Chapter 312 The Conflict Between Starlight and Queen Maeve

Queen Maeve was covered in blood, and many parts of her armor had been burned through by plasma weapons, revealing her dark gray skin underneath. Her breathing was heavy and rapid, each breath seeming to be an effort to exert all her strength. Fortunately, her superhuman physique was enough to allow her to escape that hellish place.

However, she still didn't understand why the Terminator weapons suddenly changed from kinetic weapons to plasma weapons, and why the Terminator models she had never seen before were covered with these high-tech items. The plasma weapons were no thicker than a finger, which showed that the technology was quite advanced.

If the US government could actually develop this type of weapon, they would have already started invading the world!

She looked back; Lyra, Jackson, and Aiden were no longer behind her. They had all died at that military base. Faced with plasma weapons, the flesh of ordinary mortals was utterly vulnerable. But Maeve couldn't cry; she couldn't cry anymore. Shortly after Judgment Day, she had cried all her tears.

When she finally reached the outer defense zone of the shelter under the scorching sun, the guards almost opened fire until someone recognized that the helmet seemed to be Queen Maeve's personal item.

"Open the door!" Queen Maeve growled. She had no time to talk to the guards anymore. The powerful threat from the Terminator could no longer be ignored. She had to immediately gather all the humans and superhumans in the sanctuary to face this crisis together.

The gate slowly rose, and Maeve and her kneeling companion rushed into the shelter. Just as she was about to say something, she found the shelter in chaos. The crowd was gathered around the room that had previously served as a solitary confinement hut but was now used to screen unfamiliar homeless people. Their noisy discussions rose and fell, and Maeve could vaguely hear comments such as "This guy is a Nazi" and "Nazis deserve to die."

A bad feeling crept into Queen Maeve's heart.

No, no, no, at least not at this time!

"What happened!" Maeve, her emotions churning, grabbed a passing warrior and asked in a low voice.

"Storm Woman is dead," the man said in a low voice, "during the time you were gone."

Queen Maeve stared blankly at the man for a long while before saying, "Alright, you can go now. I'll go take a look."

Pushing through the crowd, Queen Maeve saw a charred body. She could barely make out that it was a woman, but the body was covered in burn marks, making it impossible to identify her. However, her intuition and the people surrounding her and pointing at the corpse told her that it must be Storm.

"Where is the starlight?" Queen Maeve cried out. "Where is the starlight?"

Storm's death immediately made Queen Maeve suspect Starlight. Starlight was the only one in Sanctuary with the ability to kill Storm, and her ability to absorb electrical energy and release energy cannons from her palms could completely explain the wounds on Storm's body.

Some onlookers, eager for a good spectacle, loudly announced Queen Maeve's location of Starlight. Queen Maeve immediately rushed to Starlight's side. To her slight surprise, Starlight was in a room with a man, and they seemed to be getting along quite well.

"Did you kill Storm?" Maeve asked, staring intently at Starlight, her voice as cold as ice.

Rune was about to say something when Starlight spoke first. She stood up, faced Maeve, and nodded: "She's a Nazi, and she kills innocent people indiscriminately. Maeve, in the corners we can't see, she's killed countless people."

She deserves to die!

"Do you even know what you're doing?" Maeve's anger finally erupted at Starlight's words. Her heart pounded, blood rushed to her head, and her face flushed crimson. She grabbed Starlight by the collar and slammed her against the wall. "Storm is one of our strongest warriors, and the Terminators are gathering for an attack. And what about us?"

She yelled, "What the hell are we doing? We're killing each other in this shitty place!"

Faced with Queen Maeve, Starlight did not back down. Though his voice trembled, it still contained unwavering conviction: "She is a Nazi. She is unworthy to be our ally! She—"

Perhaps the news of the Terminator's impending attack drove Maeve to madness, or perhaps the deaths of her three close friends overwhelmed her with grief; whatever the reason, Maeve's emotions spiraled out of control, and she roared, "Of course I know she's a Nazi!"

After these words were spoken, the entire room fell silent instantly. Starlight stared blankly at Queen Maeve. The news was so shocking that Starlight was momentarily unable to think.

The Seven, a group that Vought has been promoting, is the object of worship for almost all Americans. Americans believe that if they encounter difficulties, the Seven will definitely help them. Queen Maeve, as the only woman in the Seven, is the idol of countless girls, and has even led to a significant number of homosexuals among American women.

Starlight also listened to Queen Maeve's story and watched her personal movies repeatedly. She felt that the best thing she had ever done in her life was to come to this desert and watch Queen Maeve's performance. Sometimes she would feel grateful to those robots. If it weren't for them, Starlight might never have had the opportunity to work with Queen Maeve in her life.

But what about now?

Queen Maeve doesn't seem to be the kind of hero Starlight imagined.

After a long pause, Starlight finally said, "...What?"

Queen Maeve realized she had misspoke. She released her grip on Starlight's collar, took a step back, and was filled with remorse.

"You knew all along, didn't you?" Starlight said in a very soft voice. Amid the whispers of people outside the door about Storm, ordinary people couldn't even hear Starlight's words, but Queen Maeve could, and so could Rune.

Queen Maeve clearly didn't want to hear it, and she didn't answer. But her previous self-destruction and her current silence were enough for Starlight to draw a conclusion.

The innocent little girl clenched her fist so tightly that her knuckles turned white from the force.

"You've always known," Starlight repeated, "but you did nothing, you did nothing, didn't you?"

You did absolutely nothing!

At first, her voice was relatively soft, but by the end, Starlight's voice had become extremely loud, containing an anger that anyone could hear.

"Things aren't that simple," Queen Maeve said in a low voice, knowing she was in the wrong, but was quickly interrupted by Starlight.

"No, it's that simple! She's a Nazi, a Nazi! And she's already killed an innocent person, and you—you've allowed her to continue like this until now?"

"Enough!" Queen Maeve sighed. "I know her past, I know the blood on her hands, but we need her. After Judgment Day, our enemy won't be the Nazis anymore, you know? We'll be facing a bunch of monsters with no moral compass, who don't eat, drink, get hungry, or get tired. Under the threat of those machine-headed beings, even the Nazis are someone we must win over!"

"So you choose to compromise? For the so-called 'big picture,' you sacrifice principles and justice. Is this what you call Queen Maeve?" Starlight was unyielding, and her words were quite hurtful.

Queen Maeve's fists clenched and unclenched repeatedly as she took deep breaths, but finally, she took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.

Now that Storm is dead, every argument about her is a waste of time. The most important thing right now is to discuss how the shelter should fight against those hundreds of Terminators.

So she said in a low, suppressed voice, "Listen, this is not the time for internal conflict, okay? The Terminators are gathering, their goal is to destroy the Sanctuary, and we've seen some robot models and powerful weapons we've never seen before. If we try to start a civil war now, we'll all die—"

Queen Maeve looked at Starlight with pleading eyes: "Don't let this news, obtained at the cost of three lives, go to waste, okay?"

Starlight's eyes widened: "Layla and the others..." Queen Maeve nodded wearily, and she was already at her limit. What she should do now was to get some sleep and have a big meal to recover her strength, instead of standing here arguing with Starlight.

"You owe me an explanation!" Starlight's eyes were filled with tears, and her voice was trembling with sobs as she left.

"I didn't see any women fighting," Rune thought helplessly to himself. He actually quite enjoyed watching women fight.
