Chapter 124 is not Doctor Fate, but Naboo.
"If I'm not mistaken," Rune said softly, looking at the powerful mage before him, "you're not Kent Nelson now, you're Naboo, aren't you?"
"How did you know?" the other person asked.
Rune smiled slightly, but there was a hint of mockery in his smile: "Because that noble ordinary person would never try to kill a girl simply because of bloodline."
However, Doctor Fate—no, he should now be called Naboo—remained haughty.
He said in a compassionate tone, "If you hand over that little girl, I will mercifully allow you to continue living in this world!"
"What if I say no?" A cane suddenly appeared in Rune's hand.
The next second, Naboo's golden mask suddenly emitted a dazzling white light, and two blue cracks appeared at the location of his pupils, as if a cosmic curtain had been torn open. Rotating Babylonian seal script appeared on the edge of his helmet, each cuneiform character roaring and materializing, rushing towards Rune, attempting to crush him.
Rune sneered, flicking his staff, and countless beasts burst forth from the ground. All corrupted by powerful magic, they charged towards the animated cuneiform runes. Simultaneously, Rune chanted a spell. The instant the runes left his lips, the entire sky's clouds froze, like a flock of sheep held captive by an invisible giant hand. A sickly coppery green tinge appeared at the edges of the clouds—a sign of atmospheric ionization under magical radiation.
He raised his left hand, and a torrential downpour began. But this was no ordinary rain; the raindrops transformed into tiny piranhas before even hitting the ground, then defied the laws of physics, swimming through the air towards Nabu. However, Nabu easily erected a shield of light. Although the piranhas easily breached the shield, the magical creations instantly reformed into water droplets the moment they passed through it.
Rune was very curious: was that light shield just ordinary defensive magic, or the legendary time magic?
But Nab didn't give Rune a chance to think. The next moment, a beam of light as thick as an adult's arm shot towards him, but Rune raised his staff and hit the beam of light like he was hitting a golf ball. Under the immense magical power transmitted by N-metal and Uru-metal, the thick beam of light exploded instantly, transforming into a circular wall of light.
"Damn it!" Constantine quickly grabbed the raven, dodging the scattered walls of light. As the light faded...
The ground and a dozen or so unfortunate trees had been cut open by this wall of light, the cut surfaces as smooth as mirrors.
"Let's get out of here right now. This isn't a fight we can get involved in," Constantine said.
Raven glanced at the terrifying monsters constantly emerging from around her and nodded. She also possessed some runic items that would allow her teacher to find her, so she immediately followed Constantine.
Soon, Constantine teleported her to a dimly lit library. Once in the familiar safe house, Constantine finally relaxed and slumped into an antique armchair, his leather shoes resting on a coffee table piled high with ancient books, completely ignoring the dust that had settled on the potentially priceless parchment scrolls.
"Who was that guy who fought my teacher?" Raven asked.
"So, the little bird has suddenly become interested in the golden old man?" Constantine exhaled a smoke ring and squinted at the raven standing in front of the bookshelf.
The raven's fingers gently traced the cover of a magic book with a gold embossed design: "His power—I can feel it."
His power is immense and unique—
Constantine chuckled, a cigarette ash falling onto his trench coat. "Special? The guy under that helmet is a poor wretch used as a taxi by the ancient gods."
He waved his cigarette exaggeratedly, gesturing wildly as he said, "Imagine a glittering gold trash can upside down on your head, then you're wearing an extravagant levitation cloak, and you're acting like a 'cosmic policeman'—congratulations, you probably look about 70% like Doctor Fate."
Raven's lips twitched slightly, the closest she could come to a smile. Because although this man was a nuisance, his description of Doctor Fate was remarkably accurate.
"But that helmet is the key. Inside lives an ancient being named Naboo, the Babylonian god of order. He chooses hosts—usually unlucky souls with an excessive sense of justice—and shares bodies with them, like a tenant and landlord, except the landlord is gradually replaced by the tenant."
Raven's eyes widened slightly, and her fingers unconsciously tightened around the edge of her T-shirt: "Like my relationship with my father?"
The library fell silent suddenly; even the crackling of the fireplace seemed to have stopped. Constantine's expression became complicated as he slowly stubbed out his cigarette in an empty coffee cup.
“No, little bird,” his voice softened unusually, “Naboo may be a stubborn old bastard, but he’s not Trigon. The God of Order doesn’t want to devour a host’s soul, but merely cover it up. It’s like covering an old wall with new paint; the essence remains the same, it just looks different.”
"But the result is the same, isn't it? Losing oneself," the raven asked.
Constantine smiled and said, "Don't worry, Rune won't just stand by and do nothing. With your teacher here..."
Unless the Demon King Sangu himself comes to this dimension, no one can do anything to you.
He stood up and laughed loudly, "But if he came to this dimension in person, why would the Three Palaces Demon need to possess you? That's a paradox."
After saying that, he turned his back to the girl and said, "Actually, Sangu Demon has always wanted to make a deal with me, and the deal is you."
A thick, suffocating dark magic seeped out, but Constantine pretended not to see it: "However, your good teacher gave me a reward in advance, asking me to look after you in a critical moment, so—well, you're in my safe house now."
The raven was silent for a moment, then the tentacle-shaped shadow returned to her feet: "So—how many of Doctor Fate's remaining members are Kent Nelson?"
"Hard to say." Constantine clearly didn't care much about the Fate Doctor. Although he had made a deal with that powerful mage, he even felt a little sorry for Kent. "It depends on what day of the week you're asking about. From Monday to Wednesday, he might still remember what his favorite breakfast is, but from Thursday to Sunday, he'll probably just be spouting quack 'order and justice' and other such charlatan lines."
He walked back to the armchair, lit another cigarette, and observed Raven's reaction through the smoke: "Let me guess, why are you so concerned about Doctor Fate? Are you looking for an ally to fight against the Trinity? If so, the Golden Helmet is indeed a good choice. Naboo's power comes from order, which perfectly counters your father's chaotic demonic energy—..."
Raven pondered, "Doctor Fate can see the timeline, right?"
“Oh, of course, sweetheart.” Constantine exhaled a string of smoke rings. “Doctor Fate sees all possible futures, he can—oh!” He stopped abruptly, narrowing his eyes. “Whatever you want Doctor Fate to do for you, we have to go—”
"You're not leaving!" The golden helmet Constantine had just mentioned stepped forward. "Hand her over to me, Constantine! As payment, I can help you reduce some of your debts—"
