Chapter 18 018 Master Hu Asks a Doctor
A carriage discreetly emerged from the alley behind the Marquis's residence and sped towards the most bustling West Market in the capital. A quarter of an hour later, it stopped in front of a medical clinic called "Hanging a Pot to Save the World".
The coachman placed the treadmill on the ground and respectfully said to the people inside the carriage, "Miss, we have arrived at the clinic."
The carriage curtain was lifted from the inside, and two women stepped out. The woman in front, dressed in green with her hair styled in double buns, was clearly a maid. The green-clad maid got out of the carriage first, then turned around to help the woman behind her, who wore a smoky-colored silk cloak.
The woman appeared to be quite young. Although she was wrapped up tightly in a cloak and her face was covered by a veil, making it impossible to see her features, her slender figure and the occasional glimpse of her delicate hands immediately revealed that she must be of noble birth.
As soon as they stepped off the carriage, the young apprentice at the clinic greeted them: "Ladies, are you here to get medicine or for a consultation?"
Ye Pianran said softly, "To see a doctor."
The young apprentice then asked, "Which doctor would you like to see, young lady?"
"The herb is green, the medicine is in the stone, the money is in the moss. I should go to Master Hu for a doctor." Ye Pianran said with her eyes lowered. This was a code. When Doctor Mo came to the Marquis's mansion to treat her injuries that day, he said that if she needed to find him in the future, she could come to the Jishi Medical Hall and recite this code to find him.
Upon hearing this, the young apprentice smiled knowingly and said, "Since you are Master Hu's patient, then come with me."
The young apprentice led Ye Pianran and Lingyi through several turns in the clinic before finally pushing open a small door and entering another mansion. After walking a while in the mansion, the apprentice stopped outside a house and said, "Please wait inside, Miss. Master Hu will be here shortly."
Ye Pianran nodded slightly. Lingyi gave the medicine boy a piece of silver and said with a smile, "Thank you for showing my young lady the way."
The young apprentice led them to a small pharmacy, which contained only a medicine cabinet and a tea table. Ye Pianran, however, did not mind at all and looked up with great interest at the medicine cabinet that occupied half of the ceiling.
“Eucommia ulmoides, white peony, musk…” She parted her lips slightly and read the words engraved on the grid, slightly surprised.
She never imagined there were so many medicines in the world, some of which she had never even heard of and had no idea what they were used for. It seems her knowledge of medicine is truly pitifully limited.
Ye Pianran gave a wry smile, somewhat doubting whether she could actually learn the medical skills.
Footsteps approached from behind, and Ye Pianran quickly composed herself and turned to look at the door. A moment later, Doctor Mo walked slowly toward her with Ling Shu.
Upon entering the room, Doctor Mo bowed to Ye Pianran and asked with a smile, "Miss Sun, why did you suddenly think of me? Is there some problem at the Marquis's residence again?"
Ye Pianran shook her head and said, "No, I came here today for my own private matters."
When Doctor Mo saw that Ye Pianran was still wearing a veil, he remembered that the Mid-Autumn Festival was not far away, so he asked, "Is your wound not yet healed?"
"Thank you for your concern, Doctor Mo. My injuries have fully healed." Ye Pianran shook her head, then suddenly took two steps back and bowed to Doctor Mo, saying, "I wish to learn medicine to heal the sick and save lives. I beg Doctor Mo to take me as your apprentice!"
"Miss Sun, please rise!" Startled by her grand gesture, Doctor Mo quickly helped her up. "Miss Sun, why have you suddenly decided to study medicine?"
"I accidentally discovered that my mother's illness was not due to physical weakness, but rather that someone had used despicable and dirty means to harm her! To prevent my mother from being harmed by villains again, after much thought, I realized that the only way out was for me to study medicine!"
The news was so shocking that Doctor Mo's expression instantly turned grave: "Someone is plotting to harm the young lady? What's going on!"
Knowing that he was very trustworthy, Ye Pianran recounted in detail how she discovered that Gongsun Yuan was not sick, but most likely poisoned. Finally, she took out the orchid-soothing incense and medicine residue that she had prepared beforehand.
"These are the two things that turned Mother into what she is now, Doctor Mo. Can you tell what's mixed in with them?"
Doctor Mo, with a somber expression, repeatedly examined the ingredients of the two items. He then lit some orchid-scented calming incense, inhaled its aroma, and finally let out a long sigh, saying with particular gravity:
"I'm sorry, but I can't tell what's mixed in these two things either. I'm afraid I can't help Miss Sun."
Although Ye Pianran had expected this answer, she still couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. She asked, "Then could you teach me medicine?"
Dr. Mo shook his head: "As a doctor, if you can't see that a patient has a problem or identify the ingredients in the medication that caused her abnormality, it means your medical skills are not good enough and you are not qualified to teach others."
"What should we do?" Ye Pianran asked anxiously. "I don't want my mother's life to be threatened anymore, Doctor Mo. I must study medicine!"
After pondering for a moment, Dr. Mo said, "Perhaps, there is someone who can help you."
