Chapter 235 -: 234 Fearless couple union.[4]
"Thuduk! Thuduk! Thuduk!"
The thunder of horse hooves echoed through the empty pathways of Timber Wood Village as the Fearless Couple Union rode through its streets.
The sun had already disappeared beyond the horizon, leaving only the dim glow of twilight behind.
Shadows stretched across the village like dark fingers, creeping between wooden houses and abandoned carts. Not a single villager could be seen outside.
The entire settlement felt unnaturally silent. It was the kind of silence that made even bandits uncomfortable.
Fortunately, the Fearless Couple Union possessed absolutely no sense of discomfort.
"Villagers! Come out!" Kavin shouted from the front of the group.
His voice rolled across the village like thunder, startling a flock of birds from a nearby rooftop.
Beside him, Jasmine rode silently with a sword resting across her lap. Her eyes swept across every corner of the village, observing the empty streets without a word.
Truthfully, this wasn’t unusual. The villagers were terrified of them.
Most likely they were hiding inside their homes, trembling beneath blankets while praying the bandits would leave quickly.
Usually, the villagers would gather all their food and supplies in front of the village chief’s house as an offering, hoping the bandits would simply take everything and go.
Unfortunately, bandits were called bandits for a reason.
"Bahahahaha!"
Several riders burst into laughter. The sound echoed through the empty village like a gathering of cartoon villains who had somehow escaped into reality.
One woman near the back rested her sword on her shoulder and sighed dramatically.
"I’m bored today." A dangerous grin spread across her face. "Let’s kill a few villagers." She casually licked her sword.
Her husband immediately nodded in agreement.
"Wonderful idea." Then he licked his sword too.
The couple exchanged a look of understanding before riding toward the nearest house.
Moments later, the sound of splintering wood echoed through the village as doors were kicked apart.
"Come out or we’ll burn your village!" The couple shouted enthusiastically.
To them, this was apparently a perfectly normal date activity.
Meanwhile, Kavin ignored the destruction around him and guided his horse toward the village chief’s house. Jasmine rode beside him while their son Jake followed closely behind.
Jake could barely suppress the smile stretching across his face. After all, from his perspective, tonight was turning out wonderfully.
A successful raid, celebration afterward, and a bride. What more could a young man ask for?
Jasmine noticed the ridiculous smile on her son’s face and felt amusement rise within her.
"We’re getting a new family member, huh?" she asked teasingly.
Jake immediately straightened in the saddle.
"M-Mother..." His ears were turning red.
Kavin laughed loudly. "Of course we’re getting one. But training her will be your responsibility."
Jake’s face became even redder. The image of Emily joining their family immediately appeared in his mind, causing his heart to race.
By the time the conversation ended, they had arrived before the village chief’s house.
Their horses slowed. Kavin’s grin gradually faded. There was something strange today.
The village chief was standing outside and Emily stood beside him. Yet there wasn’t a single sack of grain.
The empty yard stretched before them beneath the fading evening light.
Behind them, screams and crashes occasionally echoed from deeper within the village as the rest of the Fearless Couple Union enthusiastically expressed themselves through property damage.
Neither side paid much attention.
Kavin’s horse snorted loudly.
"Neigh!"
The sudden sound caused both the village chief and Emily to flinch.
"Hmph." Kavin looked down at them arrogantly. "So you’ve finally come to your senses."
His voice carried obvious mockery. "If you had agreed earlier, your son wouldn’t have needed to die."
The village chief’s hands trembled. The image of his son immediately resurfaced in his mind.
Seventeen years old, still smiling when he left home, believing he could protect his family. Then these monsters had taken everything away.
The grief had never faded. It simply sat within his chest every day, waiting. Beside him, Emily lowered her head as tears gathered within her eyes.
The memory hurt just as much.
"Where is the loot?" Jasmine suddenly asked. Her voice wasn’t loud. Yet it immediately drew everyone’s attention.
Neither the village chief nor Emily answered. The silence lingered.
Jake, meanwhile, had been staring at Emily almost the entire time.
He nudged his mother.
"Mom."
"Hm?"
"We can ask about the loot later."
His eyes never left Emily.
"Take her first."
Jasmine looked at her son and immediately smiled. The cold expression she had worn moments ago vanished completely.
"Of course."
To Jasmine, her son’s wishes ranked significantly above stolen grain. She stepped down from her horse and calmly began walking toward Emily.
The village chief instantly moved in front of his daughter. Despite knowing exactly who stood before him, he still stood there.
"You won’t get anything," he said through gritted teeth. "Except what you deserve."
Kavin blinked, then he chuckled. The sound slowly grew into laughter.
"Oh?"
He jumped down from his horse and landed heavily upon the ground. For the first time that evening, genuine killing intent appeared within his eyes.
"Interesting." He stepped closer. "Where did all this courage suddenly come from?"
The village chief didn’t move nor did he retreat. That alone annoyed the bandit leader.
Without warning, Kavin’s hand shot forward. His fingers wrapped around the old man’s throat.
The village chief was lifted from the ground as though he weighed nothing. Emily’s face immediately turned pale.
"Father!" Tears spilled down her cheeks.
"Please don’t hurt him!"
At the same time, the screams from the rest of the village abruptly stopped.
The sudden silence felt strange. Even Jasmine frowned slightly.
Kavin barely noticed. He assumed the others had finally run out of villagers to terrorize and would return soon.
His attention remained fixed on the old man. Then something caught his eye.
The village chief wasn’t afraid, even while hanging in the air and struggling to breathe, he was staring directly at Kavin.
Almost as though...he knew something.
Kavin’s smile slowly disappeared. "What do we deserve?" he asked coldly.
The village chief’s gaze remained unwavering.
Before he could answer, an unfamiliar female voice suddenly drifted through the evening air from somewhere behind them.
The voice carried a strange accent.
Awkward, it was very awkward, like a foreigner speaking their language. Yet beneath that awkwardness lurked something sharp enough to cut steel.
"To death, yo."
A brief pause followed. Then a man’s voice echoed from the same direction.
His accent sounded just as strange. "It’s ’to kill you,’ not ’to death,’ yo."
For the first time since entering the village, Kavin’s expression froze.
