already been neatly placed in the closet, and the distinctive Slytherin insignia appeared on the robe.
Gently stroking this distinctive Slytherin symbol.
"Snakes? Isn't that interesting?" he muttered to himself, grabbing a change of clothes to take a shower. He sat on his desk in his pajamas, continuing to read the book he hadn't finished yet; it was still very early.
Place the moon-shaped ornament coiled around the cat's neck into the cat's bed, and then put some cat food in the cat's bowl.
I took out the coffee I always kept in my backpack; it was still hot. I gently clinked the cups together in the air.
At the same time, as if sensing something, Severus also touched his coffee cup in mid-air. Since Ayers moved into his house, he had gradually developed some habits, like that action he just did unconsciously.
At home, Ayers would drink a cup of coffee every night to stay awake.
Severus unconsciously had his house-elf prepare a cup of coffee today, which he drank while reading a book.
